bensenville hello!

a lifelong learning community | sept/oct 2025

Dear Fenton School Community,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 School Year! We had a busy summer and are excited to have Bison Nation back in our classrooms, hallways, and bleachers. Please keep reading for important updates:

Back to School

Thank you to our Bison Link Crew for welcoming our freshmen into the Fenton Family. It’s hard to believe we now have the Class of 2029 in the building! Members of the Link Crew are upper class students that volunteer to mentor and be a resource for new students who are unfamiliar with all Fenton has to offer.

As we look ahead and plan our school year, we want to remind families in the Class of 2026 that Graduation will be Thursday, May 21, 2026. This continues our new norm of having the ceremony on a weekday, which might require different planning.

Construction Update

Our new STEM Wing was completed on-time and under budget. Students were in awe on their first day of school. Our teachers and staff were eager to start utilizing these 12 state of the art science and technology classrooms for exciting educational adventures.

A new Learning Staircase in the main atrium serves as both a stairwell and a place for independent study, similar to our ARC auditorium but much larger. The wall across from the Learning Stairs features a massive LED screen that transforms the area into another classroom or a venue for special events.

The Fenton Board of Education dedicated this new addition to the communities of Bensenville and Wood Dale for their continued belief in the possibilities education creates for our students.

Homecoming

One of our favorite times of the year is Homecoming – scheduled for September 8th through September 13th. This year’s Homecoming theme is Night Under the Stars, full of fun cosmic activities. Our Homecoming Football Game is at 7 p.m. on September 12th against Elmwood Park. We love our community and we love our alumni, so please stop in and support the Mighty Bison!

Superintendent Search

The Fenton Board of Education is working through a Superintendent Search Process to find our next educational leader, someone who will transition into the role on July 1, 2026 after I retire.

Our community plays a big role in this decision. A stakeholder survey is available on our website (fenton100.org). We encourage everyone to express their views and expectations. Please log on and complete a survey today.

Let’s Go BISON!

Join us in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with events and activities honoring the rich culture, history, and contributions of the Hispanic community.

BACK-TO-BACK FAST PITCH ALL STATE SELECTIONS

Congratulations to Elizabeth Izzy Delgado for being selected to the Illinois Softball Coaches Association All-State 3rd Team. This is her second straight year receiving this statewide honor! Izzy earned All-State honors in 2024 while filling in at catcher for a large portion of the season and in 2025 received All-State honors while playing her natural outfield position.

In her four years, Izzy now ranks top 4 among all Fenton softball players in the following categories:

• 3rd in runs with 160 • 2nd in doubles with 33 • 4th in RBI with 123

• 3rd in hits with 151 • 1st in triples with 21

Izzy and her family were congratulated by the Fenton Board of Education in July, at which point her #2 jersey was retired. Coach Dave Mello said Izzy did not miss a single game in her entire four years on the team – a level of commitment and durability that he’s never seen before.

In August, Izzy joined other Fenton graduates on the Triton College softball team.

Taking Action to Defeat Hunger

September is Hunger Action Month and food pantries across the United States are raising awareness about the many forms of food insecurity that quietly impact children, working adults, and senior citizens. Fenton High School continues to partner with the Bensenville-Wood Dale Food Pantry to address food insecurity by volunteering, fundraising, and bringing mobile food pantries to our campus. If you are able, please contact the Bensenville-Wood Dale Food Pantry and ask how you can volunteer or donate funds in our name. Let’s work together to defeat hunger!

Alumni Wall of Fame

Fenton is thrilled to continue adding to the Alumni Wall of Fame and the tradition of recognizing those who excel in their profession and/or go above and beyond to support Fenton High School. The goal is to celebrate homegrown success stories and show current students what is possible through hard work and dedication. Please scan the QR code to read more on our website about the criteria and nomination process.

The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet

OCTOBER 16/17 AT 7 PM | OCTOBER 18 AT 1 PM & 7 PM

Fenton High School’s Theater Department presents The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet for its annual Fall Play this October. The Seussificition of Romeo and Juliet is the exactly how it sounds – Romeo and Juliet as told by Dr. Seuss. The tragic love story is told with clever wordplay, rhymed couplets, and fantastic Dr. Seuss-style machines. Don’t forget about the colorful hair! The script is an adaptation created by Peter Bloedel. Senior Citizens are invited to a free seniors matinee show at 1 pm on October 18. Seniors can reserve a spot at the matinee by calling 630.860.8620. The senior matinee includes complementary coffee and cookies. As the show dates approach, please check the Fenton website (fenton100.org) for updates.

Fenton Open House

Fenton invites all its families to attend Open House – also known as Curriculum Night – on Thursday, September 18 from 6:15 to 9 pm.

Parents and guardians can experience a shortened day in the life of their students and meet the many amazing teachers at Fenton, while also learning more about school initiatives and programing from the administrative team.

Another opportunity to connect is Parent/Teacher Conferences, which are set for Tuesday, October 14 from 12:30 to 8 pm with virtual and in-person opportunities.

Fenton believes that school and home should collaborate as one. Open House and Parent/Teacher Conferences are great ways for families and teachers to establish joint goals and expectations early in the school year.

SCHOOL DISTRICT 2

FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Welcome Back to School – WE ARE ALL IN

Dear District 2 Community,

Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year! As your Superintendent, I am thrilled to say: We’re all in this together. As we launch this new academic journey spanning Preschool through 8th-grade under the powerful theme of ALL IN, I want you to know how committed we are to the success and wellbeing of all staff, students, and families.

We’re here to support you. Whether you’re stepping into a classroom for the very first time or returning for another exciting year, know that every member of our district—teachers, counselors, administrators, and support staff—is dedicated to creating a nurturing, safe, and joyful learning environment where your child can thrive.

We care about your success. From early literacy programs to hands-on science labs and collaborative classroom projects, our educators are fully invested in helping each student build confidence, grow academically, and prepare for the bright steps beyond 8th grade.

We value your ideas. Your voice matters, parents, educators, and students alike. We deeply believe in listening, learning, and acting on your feedback to shape our district’s path forward. Your perspectives drive innovation, build community, and ensure that our schools remain places where everyone belongs.

We’re excited for this year! This year’s ALL IN theme is more than just words, it’s a rallying cry for our community to lean in, support one another, and embrace every opportunity with full hearts and open minds.

I am filled with excitement, optimism and gratitude as we embark on this year together, and I can’t wait to witness the creativity, resilience, and discovery that lie ahead for our students. Here’s to a year where we give our all, for learning and growing together!

With warmest regards,

BENSENVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT

Welcome to BSD2!

New Face to Join BSD2

At its August 6 meeting, the BSD2 Board of Education approved the appointment of Shyla Kinhal as the District’s next Curriculum Director, effective August 18. Ms. Kinhal began her career as a bilingual elementary teacher in New York City and went on to coach district and school leaders through roles with Leading Educators and EL Education. Most recently, she served as Director of Literacy for District 65 in Evanston/Skokie, where she led the adoption of a new literacy curriculum that helped improve IAR literacy scores by over 20%. She holds degrees from the University of Michigan and Pace University, and lives in Oak Park with her husband and two daughters.

Developmental Screenings

District 2 is offering free development screenings

BSD2 offers free developmental screenings for children who are between 3-5 years old. The process takes about an hour and is available by appointment. During your child’s visit, trained professionals will assess key areas including gross and fine motor skills, pre-academic readiness, speech and language, as well as vision and hearing. These evaluations not only help determine eligibility for the District’s free preschool program, but also identify any areas where your child might benefit from extra support before kindergarten. If your child is already enrolled in the District’s preschool, this screening has already been taken care of.

Early developmental screenings are widely recommended by pediatric and educational experts because they allow for timely identification of potential delays. The American Academy of Pediatrics, the CDC, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) all stress the importance of these screenings to facilitate early intervention and improve long-term outcomes. Research shows that early intervention not only supports cognitive, social, and physical development—but also yields significant benefits in school readiness and overall success later in life.

Why These Screenings Matter

• They help determine if your child qualifies for the District’s free preschool program.

• Even if your child doesn’t qualify, the screening may reveal areas where they could benefit from additional support services before kindergarten.

• Note: If your child is already enrolled in the District’s preschool program, they have already received this screening at no cost.

2025–2026 Screening Dates

• September 18, 2025 • December 5, 2025 • May 29, 2026

• October 22, 2025 • February 19, 2026
