Nelson Mandela By Fernando Romano

He born 18 July 1918 now he have 91 years old. Nelson Mandela spent 27 years as a political prisoner in South Africa before becoming the country's first black president. Mandela was a leading member of the African National Congress (ANC), which opposed South Africa's white minority government and its policy of racial separation, known as apartheid. The government outlawed the ANC in 1960. Mandela was captured and jailed in 1962, and in 1964 he was convicted of treason and sentenced to life in prison. He began serving the sentence as prisoner 46664 on Robben Island, near Cape Town, but instead of disappearing from view, Mandela became a prison-bound martyr and worldwide symbol of resistance to racism. South African President F.W. de Klerk finally lifted the ban on the ANC and released Mandela in 1990. Mandela used his stature to help dismantle apartheid and form a new multi-racial democracy, and he and de Klerk shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. Mandela was elected the country's president in 1994. He served until 1999, when he was succeeded by his deputy Thabo Mbeki. 4

Mandela's autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom, was published in 1994. Nelson Mandela is a hero because because he understands what it means to fight against enormous odds and Nelson Mandela is a hero because he showed that words are much more powerful than weapons. Nelson Mandela have a film: invictus based on events in South Africa before and during the 1995 Rugby World Cup, hosted in that country following the dismantling of apartheid. Directed by Clint Eastwood, the film stars Morgan Freeman as South African President Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as François Pienaar, the captain of the Springboks, the South African rugby union team. The story is based on the John Carlin book Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Changed a Nation

Nelson Mandela By Martin Repetto He was born on 18 July 1918 in the Eastern Cape (South Africa). He grew up into “the thumb” (tribe). He has got a Xhosa name, “Rolihala”, it means “trouble-maker”. He received his English name, Nelson, in his first school. In the 30’s, Mandela went to a university to do a bachelor degree but he was expelled in 1940 for lead a “student representative council” because he was indignated with the injustice in South Africa. It shows me that he was a hard working and a valiant person. When he went to Johannesburg, he created the “ANC Youth league”. It defended the rights of the black people. In 1952 he was arrested for first time. Ten years after, Mandela was arrested again and sentenced to five years in prison. I’m considered to Nelson Mandela a hero because he was an honest, generous and responsible person. Besides, he’s an optimistic person and he is very clever. I chose him because he’s a role model person.

Jesus By Sofia Urciuolo

I will talk about the biggest hero ever, Jesus. Some people disagree that he is the best, but in my opinion there will never exist a better hero than him. Although he couldn’t fly and had no mega strength, he save the whole world. That’s the mean reason why I've chosen him. He had a normal life, grew up as a normal boy and did things like any boy of his age. The difference is that he is the most honest, honorable, generous, solidary and good person. I think he is a hero because he is a role model for a lot of people, including me and he has moral excellence. Jesus was born in Belen, his parents, José and Maria traveled from Nazareth. Maria gave birth to Jesus in a stable. He died when he was about 33 years old; he sacrificed himself to save us. His whole life, he taught. people how to love God and how to love each other. He had many friends and followers and he gave them many amazing lessons. One day, he will come back and I he will save us one more time.

His birth defines a before and alter in the history: a.C. and b.C. with the year 0 (his birth) in the middle like a great and divine success. He had born in a stable in Bethlehem in what was the Roman Palestine. He was born to Mary and her husband Joseph, a carpenter from Nazareth. Christians relieve that he is the son of the high god. Jesus came to the world with a love message: “love to the others, if they love you or not”. He was killed by the Jewish because they thought he was a false prophet. But his message was transmitted and in time it was distributed to all the World through the disciples’ word and a wonderful creed emerge.

Benjamin Franklin By Federico Ferreiro

I consider that Benjamin Franklin is a hero because of all the things that he has done. Franklin was born in 1706 in Boston. He received a formal education, but mostly taught himself. After serving as an apprentice of his father when he was 10 or 12 years, went to work for his brother James, who was a typographer. In 1721, James founded the New England Courant, the fourth newspaper in the colonies. Benjamin secretly contributed fourteen essays to the newspaper, which constituted his first published writings. In 1723, Franklin moved to Philadelphia, where he found employment as a printer. He stayed there for two years and then went to England for two years. Back in Philadelphia he published The Pennsylvania Gazette (1730-1948). In 1730, he lived with Deborah Read Franklin, which he considers as his wife, which gave him a son and a daughter. He apparently had children with another woman outside marriage. For 1748, he had gained recognition for his philanthropy and for the encouragement he gave to civic causes as libraries, educational institutions and hospitals. Franklin served as secretary (1736-1751) and member (1751-1764) of the colonial legislature and as deputy postmaster of Philadelphia (17371753) and as deputy postmaster general of the colonies (1753-1774). Also, he represented Pennsylvania at the Albany Congress (1754).

13

During the years of 1757-1762 and 1764-1775, Franklin lived in England, originally as agent for Pennsylvania and later in Georgia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. Franklin returned to Philadelphia in May 1775 and immediately became a distinguished member of the Continental Congress. Thirteen months later, served on the committee that designed the Declaration of Independence. In 1785, Franklin was president of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania. In 1743 he was elected president of the American Philosophical Society. Since 1747 was mainly devoted to the study of electrical phenomena. Enunciated the principle of conservation of electricity. From his studies his scientific work became more prominent, experiments and observations on electricity. In 1752 in Philadelphia conducted his famous experiment with the kite. He tied a kite whit a metal skeleton of a silk thread, one end of which also had a metal key. Making flying a stormy day, confirmed that the key was charged whit electricity, demonstrating that the clouds are electrically charged and the rays are electric shock. Gandhi's principles Truth Gandhi dedicated his life to the wider purpose of discovering truth, or Satya. He tried to achieve this by learning from his own mistakes and conducting experiments on himself. He called his autobiography The Story of My Experiments with Truth. Gandhi stated that the most important battle to fight was overcoming his own demons, fears, and insecurities. Gandhi summarized his beliefs first when he said "God is Truth". He would later change this statement to "Truth is God". Thus, Satya (Truth) in Gandhi's philosophy is "God". Nonviolence Although Mahatma Gandhi was not the originator of the principle of non-violence, he was the first to apply it in the political field on a huge scale.[58] The concept of nonviolence (ahimsa) and nonresistance has a long history in Indian religious thought and has had many revivals in Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, Jewish and Christian contexts. Gandhi explains his philosophy and way of life in his autobiography The Story of My Experiments with Truth.

They had two daughters: Irene, who won a Nobel; and Eve, who wrote a biography of her mother. Marie was interested in the radiation which Becquerel had worked on. She named it “radioactive”. Then, in 1903, Marie and Pierre won a Nobel for discovering the new phenomenon of the radiation. After that, Marie continued working on radiation and she discovered two new elements what took her to win another Nobel in 1911. Marie Curie was the first woman in winning a Nobel and the only person who won two rewards of that feature. When Pierre died, Marie began to do his job, she thought in the University of Paris. In 1914, the Institute of Pasteur of Paris created the Institute of Radio and Marie directed it. In 1934, she died because of a disease by the radiation. I think she is a heroine because winning a Nobel helped women to develop their self over men. Beside, she was very self-confident and perseverance in the things she loved.

Alexander III of Macedon (356–323 BC) By Francisco Gajani

Alexander the Great of Macedon. He is the most celebrated member of the Aged Dynasty and created one of the largest empires in ancient history. Born in Pella in 356 BC, Alexander received the classical Greek education of his day under the tutorship of famed philosopher Aristotle, succeeded his father Philip II of Macedon to the throne in 336 BC after the King was assassinated, and died thirteen years later at the age of 32. Although both Alexander's reign and empire were short-lived, the cultural impact of his conquests lasted for centuries. Alexander was known to be undefeated in battle and is considered one of the most successful commanders of all time. He is one of the most famous figures of antiquity, and is remembered for his tactical ability, his conquests, and for spreading Greek culture into the East Alexander died in Babylon in 323 BC, before realizing a series of planned campaigns that would have begun with an invasion of Arabia. In the years following Alexander's death, a series of civil wars tore his empire apart, which resulted in the formation of a number of states ruled by Macedonian aristocracy Remarkable though his conquests were, Alexander's lasting legacy was not his reign, but the cultural diffusion his conquests engendered. Alexander's importation of Greek colonists and culture to the East resulted in a new Hellenistic culture, aspects of which were still evident in the traditions of the Byzantine Empire until the mid-15th century. Alexander became legendary as a classical hero in the mold of Achilles, and features prominently in the history and myth of Greek and non-Greek cultures. He became the measure against which generals, even to this day, compare themselves, and military academies throughout the world still teach his tactical exploits

Firemen By Rocio Ayala

I think firemen are heroes that not always are recognised. They are always protecting people that they don’t even know. They put their lives on danger for the good of others. Although they choose their profession knowing the risks, they are very brave and have a lot of courage. They help people even though they can die trying it. There work is really hard; they have to train every day, and give up a lot of thing, like family dinners, birthday’s and more. A fireman is a regular and ordinary person who chooses to do great things, heroic actions and honourable demonstrations. Men in general should have or be more like firemen; they should have moral values, good hearts, and solidarity for others and do things for strangers without expecting anything on exchange. Sometimes, we, ordinary people think that being a fireman is simple and not difficult job. But, its actually a physically and emotionally hard thing to do. So we should give more credit to the firemen and respect them more.

Mommy  by Laura Anders.

For this project, I’m choosing as my heroine, my mother, Marisa Tamburo. She’s an average woman, who has dedicated most of her life to her only child, me. I was born on 29 of October in 1993, and “quoting” my mom: “It was the best day of my life, even if didn’t look like it.” The qualities that make my mom a heroine, at least to me…are quite a few. She provides me with all her love and devotion; I know that I can count on her for anything I need. Because of her, I’m the kind of person that I’m. I know what’s right from wrong, I know why the trees change colours in the fall, I love others and myself, and I mean it in the good way (not as an egocentric person). From how to tie my shoes to what guy is right for me, my mom has always been there to support and protect me. Besides being the greatest mom ever, she is also a wonderful person. She has qualities that make her very versatile. For example: She is horribly creative, she can make a piece of art out of nothing. She’s incredibly smart, but I’ve never studied anything that had something to do with numbers with her, cause it would be a disaster (). For this and more, my heroine for now and for always will be my MOMMY.
