DEAN’S REPORT DEVELOPING BUSINESS LEADERS FOR A BETTER WORLD

A LETTER FROM

If one thing stood out to me when I started at Villanova School of Business two years ago, it was the energy. Whether it’s the first day of classes or near the end of finals, there’s a constant undercurrent running through our classrooms, our offices and beyond—and it comes from an intense commitment to our mission and our values. Villanova School of Business is committed to developing leaders for a better world, and this year was no exception. We continued to excel as measured by rankings, faculty achievements, new enrollments and student outcomes—a direct result of our talented leadership, faculty and staff, along with a focus on planning, a commitment to creating growth opportunities, and strong connections with our community beyond campus. These accomplishments demonstrate why the VSB experience is like no other. I welcome you to read about our 2017-2018 accomplishments and I offer my sincere thanks for your enduring support so that we may continue to prepare business leaders who will drive positive change throughout the world.

PLANNING FOR

NEXT GEN VSB Dean Russell and her leadership team have engaged heavily in the University-wide strategic planning process that began last fall. Over the last year, they collected and shared feedback from faculty, staff, students, alumni and other stakeholders on the strengths and opportunities of the University and within VSB. This process will yield a set of aspirations and goals and establish a plan to foster growth and opportunities for the next five to 10 years. Look for the VSB strategic plan and operational goals to be finalized by Spring 2019.

NEW

ENERGY

For students and alumni alike, our teacher-scholars make the VSB experience exceptional. We take great care to find those who feel as passionately about teaching as they do about research. That’s why we welcomed the following faculty members to VSB in the 2017-18 academic year.

Dr. Li joins VSB as an assistant professor in the Economics department. She earned her BS in international economics and trade from Anhui University of Chinese Medicine, followed by an MA from Kent State University, an MS from Purdue University and then her PhD in economics from Purdue University. Her research interests include labor economics, economics of education, international economics and applied econometrics.

Formerly the president and CEO of the Catholic Leadership Institute, Manion returns to VSB as a professor of practice and the faculty director for the Center for Church Management. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business with a BS in economics, Manion received his MS in church management from VSB in 2011. While at the Catholic Leadership Institute, Manion envisioned and implemented the Disciple Maker Index, which reflects metrics on over 58,000 Catholics in 259 parishes and 17 dioceses in North America.
