The purpose of Education Week is to recognize the contributions of educators, administrators, parents, and students in shaping the education system. It is also an opportunity to highlight the importance of education and to promote its role in building a strong and prosperous nation.

According to the Alberta Teachers Association Education Week was first observed in Alberta in 1928, making it one of the oldest celebrations of education in the world. The event was initially known as Alberta School Week and was held December 2-8 and was intended to promote public awareness of the importance of education and the remarkable things happening in Alberta Schools. Over the years, the event has evolved and is now recognized as “Education Week” and celebrated in all provinces and terri- tories of Canada.

The theme of Education Week varies each year, with a focus on a particular aspect of education. For instance, the theme for 2023 is ‘Learning Uplifts All.’

- Education Week is an excellent opportunity to advocate for public education and to:

- Illustrate the important role that schools play in communities

- Assure taxpayers that public funds are being put to good use

- Invite the public into classrooms for first-hand experiences

- Highlight the partnership between teachers, parents and students

- Celebrate the contribution that all staff and volunteers make in the school.

Mother’s Day is a significant occasion that allows us to reflect on the essential role that mothers play in our lives. It is a day to appreciate and honor the tremendous sacrifices that mothers make for their children. Motherhood is a selfless job that requires a tremendous amount of patience, love, and dedication. Mothers often put their own needs aside to ensure that their children’s needs are met. They give their time, energy, and resources to raise their children to become healthy, happy, and successful individuals.
