Peter Evagelos - Παναγιώτης Ευαγγελίου - 130 years

Panagiotis E. Evangeliou – Peter Evagelos 1891-1959 Dedicated to our grandfather whom we never met but whose presence is always close to us through the stories of our father.

His decision to sail to the Land of Liberty (United States of America) in 1910 by passing through the historical Ellis Island, his contribution to the First World War as a WWI veteran, his entrepreneurial activity in America and Greece as well as the family values that he passed on to his only son Evangelos, our father, fills us with pride.

The recognition from the British Commonwealth for the assistance he provided to the Allies (Entente Powers) from 1936 to 1945 and his contribution to the establishment of the Athens American Legion Post in Greece as a founding member and Vice Department Commander, sincerely move us.

This historical album was inspired and created by Vasiliki Evangeliou with the valuable contribution of his daughter in law Chrysa Evangeliou and his greatgranddaughter Aikaterini Stathaki.

130 years later the family history is being continued by Chrysa, Vasiliki, Nancy and Aikaterini!

To our beloved grandfather Panagiotis, our grandmother Vasiliki and our father Evangelos who look down on us from heaven…

1952: Eisenhower ran for president with the support of the Republicans and became the 34th President of the USA. 1956: Eisenhower was re-elected in 1956.

The rays of the sun form the background of our proud emblem and suggests the Legion's principles will dispel the darkness of violence and evil.

The Wreath

The wreath forms the center, in loving memory of those brave comrades who gave their lives in the service of the United States that liberty might endure.

The Star

The star, victory symbol of World War I, also symbolizes honor, glory and constancy. The letters "U.S." leave no doubt as to the brightest star in the Legion's star.

The Two Large Rings

The larger of two outer rings stands for the rehabilitation of our sick and disabled comrades.

The smaller inside ring denotes the welfare of America's children.

Two Small Rings

The smaller of two inner rings set upon the star represents service to our communities, states and the nation. The larger outer ring pledges loyalty to Americanism.
