The Westchester Police Department is investigating an Oct. 1 incident between an adult and a juvenile that witnesses say involved racial slurs and that police say could turn into a hate crime, pending further investigation. delinquent property tax sale on Nov. 5 — the first in more than two years. In a statement released Sept. 13, Pappas’s office said that “about $163.4 million in unpaid 2018 property taxes (that were to be paid in 2019) is due on 36,000 homes, businesses and land. Less than $1,000 is owed on 11,744 properties in Chicago and 7,700 properties in suburban Cook County.” That includes 479 properties in Proviso Township, which owe a total of $6.8 million in unpaid property taxes and late interest fees, according to a detailed list of properties with delinquent taxes for Tax Year 2018 (which are payable in 2019) available on the
treasurer’s website. There are 447 delinquent properties that owe a combined $6.3 million in unpaid taxes and late interest fees in the nine Proviso suburbs that constitute the Village Free Press readership area. Maywood has the most delinquent properties, with 230 that owe a total of $3.4 million, followed by Bellwood, which has 91 properties that owe around $1.4 million.
