Have you found yourself in a place like King David in Psalm 42:5 Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? In essence, David was having a matter of the heart that left him overwhelmed. More often than not, the answer is found in one word: DISCOURAGEMENT. Every human being will have periods of discouragement in their lifetime and that includes every creed and race. No one is exempted. For the most part, we see and hear of many who lost hope because of this deadly evil.
If we stay in the pool of discouragement, it can be harmful. Its sense of defeat and hopelessness can be destructive to every dimension of life.
The Bible is filled with great leaders who experienced discouragement.
For example: Moses got discouraged and asked God to take his life - Numbers 11. Job, in one day lost everything he owned and wished he had never been born - Job 10 -18 The Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 1:8 was overwhelmed by his trials in Asia and thought he would never live through it.
Is discouragement just about your mood? No, it is a state of mind that is destructive in nature, and it is one of the greatest tools the enemy uses to get into our hearts. When you are discouraged, your spirit is broken, and it seems like you are in a place of ashes.
Brene Brown states that Courage is a heart word, and the root of the word courage is cor which is the Latin word for heart. From the Hebrew perspective the meaning suggests courage to be steadfastly minded or to fortify your mental capacity.
Therefore, to climb out of the place of discouragement you must be infused with courage and your main source is wrapped up in the words of the Psalmist David “when my heart is overwhelmed lead me to the rock that is higher than I “Psalm 61:2 (NKJV)
