2019 Charbono WINEMAKER NOTES
This vintage of from our historic Charbono blocks explodes with bold fruit on the nose and palate. Notes of blackberry, lush, ripe plum, cobbler, licorice, strawberry compote, and rhubarb. Additional flavors of crushed brick minerality, white pepper, and molasses are present. The palate has a medium weight which will benefit from a little time in the cellar to flush out the center of this wine. BACKGROUND
With less than 80 acres left of this varietal in existence (all in California), Charbono is quite a rare grape. Brought to Calistoga from France in the 1880s, the 11.5 acres of Charbono vines planted at Frediani Vineyards are over 80 years old and are widely thought to produce some of the best Charbono fruit in the country.
