CLASSROOM CONDUCT

SUSPENSION

Suspensionistheremovalofastudentfromongoinginstruction.Theadministratormaysuspendastudentforupto 10days.Aconferencemustbeheldwiththeadministratorbeforeastudentmaybereadmittedtoschool.A suspensionbecomespartofastudent'sdisciplinefile.

Suspendedstudentsmaycompleteschoolassignmentswhileonsuspension.Theseassignmentsmustbeturnedinthe daythestudentreturnstoschool.

During suspension, students may not come to school nor attend or participate in any school-related activities.

BEHAVIOR PROBATION

Whennecessary,astudentmaybeplacedonbehaviorprobation ThiswillconsistofameetingwithAdministration, parentsandstudentresultinginabehaviorcontractthatdefinesexpectationsforthestudent Violationofthis contractmayresultinsuspensionorexpulsion

ATTENDANCE POLICIES

▪ Allschooldaysontheschoolcalendarareconsideredfullschooldaysunlessotherwisespecified All minimumdays,andactivitydaysareconsideredcompulsoryattendancedays

▪ Uponreturningfromanabsence,allstudentsmustcheckinattheelementaryofficewithawrittennote, signedbytheirparent,verifyingtheabsence.Theywillthenreceiveare-admitslipfortheirteacher.

▪ Tardystudentsmustbesignedinattheelementaryofficebytheirparentorguardian.Studentswill notbegivenatardyslipandreleasedtoclasswithoutaparentorguardiansigningthemin.

EARLY DEPARTURES AT A PARENT’S REQUEST

Earlydeparturesimpacttheclassroomlearningenvironmentandmustbelimitedtonecessaryappointmentsonly. If astudentneedstoleaveschoolearly,aparent,guardianoranyotheremergencycontactonyourlistMUSTsign themoutthroughtheelementaryofficeinordertobeexcused.Donotgodirectlytothestudent’sclassroom.Anolder siblingmaysignastudentoutIFtheyareontheemergencycontactlistortheparenthascalledtogivepermission. MultipleearlydeparturescouldresultinameetingwithAdministration.

WHEN A STUDENT BECOMES ILL AT SCHOOL

TheVillageChristianhealthofficeisopeneachschooldayfrom7:30to4:00 Thehealthofficestaff,orany designatedschoolpersonnel,areempoweredtorenderbasicfirstaidandemergencycare Aparent,orguardian,is contactediftheservicesofaphysicianappeartobenecessary

Incaseofaseriousemergency,schoolpersonnelwillcall911andeveryeffortwillbemadetocontactaparentor guardian Iftheycannotbereached,VillageChristianSchool(VCS)hastheauthoritytoarrangeforthestudentto receiveemergencymedicalcare,includingtransportationviaambulancetothehospitalifdeemednecessary

Ifastudentmustbesenthomeduetoillnessorinjury,aparentorguardianwillbenotified Studentswhovomit,or haveafeverof1004orhigher,arerequiredtobesenthome Studentssenttothehealthofficemayrestforupto15 minutes;afterthattime,theymustreturntoclassorgohome Studentsmustaskforapassfromateacher ortheschoolofficetogotothehealthoffice

RE-ADMISSION AFTER ABSENCE

Studentswhohavevomited,hadafever(1004degreesorhigher),orexhibitanyothersignsofillnessduringthe nightorinthemorningbeforeschoolshouldnotbebroughttoschool Studentsmustbefreeoffeverwithoutfever reducingmedicationsandfreeofsymptomsofillness24hourspriortore-admission

Studentsmustbere-admittedthroughtheHealthOfficeforthefollowing:injuriesinvolvingcrutchesorsutures; contagiousdiseases(chickenpox,measles,pinkeye,etc);PEexcuses

Communicableillness(strepthroat,chickenpox,pinkeye,mononucleosis,anyunusualrash,headlice,scabies,or otherillnesses)mustbereportedtotheHealthOfficeevenifthestudenthasbeentreatedandpresentsnosymptoms.

AllPEexcusesarewrittenbytheHealthOffice.Aparent’snotewillbeadequateforuptoONEday.Aphysician’s noteisrequiredifanexcuseisneededformorethanONEday.IfastudentiskeptoutofPE,theyalsomaynotplay atrecess,lunchorafterschool.

ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICATION

AllmedicationtobetakenduringtheschooldaymustbebroughttotheschoolHealthOffice.ALLover-the-counter medicines,aswellasprescriptionmedications,musthaveaphysician'swrittenorderaswellasaparent'swritten permissiontobetakenatschool.Medications,suchasAdvilandTylenol,orvitamins/supplementsarenottobe carriedbystudentsoncampusatanytime,unlesstheyhaveasignedstudentcontractformonfileinthehealthoffice, includingaphysician’sapproval.

Theschoolnurseoranotherdesignatedadultadministersmedications.Allmedicationsbroughttoschoolmustbein theoriginalcontainer(pharmacylabeled).Thefollowinginformationshouldbeonthemedicationcontainer: Student'sfullname,physician'snameandphonenumber,nameofmedication,dosage,schedule,anddateof expirationofprescription MedicationwillbekeptinalockedcabinetintheschoolHealthOffice

INTERIM REPORTS AND REPORT CARDS

Interimreportswillbeissuedatthemiddleofeachgradingperiodstartinginthe2ndquarter.Studentswhoarenot meetinggradelevelexpectationswillreceivethesereports.Firstquarterreportcardswillbegiventoparentsattheir conferencewiththeteacher.Therestoftheyear,reportcardswillbesenthomeinthestudent’sredfolder.

LATE WORK

Lateworkforexcusedabsenceswillbeacceptedwhenthestudentreturns,withnopenalty.

VillageChristianisfullyaccreditedbytheWesternAssociationofSchoolsandColleges(WASC).

•Accessisaprivilege,notaright.Accessentailsresponsibility,andinappropriateusemayresultincancellationof thoseprivileges

•VCSuseraccountsareownedbyVillageChristianSchool;consequently,theyaresubjecttotheOpenRecords Act.AlldigitalfilesassociatedwithuseraccountsmayberetrievedbyVCSstaffatanytimewithoutpriornotice andwithoutthepermissionofanyuser.VCSreservestherighttomonitorallaccountsinordertomaintainsystem integrityandtoensureresponsibleuse.

•Studentsshouldhavenoexpectationofpersonalprivacyinanymattersstoredin,created,received,orsent throughtheVCScomputernetwork.ThesearesubjecttoreviewbyVCSatanytime,withorwithoutnotice,with orwithoutcauseandwithoutthepermissionofanystudentorparent/guardian.

•Acontentfilteringsolutionisinplaceinordertopreventaccesstocertainsitesthatmaycontaininappropriate material,includingpornography,weapons,illegaldrugs,gambling,andanyothertopicsdeemedtobeof non-educationalvaluebyVCS.

•Internet-Onlytheinternetprovidedbytheschoolmaybeaccessedwhileoncampus.Personalinternet connectivedevicessuchasbutnotlimitedtocellphones/cellnetworkadaptersarenotpermittedtobeusedto accessoutsideinternetsourcesatanytime.

•Security and Damages-Responsibilitytokeepthedevicesecurerestswiththeindividualowner Village ChristianSchool,noritsstafforemployees,arenotliableforanydevicestolenordamagedoncampus Ifadevice isstolenordamaged,itwillbehandledthroughtheadministrativeofficesimilartootherpersonalartifactsthatare impactedinsimilarsituations Itisrecommendedthatskins(decals)andothercustomtouchesareusedto physicallyidentifyyourpersonaldevicefromothers.Additionally,protectivecasesfortechnologyareencouraged.

•Google Apps and Other Third Party Accounts-Inaccordancewithourschoolmission,goalsandourvisionfor technologyourstudentsmayrequireaccountsinthirdpartysystems.Manyoftheseaccountswillbeusedat schoolforschoolrelatedprojectsbutmayalsobeaccessedoutsideofschoolwiththeirparents’permission.The useoftheseaccountswillhelpourstudentstomastereffectiveandproperonlinecommunicationsasrequiredin TechnologyApplicationsStandards.

•Government Laws-TechnologyistobeutilizedinconformitywithlawsoftheUnitedStatesandtheStateof California.Violationsinclude,butarenotlimitedto,thefollowing:

o CriminalActs–Theseinclude,butarenotlimitedto:unauthorizedtampering,cyber-stalking,vandalism, harassingemail,childpornography,andcyber-bullying.

o LibelLaws-Youmaynotpubliclydefamepeoplethroughpublishedmaterial.

o CopyrightViolations-Copying,sellingordistributingcopyrightedmaterialwithouttheexpresswritten permissionoftheauthororpublisher(usersshouldassumethatallmaterialsavailableontheInternetareprotected bycopyright),and/orengaginginplagiarism.

ToenablefullaccesstothecurriculuminVillageChristianSchool’sstudent-centeredlearningenvironment,parents payayearlytechnologyfeetotheschoolwhichcoversaccesstothenecessarytechnologyandallrelatedsupport services.Aspartofthispackage,VillageChristianSchoolprovides4thand5thgradestudentswithaChromebook computerwithpre-loadedsoftwarefortheirusewhileattendingVillageChristianSchool.Thecomputerandall pre-loadedsoftwareremainVillageChristianSchool'spropertyandarenotbeingsold,rented,orleasedtothestudent and/orparent(s).VillageChristianSchoolretainstherighttorequireimmediatereturnofanycomputeratanytime foranyreason,aswellastherighttomodifyitssoftware.Bysigningthisform,studentandparent(s)acknowledge thefollowing:

1. Studentandparent(s)arefinanciallyresponsibleforalldamagestoorlossofthiscomputernotcoveredby theAccidentalDamageProtectionPolicy(seebelow).

2 Atitssolediscretion,theSchoolmayimposedisciplinarymeasurescommensuratetotheseverityofany intentionalorgrosslynegligentdamagetoormisuseofanycomputer,softwareand/orcommunication system.

3 VillageChristianSchoolprovideslimitedstoragespaceforstudents'schoolrelatedfilesontheGoogleand FACTSservers.Intheeventthatacomputerneedstobere-imagedorreplaced,alldataontheChromebook willbelost Itisthestudent'sresponsibilitytomaintainhis/herownbackupofanydatafilesonthe Chromebook StudentsshouldbackupanyandalllocalfilestotheirGoogleDrivedaily

4. Studentandparent(s)understandthatonlysoftwareauthorizedbytheSchoolmaybeinstalledorusedonthe computerandonlytheschoolmayinstallsoftware

5. Studentandparent(s)understandthatthesharingofanysoftwareinstalledonthecomputer,including eBooks,withanyotherpersonisagainstthelawandSchoolpolicy. Anyonewhoviolateslicenseagreements bydoingthiswillbesubjecttodisciplinaryaction

6. Studentandparent(s)areresponsibleforthepromptreturntotheSchoolofanycomputerandaccessories subjecttothisAgreementuponcompletionorcessationofthestudent'senrollment,oruponrequestbythe School Insituationswheretheequipmentisnotreturnedinatimelymanner,theSchoolreservesitsrightto useappropriatelegalmeanstoregaincustodyand/orcompensationforitsequipment,including,butnot limitedto,withholdinggradesand/ortranscripts

TheSchool'slimitedAccidentalDamageProtectionPolicy(ADP)providesthattheSchoolwillbearthecostof replacingtheChromebookforthe first incident inthefollowingsituations:

● Drops,liquidspills,electricalsurgesanddamagetotheChromebook(includingitsLCDscreen)thatoccurat home,atschool,andintransitbetweenthesetwolocations,aslongas,intheSchool'ssolediscretion,such damagewasdeterminedtobeaccidental.LimitationsoftheADPpolicyincludeaone-timereplacement imposedbytheschool

● Defectivecomponentsandaccessories.

● Theftoncampusorwhileparticipatinginschoolsupervisedoff-campusactivitiesaregenerallycoveredby theSchool,subjecttothepromptfilingofapolicereport.Factorswhichmaycausesuchaclaimtobedenied includeamongothers:1)negligenceinthatthecomputerwasleftinanunsecuredlocation;2)lackof cooperationwithpoliceandinsuranceinvestigators;3)incidentreportedmorethan48hoursafteralleged event;and4)reasonablesuspicionofcomplicityonthepartofstudentand/orparent(s).Ifaclaimisdeemed asnotcovered,thestudentandparentswillbeliableforreplacementoftheChromebook

● Allcomputersandtheirperipheralsarealsocoveredbylimitedmanufacturer'sguaranteeformanufacturing defectsonly

DamagethatisNOTcoveredbytheSchoolwillbethefinancialresponsibilityofthestudentandparents Village ChristianSchoolrecommendsthatfamiliesensurethattheirhomeowner'sorrenter'sinsurancepolicycovers computertheft Suchdamagesinclude,butarenotlimitedto,thefollowing:

● Peripheraldevicesorcomponentssuchascarryingcases,power/ACadapters,andothercomponentsnot internaltothecomputerdeviceareNOTcoveredundertheschool'sADP Apurchaseisrequiredintheevent oflossordamageofsuchdevices.

● Cosmeticdamage(scratches,wear,discoloration,minorgapsinplastics,etc)notaffectingfunctionalityare NOTcoveredundertheschool'sADP.

● Loss

● Theftfromanunsecuredlocationoncampus,unlessplacedthereatthedirectionofaschoolemployee(ie in anunattendedbackpackorunlockedcar).

● Theftfromlocationoff-campus(ie athome,car,mall,orfriend'shouse)

● Damageduetofire(otherthanatschool).

● ActsofGod

● Intentionalorgrosslynegligentdamageand/ormisuse.

● Useinunsuitableoperatingenvironment.

Incaseswheredamagesarethefinancialresponsibilityofthestudentand/orparent(s),thechargestobepaidarethe costofthereplacementChromebook.Theprocessofreplacementwillbehandledbytheschool.Current Chromebookreplacementcostis$300.00.

VillageChristianSchoolseekstoeducatestudentsinbothmindandcharacterandthereforeexpectsitsstudentsto demonstrateintegrityinallacademicendeavors VCSdefinesacademicintegrityaseachstudentdoinghisorher ownwork,exceptininstanceswheregroupsofstudentsarepermittedbytheteachertoworktogethertoproduceone product Ifastudentusesthephrases,sentences,structures,orideasofanotherinanindividualassignment,suchasa researchpaper,thenthestudentmustgiveduecredittotheirsources Whenteachersrequireindividualworktobe submittedbutallowcollaborationincompletingthatwork,studentsmaydiscussideasandconcepts,buttheactual workturnedinmustbethatoftheindividualstudent Additionally,thereisnodistinctionbetweengivingand receivingunauthorizedhelp;onewhohelpsanothertocheatisasguiltyasonewhobenefitsfromthecheating.All worksubmittedbystudentsshouldbeatruereflectionoftheireffortandability.

Examplesofunacceptablepracticeswhichconstituteacademicdishonestyinclude,butarenotlimitedto:

● Copyinganotherstudent’sworkwithorwithoutthatstudent’sknowledge;

● Usinganother’swordsorideaswithoutgivingduecredit(plagiarism);

● Violatingtestingproceduresasdefinedbyateacherinanindividualclassroom;

● Givingand/orreceivinganswerstoatestorquiz;

● Unauthorizeddistribution,copying,orrecordingoftestsorquizzes

Wearecommittedtoimprovingourrelationshipswithourparents/guardians WetrulybelieveittakesaVillageof caringadults,workingtogethertohelpourstudentsthrive

OurstatedmissionistoprovideaCAREing,Christ-Centerededucationproducingstudentswhothrive Webelieve thatapositive,integrated(orsynergistic)relationshipwithstudents,parents/guardians,andtheschoolisvital Asa memberoftheVillageChristianSchoolcommunity,weareaskingyoutoaffirmthatallmembersofthecommunity havevalueandthatyoupledgetotreatothermembersofthecommunitywithrespectandintegrity Thisexpectation appliestocommunicationswithteachers,coaches,administrators,fellowparents,andofcourseotherstudents. A failuretodosoweakenstheVillagecommunityandislikelytohavenegativeconsequences–andwillnotbe tolerated.

Specifically,weaskthatParentsandGuardianswill:

● ModelourCAREvaluesofrealrelationshipsthatincludecharacteristicssuchaslisteningtooneanother, puttingourselvesintheotherperson’sshoesbeforereacting,gatheringallthefactsbeforeacting,not gossipingorslanderingothers,andseekingreconciliation.

● Toresolveconflicts,whenappropriate,thestudentshouldmeetwiththepersondirectlyinvolvedfirst This allowsthestudenttobuildimportantlifeskillsinproblemsolvingandconflictresolution

● Ifaconflictcannotberesolvedbythestudent,thestudentshouldseekhelpfromanadultoncampus,eithera teacher,anaideoranadministrator

● Ifareasonableresolutionisstillnotreached,studentsorparentscanappealinwritingtothePrincipal outliningtheconflictandthedesiredresolutionaswellastheprocessfollowed(seeabove)

● RepresentourschoolanditsChristianmissionwellwhileoncampus,atschooleventsoffcampus,andin publicsocialmediaaccountsandcommunicationsasitrelatestotheschoolormembersoftheschool community

● Modelrespectfortheroleofaneducator,coach,andotheradultsintheVillagecommunitytoteachour studentsimportantlifeandcharacterlessonsaboutauthority,honor,andBiblicalteachingsonlove.

● Provideahomeenvironmentthatissupportiveofthestudent’sdevelopmentandachievementinour Christian,collegepreparatoryeducationalprogram.Thisincludesmakingsurestudentsareontimeand preparedforschoolandschoolactivities

● Likewise,parentsandguardianscanexpectrespectandthefollowingtreatmentfromtheschool:

o Returncommunicationfromawritten(preferablyemailed)requestwithintwo(2)businessdays.

o Everyeffortmadetolistenandrespondreasonablytorequestsorconflictsthatareinthebestinterest ofthestudentandtheschool’smissionandpolicies.

o Treatmentofthestudentandparentcharacterizedbyrespectandintegrityandhonorforthe parent-studentrelationship

Inpursuingasynergisticrelationship,positivecommunication,andhomeandschoolenvironmentsthatproduce studentswhothrive,itisrecognizedthatrepeatedandegregiousviolationsoftheaboveexpectationsaredetrimental totheVillagecommunity Theschoolreservestherighttoexpelastudentinsuchcasesatthesolediscretionofthe HeadofSchoolincoordinationwiththeBoardofDirectors
