Welcome to Versailles from the versailles area chamber of commerce

director

Dina Dunklee

Versailles Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director

Versailles is my hometown. I was born and raised here in Versailles. I am a 1995 Morgan County R-2 Graduate. My husband Dustin Dunklee and I moved away from Versailles to further our education but eventually came back to our hometown. We are both heavily involved in our community. We have two beautiful daughters, Ella and Ruby. I took on the position of Executive Director for the Versailles Area Chamber of Commerce in September 2019. I love collaborating with the community and working with other organizations. I have always believed that we are better working together.

I have attended the Olde Tyme Apple Festival for as long as I can remember. Every year, this event brings family and friends together. That is what makes this Festival so special. Being involved in the behind-the-scenes preparation for the Olde Tyme Apple Festival has been very eye-opening. I am now the CoChair to Brice Lake (Apple Festival Chairman). I had no idea what all took place putting this event together. Knowing all of this makes this event even more special. Working with the local

entities is what makes this festival work. I hope everyone comes out and enjoys themselves for the 2024 Olde Tyme Apple Festival. Make sure to take in the sights, smells, and wonderful music. If you want a treat later that day, make sure you bid on an Apple Pie in our Apple Pie Contest. If you are staying in town for the evening, you need to get tickets for the Apple Festival Play put on by the Royal Theatre. If cars are your thing, make sure to head out to the Versailles City Park and see the Car Show put on by the Eldon Knights of Columbus, or on Saturday evening, make sure you attend the Apple Bash put on by the Lions Club of Versailles.

Welcome from the versailles olde tyme apple festival™ chairman

I would like to welcome everyone to the 2024 Versailles Olde Tyme Apple Festival. We have had a busy year of planning for this year’s Apple Festival to make it bigger and better than 2023.

Every year, the Apple Festival continues to grow bigger and bigger, and it takes a large group of volunteers and organizations to make this event happen. We greatly appreciate your support. We are always making improvements every year to make the festival more accessible and fun for all of the festival-goers.

Make sure you take time to check out all of the activities we have going on over the weekend, as well as shopping at some of your favorite vendor’s booths for homemade crafts and your favorite festival foods. This weekend will be packed full of events for all

ages.

If you’re able to make a weekend out of your trip to the Versailles Olde Tyme Apple Festival, be sure to check out some of our locallyowned businesses and see what Versailles has to offer every day.

We look forward to seeing you on October 5th and 6th and continuing to make The Versailles Olde Tyme Apple Festival the best festival in the state.

2024 grand marshal

Rick Vogt

Rick Vogt has been named the 2024 Apple Festival Grand Marshal, a fitting honor for a man who has dedicated his life to the Versailles community. He undoubtedly learned this dedication from his father, Vencil “Corky” Vogt, a lifelong resident of Versailles who gave back to the community in many ways, including serving as a board member of the Morgan County Historical Society. Rick has taken Corky’s legacy and continued it to the benefit of our town.

With a distinguished career in banking spanning over 16 years, Rick’s professional journey includes significant tenures at Citizens, Mercantile, and American Bank, where his expertise and leadership have left a lasting impact.

Rick married the love of his life, Rhonda, 47 years ago. Together, they have raised two children, Derek Vogt and Ashley Vogt. They are also the proud grandparents of Lanie, Kensley, and Cade.

Rick’s dedication to community service is unparalleled. A longstanding member of the Lions Club for 39 years, he has served tirelessly in various capacities, embodying the Lions’ motto of “We Serve.” His influence extends to several

community organizations, including the Fair Board, SB 40 Board, Rolling Hills Country Club Board, and Children’s House Board. His financial acumen is evident in his roles as Treasurer of Central Missouri Sheep and Goat LLC, a member of the Citizens BancShares Board, and Treasurer of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

Rick’s commitment to education is demonstrated by his tenure on the school board, where he worked to ensure a bright future for the youth of Versailles. His wife, Rhonda, mirrored this commitment through her time working in the school’s central office and a tradition that their daughter Ashley continues as an elementary teacher at Versailles.

His passion for sports and youth development shines through his time serving as a dedicated Little League Coach, mentoring and shaping young athletes.

The Versailles Chamber of Commerce is proud to add Rick to the long list of outstanding citizens who have served as the Apple Festival Grand Marshal.

Welcome to Versailles from the city

of versailles mayor

Jamie Morrow Mayor, City of Versailles

Welcome to Versailles, home of the Versailles Olde Tyme Apple Festival™. For more than 40 years, the first weekend in October has been set aside by the Versailles Area Chamber of Commerce to sponsor this event, which benefits our local businesses and showcases our city and a variety of local talent. I have served on the Chamber board for the past ten years. I understand and appreciate the many hours given to our community by chamber members, city officials and staff, police and sheriff’s departments, city and rural fire departments, the ambulance district, local schoolteachers and students, local churches, and many other community organizations and individuals. It is this combined effort that not only makes the Versailles Olde Tyme Apple Festival™ a premier festival that has been recognized as the best small-town festival in our State but also makes Versailles a wonderful place to live and work.

In recent years, the Versailles Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Versailles have collaborated to add new events that promote our community, including “Ozarks Grillin and Chillin,” the city’s annual Independence Day celebration, the annual “Scare on the Square,” which will be held

on Saturday, October 26, and the annual “Christmas Around Versailles Lighted Celebration” on Saturday, December 14. All these new events bring a unique flair that showcases our city to residents and visitors alike.

It gives me great pride as the Mayor of Versailles to welcome you to our city, and I sincerely hope you are blessed by your time here.

museum to offer historical tours

The Morgan County Historical Society and Museum is a time capsule that offers a captivating glimpse into the area’s past. From its humble beginnings to its present-day status as a treasure trove of local history, this museum stands as a testament to the community’s commitment to preserving its heritage and sharing it with generations to come.

During the Versailles Olde Tyme Apple Festival™, history enthusiasts and curious minds alike have a unique opportunity to step back in time at the Morgan County Museum. Conveniently located at 118 N. Monroe in Versailles, the museum opens its doors for tours from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The admission fee is $5.00 per adult, $3.00 for children 6 - 12 years, and children 5 years and under are granted free entry. This is a chance to explore a piece of Morgan County’s history while enjoying the festivities of the festival.

Housed within the walls of the former Martin Hotel, the Morgan County Museum itself is a historical artifact. The hotel was established in 1853 by Samuel and Elizabeth (Gray) Martin, making it one of the oldest structures in Morgan County. After Samuel’s passing in 1906, his widow Elizabeth and their daughters Lucy and Sally continued to run the business. Remarkably, Elizabeth “Grandma” Martin lived to the impressive age of 104, passing away in 1930.

In 1967, the Morgan County

Historical Society acquired the Martin Hotel, transforming it into the cherished museum it is today. The dedication to preserving history was recognized when the hotel was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The Martin Hotel’s historical significance extends beyond its years as a stagecoach stop on the Jefferson City-Springfield route, as it later served guests arriving by Rock Island and Missouri Pacific railroads.

Visitors to the museum are treated to a remarkable journey through 26 rooms filled with artifacts and exhibits spanning the 1800s and 1900s. The meticulously recreated rooms provide insight into early rural life, showcasing settings like beauty shops, doctor’s offices, and barbershops. The museum allows guests to step into the past, experiencing the ambiance and day-to-day life of a bygone era.

The stories of the Martin Hotel’s guests come alive through the historical artifacts on display. Hotel rates from yesteryears are astonishingly low, with guests paying $1.00 per day, including 25 cents for a bed, 25 cents per meal, and a 25-cent weekly bath. The parlor boasts a square piano that was once demonstrated at the 1904 World’s Fair, while the hotel lobby still houses the Seth Thomas clock wound by “Grandma Martin” herself.

The museum expands beyond the hotel’s confines, housing a genealogy room brimming with documents that unveil Morgan County’s history. Census records, obituaries, school records, cemetery information, and pioneer certificates provide invaluable resources for researchers and history enthusiasts. Visitors can also explore the museum store, offering a diverse array of items for sale, from homemade children’s and doll quilts to antique china, children’s toys, and books.

More than just a repository of artifacts, the Morgan County Historical Society and Museum serves as a guardian of the region’s legacy. The society’s commitment to preserving the hotel and county history is evident, and it operates as a non-profit, taxexempt organization. For those who wish to

learn more or plan a visit, the museum can be reached at 573-378-5530.

As the Morgan County Historical Society and Museum continues to bridge the gap between the past and the present, it remains an invaluable resource for fostering a deeper connection to the heritage that shapes the community. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a curious traveler, or a local resident, the museum promises an enriching and enlightening experience that transcends time.

The Bluegrass Martins

On the Main Stage

Saturday 1 - 5 PM

The Bluegrass Martins will be joining us again on the Main Stage from 1:00-5:00pm on Saturday.

The Bluegrass Martins have been playing music together since the early 2000’s. All members of the same family, they grew up in rural central Missouri. They began their musical journey playing talent shows, churches and local festivals, absorbing and relaying the music around them in enthusiastic fashion. Traveling as far as Florida, Maine, California, parts of Canada and performing on cruises to Mexico and the Bahamas, they have enjoyed bringing their style of music to great audiences.

They embody the traditions of bluegrass music while exploring the soulful sounds of country, blues and gospel. Each of the band members are individually accomplished musicians and have been awarded for their instrumental and vocal capabilities. From toe tapping instrumentals to smooth harmony vocal selections, they have culminated their show to bring you an inspirational moment in time.
