Welcome to Versailles from the versailles area chamber of commerce director
Dina Dunklee
Versailles Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director
Versailles is my hometown. I was born and raised here in Versailles. I am a 1995 Morgan County R-2 Graduate. My husband Dustin Dunklee and I moved away from Versailles to further our education but eventually came back to our hometown. We are both heavily involved in our community. We have two beautiful daughters, Ella and Ruby. I took on the position of Executive Director for the Versailles Area Chamber of Commerce in September 2019. I love collaborating with the community and working with other organizations. I have always believed that we are better working together.
I have attended the Olde Tyme Apple Festival for as long as I can remember. Every year, this event brings family and friends together. That is what makes this Festival so special. Being involved in the behind-the-scenes preparation for the Olde Tyme Apple Festival has been very eye-opening. I am now the Co-Chair to Brice Lake (Apple Festival Chairman). I had no idea what all took place putting this event together. Knowing all of this makes this event even more special. Working with the local entities is what makes this festival work.
I hope everyone comes out and enjoys themselves for the 2025 Olde Tyme Apple Festival. Make sure to take in the sights, smells,
and wonderful music. If you want a treat later that day, make sure you bid on an Apple Pie in our Apple Pie Contest. If you are staying in town for the evening, you need to get tickets for the Apple Festival Play put on by the Royal Theatre. If cars are your thing, make sure to head out to the Versailles City Park and see the Car Show put on by the Eldon Knights of Columbus, or on Saturday evening, make sure you attend the Apple Bash put on by the Lions Club of Versailles.
Big Wins, Bigger Dreams: A New Chapter for Our Hometown Festival
This year, we had the incredible honor of being named the winner of the Cenex Hometown Throwdown Competition—a title that not only brings pride to our community but also comes with a generous $100,000 prize. With this funding, we’re excited to bring meaningful improvements to our festival experience. One of our first initiatives is to support our local vendors by providing reliable Wi-Fi connectivity, making sales transactions smoother and more efficient for everyone. We’re also setting our sights on a long-overdue update to our festival stage, which has faithfully served our community for over 40 years.
Beyond these upgrades, the award gives us the ability to prepare for the future— helping us meet unexpected needs and continue growing our event year after year. Thanks to Cenex, we’re not just celebrating a win—we’re building a stronger, more connected future for our hometown.
Welcome from the versailles olde tyme apple festival™ chairman

I would like to welcome everyone to the 2025 Versailles Olde Tyme Apple Festival. We have had a busy year of planning for this year’s Apple Festival to make it bigger and better than 2024.
Every year, the Apple Festival continues to grow bigger and bigger, and it takes a large group of volunteers and organizations to make this event happen. We greatly appreciate your support. We are always making improvements every year to make the festival more accessible and fun for all of the festival-goers.
Make sure you take time to check out all of the activities we have going on over the weekend, as well as shopping at some of your favorite vendor’s booths for homemade crafts and your favorite festival foods. This weekend will be packed full of events for all ages.
If you’re able to make a weekend out of your trip to the Versailles Olde Tyme Apple
Festival, be sure to check out some of our locally-owned businesses and see what Versailles has to offer every day.
We look forward to seeing you on October 4th and 5th and continuing to make The Versailles Olde Tyme Apple Festival the best festival in the state.
At Cenex,® we’re proud to support the places we call home, and this competition was a celebration of everything that makes our local festivals and community traditions truly one-of-a-kind. Built on homegrown values and powered by locally owned and operated locations, Cenex goes beyond energy — we’re about connection, tradition, and bringing people together. Your support shows just how strong that community spirit is.
Thank you for being part of our story — and for making this hometown celebration one to remember.

2025 grand marshal
Becky Callaghan
The Versailles Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce Becky Callaghan as the Grand Marshal for the 2025 Olde Tyme Apple Festival.
A lifelong resident of Versailles and a 1978 graduate of Versailles High School, Becky has deep roots in the community. She and her late husband, Marty, shared 39 years together, raising six children on their 80-acre farm southeast of town. In the early years, they operated greenhouses and sold produce, while Marty also worked at the Gates Factory. That job led him to hauling expedited freight and eventually founding Callaghan Trucking and Warehouse.
Becky built her own career as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, serving the Gravois and Laurie areas until her retirement in 2017. Retirement has given her more time to enjoy her grandchildren’s school and sporting events and to devote herself to volunteering.
She is an active member of the Versailles Community Betterment Group, working to improve the lives of local citizens. Currently serving as chairman of the group’s commercial committee, Becky is passionate about fundraising and community projects. Her favorite initiative is “Community Partner Weeks,” held in conjunction with 3MT (Third Missouri Missions Team), which brings together dedicated adults and youth to
work on projects around town. Becky lives by two guiding mottos: “Bloom where you are planted” and “There’s always an opportunity somewhere.”
One such opportunity came last year during the Super Bowl, when a commercial for the Cenex Hometown Throwdown contest caught her attention. Scanning a QR code on the screen, she learned about a nationwide competition for the “Best Festival in the U.S.” and immediately thought of the Olde Tyme Apple Festival—already voted Missouri’s Best Festival. Becky quickly contacted Executive Director Dina Dunklee of the Versailles Area Chamber of Commerce to share the information.
With entries open from January 7 to February 7, 2025, the festival advanced to the top five in May. The community rallied together, working hard to gather votes. On June 17, the exciting news came: the Versailles Olde Tyme Apple Festival had won the title of Best Festival in the U.S.—along with the $100,000 grand prize to make the event even better.
Becky Callaghan’s dedication, leadership, and community pride make her the perfect choice for this year’s Grand Marshal. The Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to join in celebrating her at the 2025 Olde Tyme Apple Festival.

museum to offer historical tours
The Morgan County Historical Society and Museum is a time capsule that offers a captivating glimpse into the area’s past. From its humble beginnings to its present-day status as a treasure trove of local history, this museum stands as a testament to the community’s commitment to preserving its heritage and sharing it with generations to come.
During the Versailles Olde Tyme Apple Festival™, history enthusiasts and curious minds alike have a unique opportunity to step back in time at the Morgan County Museum. Conveniently located at 118 N. Monroe in Versailles, the museum opens its doors for tours from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The admission fee is $5.00 per adult, $3.00 for children 6 - 12 years, and children 5 years and under are granted free entry. This is a chance to explore a piece of Morgan County’s history while enjoying the festivities of the festival.
Housed within the walls of the former Martin Hotel, the Morgan County Museum itself is a historical artifact. The hotel was established in 1853 by Samuel and Elizabeth (Gray) Martin, making it one of the oldest structures in Morgan County. After Samuel’s passing in 1906, his widow Elizabeth and their daughters Lucy and Sally continued to run the business. Remarkably, Elizabeth “Grandma” Martin lived to the impressive age of 104, passing away in 1930.
In 1967, the Morgan County
Historical Society acquired the Martin Hotel, transforming it into the cherished museum it is today. The dedication to preserving history was recognized when the hotel was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The Martin Hotel’s historical significance extends beyond its years as a stagecoach stop on the Jefferson City-Springfield route, as it later served guests arriving by Rock Island and Missouri Pacific railroads.
Visitors to the museum are treated to a remarkable journey through 26 rooms filled with artifacts and exhibits spanning the 1800s and 1900s. The meticulously recreated rooms provide insight into early rural life, showcasing settings like beauty shops, doctor’s offices, and barbershops. The museum allows guests to step into the past, experiencing the ambiance and day-to-day life of a bygone era.
The stories of the Martin Hotel’s guests come alive through the historical artifacts on display. Hotel rates from yesteryears are astonishingly low, with guests paying $1.00 per day, including 25 cents for a bed, 25 cents per meal, and a 25-cent weekly bath. The parlor boasts a square piano that was once demonstrated at the 1904 World’s Fair, while the hotel lobby still houses the Seth Thomas clock wound by “Grandma Martin” herself.
The museum expands beyond the hotel’s confines, housing a genealogy room brimming with documents that unveil Morgan County’s history. Census records, obituaries, school records, cemetery information, and pioneer certificates provide invaluable resources for researchers and history enthusiasts. Visitors can also explore the museum store, offering a diverse array of items for sale, from homemade children’s and doll quilts to antique china, children’s toys, and books.
More than just a repository of artifacts, the Morgan County Historical Society and Museum serves as a guardian of the region’s legacy. The society’s commitment to preserving the hotel and county history is evident, and it operates as a non-profit, taxexempt organization. For those who wish to
learn more or plan a visit, the museum can be reached at 573-378-5530.
As the Morgan County Historical Society and Museum continues to bridge the gap between the past and the present, it remains an invaluable resource for fostering a deeper connection to the heritage that shapes the community. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a curious traveler, or a local resident, the museum promises an enriching and enlightening experience that transcends time.

Out On A Limb On the Main Stage
Saturday 1 - 4 PM
Eight years ago, four church ladies from Eldon decided to go “out on a limb” and learn the bluegrass tunes they loved. Cathy Kliethermes picked up the fiddle, Galen Maples the strumstick, Lisa Kemna the mandolin, and Angie Fishburn added harmonica and lively tap steps. Their sound came together with Frank Procter on upright bass, whose steady rhythm anchors the group’s fun, faith-filled style. In 2023, Chelsea Cotten joined, bringing crystal-clear vocals and old-soul depth.
Out on a Limb plays a lively mix of bluegrass, gospel, coal mining ballads, and harmonyrich classics. Their mission is simple: to share toe-tapping fun, fellowship, and a love of oldfashioned bluegrass and gospel music wherever they play.

Versailles Royal Theatre to Debut The SpongeBob Musical During Annual Apple Festival
This fall, the heart of Missouri will be buzzing with excitement as the beloved Apple Festival returns to Versailles—and with it, the Royal Theatre brings an extra splash of color and creativity to the weekend with the opening of The SpongeBob Musical.
For generations, the Royal Theatre has been a cornerstone of the Versailles arts scene, offering performances that entertain, inspire, and bring the community together. This year’s Apple Festival will be no exception, as local talent
takes the stage to bring Bikini Bottom to life in a production full of laughter, heart, and high-energy music.
A Festival of Arts, Apples, and Optimism
The Apple Festival is one of Versailles’ most cherished traditions, drawing families, visitors, and vendors from across the region to celebrate small-town spirit with artisan booths, live music, delicious food, and community fun. Adding to the weekend’s festivities, the Royal Theatre’s opening of The SpongeBob Musical is expected to be a major highlight.
This delightfully offbeat and uplifting musical tells
the story of the citizens of Bikini Bottom as they face an impending disaster: a nearby volcano is about to erupt. With their future in jeopardy, SpongeBob and his friends band together to save their home. Through courage, friendship, and an unshakable belief in doing what’s right, they discover that even the smallest hero can make the biggest difference. It’s a story with a powerful message: the power of optimism really can save the world.
Local Talent, Big Impact
Months of rehearsals, set construction, and artistic planning have gone into bringing this larger-than-life show to the Royal Theatre’s stage. Directed and performed by a passionate team of local actors, musicians, and crew members, the production promises dazzling costumes, toe-tapping music, and moments that will have audiences cheering.
The theatre’s creative team has once again blended Broadway-inspired quality with smalltown authenticity, delivering a show that’s both visually spectacular and emotionally resonant. Whether you’re a fan of musical theatre, a lifelong SpongeBob lover, or simply looking for a fun family outing, this performance is one you won’t want to miss.
Celebrate the Season with Theatre and Tradition
With its joyful message, community-driven cast, and the festive energy of the Apple Festival all around, The SpongeBob Musical is the perfect centerpiece to a weekend celebrating Versailles’ creativity, culture, and community pride.
Make plans now to experience the magic. Attend the Apple Festival, support local artists, and enjoy a performance that’s sure to make waves.
