A Message from our Director A big round of applause goes out to our volunteers and members on the Special Events Commission who have helped us bring fun and unique events to the residents of Romeoville (see pgs. 6-15 for events). I also wish to thank the residents of our great community who come out and participate in the numerous special events and programs that we offer. Our first annual Community Gardens Program was a success! The gardens, at Sunset Park (729 Murphy) were available as a cooperative program through the Lockport Township Park District and the Village of Romeoville. There were many types of vegetables and herbs grown for families to enjoy their bounty (see pg. 24 for information). There is a new bus in town! That’s right; we have a new Ride-Around-Town bus that was recently purchased to assist senior citizen residents with local transportation and for our fun trips that are offered each season. We hope you enjoy (see pg. 23 for information)! We are at it again! We have several renovation projects underway for some of our older parks and also have some new amenities coming your way: Discovery Park (300 S. Highpoint Drive) – This new 51-acre park is progressing nicely to bring you athletic fields, sand volleyball, three half-court basketball courts, and walking trails. Deer Crossing Park (1050 W. Romeo Road) – This established park site will soon offer a concession stand and restroom facility for various recreation events. Malibu Bay Park (1021 Princeton Avenue) – We are in the planning stages to provide a full renovation of this park-site. Joliet Junior College (1125 W. Romeo Road) – We are leasing space in order to provide additional open space. We have started the grading and seeding process and can’t wait for this to be completed! Please review our programs and events listed within this brochure. There is a variety of recreational options for residents to join the fun! Daddy Daughter Ball and Mom and Son Night Out are special for parents and their children. Enjoy spring with the Recreation Department at events like Pizza with Peter Rabbit, the Glow-in-the-Dark Egg Hunt, Springtide Craft Show, and the Memorial Day Fireworks. We hope to see you soon! Proof of identity/age and residency is required at the time of registration. Please provide one of the following: current utility bill (water bills are not accepted), current tax bill, vehicle registration, or home purchase/lease contract AND photo ID (state-issued ID or drivers license). Registration Frequently Asked Questions Payment of Fees Fees may be paid by cash, check, Visa, Discover, or MasterCard at the time of registration. All monies are immediately deposited.

Returned Checks If a check is returned unpaid, there is a $35 insufficient check fee in addition to the original amount of the check payable by cash or money order within 10 days. Failure to do so in the specified time will result in turning the check over to the police department for further action.

Program Cancellation If the program is canceled due to insufficient registration, a full refund will be made through the Village within fifteen (15) to thirty (30) working days.

Class Cancellation If a class is canceled during the program, participants will be notified of the make up date by phone, in writing through a hand-out at class, through the mail, or via e-mail.

Refund Policy Refunds are issued as follows - 100% before the start of week one; 75% before the start of week two; 50% before the start of week three; 25% before the start of week four; and NO REFUND after week four. Refunds will be issued in 30 to 60 days.

Age Criteria Policy Appropriate age levels have been established by our supervisors to ensure a rewarding experience for all children. Children must meet the age requirements of a class within two weeks after the starting date of the class (except Creative Play). Noncompliance with age requirements can result in removal from the program. The Recreation Department reserves the right to request a birth certificate if the age of the child is in question.

Program Enrollment Policy All programs have minimum and maximum enrollments. If the minimum enrollment has not been reached by the stated deadline, the Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel, postpone, or consolidate the program with another. If a program is canceled, full refunds will be issued.

Behavior Policy Participants are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. The following guidelines have been developed to help make the Recreation Department safe and enjoyable for all participants. Participants shall: 1) show respect to all participants and staff; 2) refrain from using foul language; 3) refrain from causing bodily harm to another participant or staff; 4) show respect for equipment, supplies and facilities.

Insurance The Romeoville Recreation Department carries no medical insurance and assumes no liability for personal injuries or loss of personal property while attending Recreation Department activities. A participant’s own policy must cover any medical costs incurred.

Toilet Training Policy Children enrolled in a program for ages 3 and older must be toilet trained unless it is a parent/toddler class. We stress the importance of children practicing their independence and we do not aid children in the bathroom. Our instructors are not responsible for diaper changing or toilet training. We reserve the right to deny participation by a child age 3 or older if they are not toilet trained.

We Love Parents But... With your child’s best interest in mind, parents are invited to their child’s last class meeting only. Our instructors always welcome the opportunity to discuss a participant’s progress with parents at any time. Thank you for your cooperation.

Inclusion Aides Northern Will County Special Recreation Association provides qualified staff to help assist the Romeoville Recreation Department’s community recreation leaders in providing recreational programs for children and adults with special needs in a safe environment. Inclusion aides assist participants with recreation activities and with any accommodations needed to make sure it is an optimal experience for participants. If your child needs assistance, please mention this on your registration form or upon registration. We do our best to provide inclusion aides for all requests; however, from time to time an aide may not be available because of the class time or day.

Resident Rate A Resident Rate Status is available for non residents who wish to register for classes at a resident rate. This can be purchased for $100 per household and will allow non residents to register for classes at the resident rate during the non-resident registration period (walk-in registration only). A Resident Rate Status is good for one year from the date of issue. These passes are eligible for all recreation classes; they do not apply to the Birthday Party Packages, Open Gym, Child Care, Fit 4 Life, or rentals.

ID Policy All registrants will be asked to show one form of photo identification to ensure residency and confirm information on file. Please be prepared to show identification at any time (state-issued ID or drivers license).

Program Scholarships Program scholarships are to assist families in need and are based on the availability of funds. These scholarships are only available to Romeoville residents who can provide proof of income or eligibility of need (i.e. free/reduced school lunch program, IL Dept. of Public Aid recipient, most recent W-2 for all members living in household). In addition, proof of Romeoville residency is also required. Applications can be picked up at the Recreation Center and must be submitted during the registration period with supporting documentation. Notification of scholarship approval will be provided after the registration period. Scholarships will not provide 100% of program fees, do not pay for program supplies, and Day Camp, Pre-School, and Before and After School childcare programs are excluded. Please contact the Recreation Center for more information at 815-886-6222.

The facility includes an indoor soccer field, 2 IHSA regulation basketball courts or 4 regulation volleyball courts, spectator area, and 5 multi-purpose rooms. Due to the high demand for the Athletic Center, the Village purchased 6 additional basketball courts to host larger, National Tournaments. These tournaments have brought events with 300 teams, thus needing 1,500 hotel rooms per day for a 3-day tournament. These tournaments have drawn visits from top ranked college coaches from Michigan State, University of Wisconsin, Purdue, Minnesota and Cornell to name a few. The Edward Hospital Athletic and Event Center continues to exceed expectations by drawing thousands to our area. Located along the Route 53 corridor, this complex has drawn regional attention with an estimated 400,000 visitors annually. In addition to athletics, the Center also accommodates outdoor festivals, shows, conferences, corporate events, parties, camps and clinics just to name a few.
