2018 XXXIV WINEMAKER NOTES
Aromatics of violet, ripe plum, and a faint graphite mineral note (from the Cabernet Franc). Subtle hints of rosemary can be detected. With time in the glass or decanter, it carries more dense characteristics of licorice and savory notes. Subtle sweetness of vanilla bean, with confectionary layers of cranberry compote and rhubarb. The XXXIV presents a much darker profile than the aromatics let on. Flavors of blackberry, licorice, and star anise. The acidity is well structured and frames the wine nicely from beginning to end. With time, the fruit rounds out a little bit and gives way to a smooth tannin structure that is still developing in the bottle. There are very nice layers of chalky minerality, under tones of cigar box and leather, and unctuous mid palate weight which is Petite Sirah making its presence known. BACKGROUND
Our XXXIV is a reference to Coach’s famous Super Bowl win with the St. Louis Rams in 2000. A blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petite Sirah, this wine has quietly become one of our most sought after wines over the years. It is a great example of how integration of all the right elements can bring about exceptional results. APPELLATION: ALC. BY VOL .:
