2 nd Hospital Dietetics Workshop for Postgraduate Students The Department of Dietetics conducted the 2nd Hospital Dietetics Workshop on 26th October, 2016, following an overwhelming response received from the participants of the first workshop earlier this month and requests from other colleges to conduct Hospital Dietetics Workshop for their students as well. This workshop was conducted under the leadership of Ms. Mahendri N.V., Head of Dietetics, with an objective to expose M.Sc. Nutrition students to the field of Hospital Dietetics and Food Service Management Studies. They were taken through the dietitian’s role in the process of nutrition care and intervention. Forty postgraduate nutrition students from Avinashilingam College, Coimbatore, and DKM College, Vellore, participated and responded with encouraging feedback.

Self-Learning Module Workshop for CMC Staff The skill of writing self-learning modules is one that is helpful for any department seeking to launch a course on a distance platform. The Distance Education Unit conducted a one-day workshop on writing Self-Learning Modules (SLM) on 10th November, 2016, with a close look at concepts such as developing a road map for a module, learning how to write and develop content and the use of pictures and graphics in a module. There were also sessions geared towards Adult Learning Principles, Teaching and Learning Methods and Assessments for the Adult Learner. This workshop, which was open to any staff member, brought in a total of 19 participants from various departments including Anatomy, Dental, Development Office, Distance Education, Endocrinology, Endocrine Surgery, Hospital Management / Staff Training, Infection Control, Palliative Care and Transfusion Medicine. The hope is that this will facilitate many departments of CMC to contribute significantly to the considerable training needs outside the institution, leveraging the abundant expertise existing within these departments, toward wider health transformation in the nation.

Sports News The Second CMC Tennis Club Tournament 2016 was held at the CMC Hospital Campus tennis court from 3rd October to 5th November, 2016. There were more than 30 players who participated in various events. The finals were held on 5th November, where Dr. Vikram Mathews, Professor and Head, Department of Haematology, as the chief guest, distributed the prizes to the winners. Men’s Singles: Winner: Dr. Sathya Narayanan, Department of Radiology Runner-up: Dr. Rajiv Karthik K., Department of Infectious Diseases Men’s Doubles: Winners: Dr. Rajiv Karthik and Dr. Ashish Goel Runners-up: Dr. Pritish Korula and Dr. Naveen Muliyal Mixed Doubles: Winners: Sharon Roshan and Dr. Rajiv Karthik; Runners-up: Dr. Ira Gautam and Dr. Aparanjit Paul.

Retirement

The CMC Community thanks him for his many years of dedicated services to the institution and wishes him a blessed retired life.

'A' Ward Sale successfully conducted

Mr. C. Arumugam, Hospital Attendant Gr.I, RUHSA, retired from service on 7th November, 2016 after 38 years in the institution. He joined CMC on 1st October, 1978. He is blessed with two sons and a daughter. His son, Mr. Manoj Kumar is a Hospital Attendant in 'O' Block.

The 'A' Ward family conveys their sincere appreciation to patients, staff, students and the community for having contributed generously and making the 'A' Ward sale a grand success. A profit of Rs.8 lakhs from the sale will be donated towards the Person to Person (P.T.P) fund for treating patients who are in need. 3
