Graduation Ceremony 2016 for Medical Undergraduates

challenged them by asking “What will you do with these gifts? How can you use these to make a difference around you?” She narrated how Dr. Kiran Bedi used her gifts to transform the notorious Tihar jail and how Dr. Ida Scudder used her gifts to make such a difference. Dr. Kiran Bedi, in her address, challenged the graduates to come back to India even if they went abroad to train, as India needs them. She asked the graduates to walk around in the rural areas in which they will be working, to get first-hand information about the needs of the community and address them. She called it the power of circulation, as this will give energy and inspiration to move forward. She was touched when the graduates, students and faculty sang the college song together. “A community which prays together, sings together and eats together, stays together”, she observed.

The Mrs. Mariaviakulam David Memorial Medal for the best outgoing student was awarded to Harshita Nori. She won 28 prizes which included medals, prizes and honours for her outstanding academic performance throughout her MBBS course. Dr. Deepak Thomas Abraham, Professor of Endocrine Surgery, was honoured with the Drs. Molly and Thomas Bhanu Best Teacher Award. Dr. Anu Mary Oommen, Associate Professor, Community Health Department, was awarded the Best Research Publication of the Year by a Junior Member of the Faculty. The prestigious Paul Harrison Award for Meritorious Service in Rural Areas was presented to Drs. Vijay Anand and Ann Miriam. This award, CMC’s highest honour, is presented to an alumnus for significant, steadfast and selfless service, thus living out the motto of the institution: Not to be ministered unto but to minister. he undergraduate Medical Graduation was held on 14 th November, 2016 with solemnity and grandeur. The ceremony began with the much awaited procession. The jasmine chainwas carried elegantly by the final year medical students, followed by the graduates and faculty. The choir sang an invocation song, followed by prayer, by Rev. Rainard Pearson, Chaplaincy. The Director, Dr. Sunil Thomas Chandy, welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest, Dr. Kiran Bedi, IPS (Retd.), Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. The graduates were presented to the Principal, Dr. Anna B. Pulimood by the Registrar, Dr. Regi Oommen. The prize winners were presented to the chief guest, Dr. Kiran Bedi by the Vice Principal, Dr. Solomon Sathishkumar. Dr. Anna Pulimood, in her charge to the graduates, reminded them of the gifts they have received freely during their training and
