Dear Residents of North Palm Beach:

Hurricane season officially begins June 1, and while most storms develop later in the summer, they also can happen early, so it’s important to stay alert from the start.

The Village of North Palm Beach has a highly experienced team that begins storm preparations each year as the season approaches, and we ramp up efforts as soon as a storm shows signs of heading toward Florida. You can count on Village staff to stay ready—and we encourage every resident to follow our lead and do the same.

Now is a good time to review your emergency plan, stock up on supplies, and make sure your home is secure. Each year, the Governor sets a “Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday,” usually in the first couple weeks of the season. A firm date range for 2025 hasn’t been set as of the time of this newsletter printing, but keep an eye out, and check our June newsletter so you know when to shop for reduced prices on needed supplies.

Staying alert and prepared early in the season can make all the difference. Visit www.PrepareTheVillage.org for tips and resources to help you stay safe all season long.

Boat Ramp Reconstruction Project

Boat ramp re-construction will ensure long-term use of popular Village asset

Reconstruction of the Anchorage Park boat ramp has an anticipated completion date of May 30 (weather permitting). The ramp will remain closed throughout the construction process.

The old ramp experienced significant wear and tear, including a failure at the low end, making boat loading and unloading increasingly difficult.

This project is to install a reinforced replacement that meets modern standards and ensures a positive experience for boaters for years to come.

While temporary closure of the ramp during construction may pose an inconvenience, this project is needed to preserve this important Village resource.

Reconstruction of the Anchorage Park boat ramp began Monday, February 10 and has an anticipated completion date of May 30, 2025 (weather permitting).

The ramp will be closed to all users throughout the construction process

The current ramp has experienced significant wear and tear, including a failure at the low end, making boat loading and unloading increasingly difficult This project will install a modernized, reinforced replacement that meets today’s standards while ensuring a positive experience for boaters for years to come

Know a business that's doing something great?

The Village Business Advisory Board recognizes outstanding businesses that help make the community "The Best Place To Live Under The Sun."

Nominations are being accepted for "Business of the Season (Fall)," with the goal to encourage business success locally, whether for-profit or 501(c)(3).

Businesses selected for the award will get a certificate and sign to display, and will be mentioned in the Village newsletter and eNews.

To be eligible, the business must be in good standing with the Village, have a current Business Tax Receipt and no outstanding fees owed to the Village. Other rules also apply.

Anyone can submit an entry, so visit the Community Development Department page on the Village website and look for the "Business of the Season" link.

The website address is www.villageofnpb.org.

Village seasonal fertilizer ban begins June 1

The Village Environmental Committee reminds residents to be aware of the annual fertilizer ban that begins June 1 and runs through October 31.

During this time, using fertilizers that contain nitrogen or phosphorus is prohibited under Village Code Section 27-76, so if you plan to fertilize anytime in the coming months, please do it by June 1.

This Ordinance is designed to help prevent nutrient runoff that can lead to algae blooms and poor water quality.

Additionally, the Code prohibits the application of fertilizer within 10 feet of any body of water — year-round — to help protect the health of our local ecosystem, including ponds, canals an the

Intracoastal Waterway.

The Village Environmental Committee encourages residents to adopt eco-friendly yard care practices, like planting native species and using slow-release or organic fertilizers when allowed. Small changes in your lawn care can make a big impact on preserving the natural beauty of North Palm Beach, and in keeping our waterways clean.

Thank you for doing your part!

Ferlizers make things grow! And that’s a good thing if it’s your yard.

But when excess ferlizer is picked up by rainfall runoff, it is carried to our waterways, where it can cause many water quality problems (like algal blooms)!

Comply with North Palm Village Codes. Section 27-76 restricts the use of fertilizers containing nitrogen and/or phosphorus between June 1 and October 31, while Section 27-77 restricts applying fertilizer within 10 feet of a body of water.

Always sweep up ferlizer that has accidentally been applied to hard surfaces.

Don’t apply ferlizer when heavy rainfall is forecast (2” or more).

Save yourself me and money by converng your landscaping to nave South Florida plants that don’t require ferlizaon.

Residential bulk pickup is done by appointment only

All residential pickup of bulk items in the Village is done only by appointment, but you don't need to be there when our pickup crew arrives.

To schedule a bulk appointment, visit the Village website at www.villageofnpb.org, then click the link for "Trash & Bulk Pickup." Fill out the brief online form to schedule your appointment.

This applies only to bulk items, such as old furniture and appliances. Vegetative yard debris is not a bulk item and will be picked up whenever left in the swale by the property's occupant.

Vegetative debris left by for-hire landscaping crews must be removed by the company.

Debris cut by the resident or homeowner must be put in the swale, clear of powerlines, trees or other obstructions.

Parking vehicles on lawns and across sidewalks is prohibited by Village Code

Have you checked your home’s parking setup lately? Village Code Compliance Officers have seen a rise in vehicles parked on lawns, which is not allowed under Village Code of Ordinances, Section 45-27(G).

Lawn parking can damage landscaping and detract from neighborhood appearance, so the Code says all vehicles must be parked on a durable, approved surface such as concrete, pavers or asphalt.

To avoid citations, please review the code and make sure your property has the required durable parking space. Also, cars parked across the sidewalk become an obstruction or possibly a hazard. Check out Section 18-36 of the Code, which says "No person shall stop, park or leave standing a motor vehicle ... On a sidewalk or in such a manner that any part of the vehicle is protruding over a sidewalk."

Please be considerate of kids in strollers, people in wheelchairs, elderly walkers and others who need to stay out of the road, and please do not park across the sidewalk.

Questions? Call the Code team at (561) 841-3365 (Option 3) or visit Village website at www.villageofnpb. org. Search for the Code Compliance page and use the Code Zone map there to find your neighborhood Code Officer's contact info.
