Proviso Township leaders send aid to Ukraine

A contingent of elected officials, clergy and other community leaders in Proviso Township gathered inside of a warehouse in Broadview on Saturday morning in a gesture of solidarity and mutual aid for Ukraine. Russian President Vladmir Putin has waged an invasion of the Eastern European country since Feb. 24, in violation of international law. “We’re sending these eight tractor trailers to our friends in Ukraine to let them know that together we stand, but divided we fall,” said Rev. Back To Class For Proviso Students After Strike’s End By MICHAEL ROMAIN Editor

The roughly 4,200 students in Proviso Township High School District 209 returned to classes on Monday after being out since March 4 due to a historic 13-day teachers strike. On March 23, the Proviso Teachers Union (PTU) Local 571 and District 209 Superintendent James Henderson reached a tentative contract agreement that the

PTU’s roughly 280 members, who include teachers, social workers, librarians and school counselors, will vote to ratify the agreement on Tuesday, the superintendent said. According to a statement on March 27, Henderson said the tentative agreement “includes a raise as well as semi-annual bonuses for three years,” going back to 2021. prom and graduation have not changed. He said that 9th- through 11th-grade students will make up 10 school days. The final day of school for students is June 15. Summer school will be held in two sessions, with the first lasting from June 20 through July 8 and the second from July 11 through July 28. Summer school graduation is Aug. 4, he said.
