Thiswouldinvolvetaskslikevacuuming,dusting,cleaningthetoilets/ basins,andgettinganyrubbishreadytoberemovedetc.

Helloeveryone, OneoftheinterestingthingsaboutbeingChairmanisthat youdon’tknowwhatthenextphonecallisgoingtobe about!Thiswasthecaseafewweeksago.Iwasoutat Dadsmidafternoonandthecallwasfromaladyfrom WaitunaWestSchool.TheywerehavingaGreatGadsby eveningthatnightattheschoolandwerewantingavintage cartoparkoutfront!!Icouldn’tmakeitbutAlistairHowardfromFeilding thankfullywasabletoflytheVCCflagwithhis28Essex.
Glyn’sSundayrunwaswellattendedwithfifteencarstakingagentledrivefrom FeildingtoValleyRoadthroughtoAshhurstandbacktotheClubroomsforacuppa andsomestayedonforBYOdinner.
ThemonthlyWorkingBeealsohadagreatturnoutwiththirteenhelpinghands makinglightworkofkeepingtheclubroomsingreatshape,whilethiswas happeningVernJensenandLenHaycock(Dad)playedinthedirtwithVern’sdigger toseeifthedrainsinthefieldwereblocked,fortunatelytheyweren’tbutthat doesn’tsolvethewinterswampproblem!Sotofinishofftheydugoutthethree treestumpsalongtheeasterndriveway.
TheAnnualNighttrialwasanadventure!!!Wellthat’snotquitewhatmywifewas thinkingasIinformedherthathersidecurtainwasathomeintheshedsothe picnicblanketwasgoingtodothejobofkeepingthetorrentialrainandwindoffher meanwhilethekidswerewrappedupnicelyinthebackseat!Nextyearitwillbe the50thrunningofthiseventsobeprepareforaepicevent!!Itstillfrustratesme thatourownmembersgetoutnumberedbyoutoftownentriesthatdriveforan houratleasttoattend.
ThenextbigeventforthebranchistheDaffodildayrunthatAnnetteFootis organising,thisisgoingtobeagoodeventfortheclubsprofileasAnnettehas sortedforustotakeoverManchesterSquareintheheartofFeilding.

HelloEveryone, Hopeyouhaveallhadagreatmonth!Winterisnowuponus (wellitcertainlyisatKimbolton!).Thefireseemstobegoing 24/7withthesecolddays.Ithascertainlybeenabusymonth forGlynandmyself.WehadatriptoTaurangatomeetour newidenticaltwingranddaughterswhichwaslovely,Nana Cathisnowincuddleoverloaduntilnexttime!Wedidhavea detour“EnRoute”forGlyntocollecthisretirementpresent tohimself-a1971restoredMGBGT.Iask,“howmanyvehiclesdoesoneman need?”butitalwaysseemstofallondeafears!Apparently,it’sasmanyascanfitin thesheds!“Toattractmyhusband,Inowwearaperfumecalled‘NewCarInterior.’” ManythankstothosememberswhocontactedmeabouttheLongServiceAwards. Yourassistancewasgreatlyappreciated,andInowhaveup-to-datelistsinplace.

IammarriedtoAnnettewhoisalsoonthecommittee.Between uswehave4children,4grandchildrenand1greatgrandchild.We havebeenlivinginFeildingforjustover2yearsafterhavinglived inAucklandfor19years.
WejoinedtheAucklandVCCabout16yearsago.13yearsagowe broughtouronlyclubeligiblecar,a1958Humber80,whichwestill useonclubruns.IamnowretiredbutpriortothatIworkedfor 47yearsforwhateventuallybecameDownerNZ.Istartedasa DraughtsmanfortheMinistryofWorksinPalmerstonNorthbutspentmostofmy workinglifesupportingaccountingsystems.

I'vebeeninvolvedwiththeVCCforthelast16yrs.Itall happenedwhenKenandIwenttospendaLabourWeekend withhisparents,(JohnandShirleyFoot).Wewentwiththem totheAucklandHunuaRally.Yes,wewerehooked!We movedfromFeildingtoAuckland21yearsagoforKen'swork. After19yrsandaCovidLockdownitwastimetomoveoutof AucklandandbacktoFeilding.KenandIhavejustcelebrated our26thWeddingAnniversary,wehave4children,4grandchildrenandjusthaveour 1stgreatgranddaughter.

WehadaSundayJaunt on11thJune(onlyour secondonethisyear).
CathandIgottothe Coachhouseat2.20pm andtherewerealready8 carswaiting.Weended upwith16startersforan hourorsorunout throughColyton,Valley RoadandAshhurstand ontotheClubRooms.
Somesatonthedeckfor afternoontea,gettingthe lastbitofwarmthfrom thesunbeforeretreatinginsideandtheheatpump.Afewstayedonfordinner anddrinksuntilabout8.30pm.Agoodafternoonandagreatturnout!
ThefollowingSaturday(17th)wasourNightTrial.Whatamiserable,wetnightit was.Titled“NightLights”itwassetsothatthelightsofthewindturbinescouldbe seen,“YeahRight!”Thankstothosethatturnedoutonsuchamiserablenight(I havetoadmititwashardtoleaveourlovelyfireathome).
Wehad14entries,4fromCHBBranchand2fromHorowhenua.TheRunwasover thePahiatuaTrack,aroundthroughBallance,overtheSaddleRoadandbacktothe ClubRoomsviaHiwinui,atanaveragespeedof32.5MPH.

Backinthe70’sLucasdecidedtodiversifyitsproductlineandbeganmanufacturingvacuum cleaners.Itwastheonlyproducttheyofferedwhichdidn’tsuck.

TheJ.I.CaseThreshingMachineCo,Racine,Wisc.
TheCaseCorporationwasamanufacturerofagriculturalmachineryand constructionequipment.Founded,in1842,byJeromeIncreaseCaseasthe J.I.CaseThreshingMachineCompany,itoperatedunderthatnameformostofa century.Foranother66yearsitwastheJ.I.CaseCompany,andwasoftencalled simplyCase.
TheCasewasaconventionalcarmadebyoneofAmerica'sbest-knownmakersof threshingmachines,steamtractionenginesandagriculturaltractors.Theircars weremainlysoldthroughthefarmequipmentdealers.
Atfirst4-cylindercarsonlywere made,the1914rangeconsisting ofa‘25’,a‘35’anda‘40’,buta Continentalenginedsixwas offeredfor1918.Thiswas availableinthreebodystyles,a touring,asedan,andasport whichwasaclose-coupledopen four-seater.Theenginewas ratedat29.4horsepower(3.9 litres),andthiswasgradually increasedto31.5horsepower(5.3 litres)by1923.
Thesesixcylinderengineswereallby Continental,andusuallyonlyonesizewas offeredeachyear,althoughinsomeyears (suchas1923)anoverlapbetween modelsmadetwosizesavailable. From1924asmallersixof4litreswas made,butindecreasingquantities,andin 1927carproductionceased. Thecompanyisstillactiveandwellknown inthefieldofagriculturaltractorsand otherfarmequipment.These,likethe cars,carrytheeagleemblemmodelledon ‘OldAbe’,thefamousmascotofthe8th WisconsinRegimentfrom1861to1881.

ULTRA RARE CLASSIC CARUPFOR AUCTION
Arare70-year-olddeluxe'shootingbrake'car emergedforsaleearlierthisyearintheUKwith anestimatedvalueof£40,000.
The1953AllardP2Safariwassuchashort-lived car-only13weremade,andonlyfourorfive arethoughttostillexisttoday.
Theelongatedestatecaraccommodatessix peopleandhasspacefor45cubicfeetof luggage.Itwasahand-builtluxuryvehicledesignedforcarryingshootingparties,their riflesandanygame.
Thisparticularmodelunderwentanexhaustiverestorationinthe1980s.
Allardwasashort-livedcarmanufacturerfoundedin1945.Itbecameinsolventand ceasedtradingin1958,havingbuiltonly1,900vehicles.Post-SecondWorldWar,steel wasinshortsupply,buttherewasplentyofaluminiumsheetingfromdismantled aircraft.Out-of-workcarpenterswerenownolongerneededtobuildbombers,socar manufacturerswentbacktoconstructingtimber-framedrearsectionswithaluminium panels.
By1952,whentheP2Safariwascreated,Britainwasn'tsocash-strapped,anditshows inthecabinwithpolishedwoodfaciasanddoor caps,fullhideinteriorsandacresofspace. ItwasavailablewithachoiceofFord,Cadillacor ChryslerV8engines.
Thisparticular5.4-litreCadillac-poweredSafari wasdeliverednewinJanuary1953,butthefirst ownersoldthecarsixmonthslater.
The1953AllardP2Safarihadseverallong-term ownersbeforeitsrestorationinthe1980s.
Ithasformedpartofalargecollectionand,beingingenerallygoodcondition,has beenusedontheroad.
However,itwouldrequiresomefurtherworktoreturnittotheroadagain.
AspokesmanforSilverstoneAuctionssaid:"Thisrare,stylishandextremelyuseable classicwillallowyoutoarriveinstyle,whetherthatbetothelocalgardenfeteorthe GoodwoodRevival”.
Withinternalheating,astandardfixture,adjustablesteering,door-operatedinterior lightsandanautomaticreversinglight,theAllardwasaheadofitstimeinmanyways. Allofthismakesitquiteanimportantcarhistorically,representingamomentwhenthe blackcloudsofthewaryearswereblowingaway,thesunhadcomeout,andBritain waswakingup.
