Supporting Educators and Students in Dyslexia Education

The Ruth Harris Professorship at the VCU School of Education enhances research, training, and community engagement in dyslexia education. Established in 2010 through the generosity of Dr. Louis and Ruth Harris, the professorship supports faculty, doctoral research, and professional development opportunities to improve literacy education.

What We Offer:

Dyslexia Research and Training

n Supports faculty and doctoral student research in dyslexia and language learning disabilities

n Provides funding for workshops, virtual events, and the annual Dyslexia Symposium

“I want to see every education student learn the characteristics of dyslexia so they can identify the condition early and get help for those children,” said Ruth Harris, M.Ed. “It takes highquality faculty for a university to be successful, and one way to achieve that is through endowed professorships.”

Ruth Harris passed away at 94 in 2014. Louis S. Harris, Ph.D., who served on the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine faculty for 44 years, passed away in 2019. Chuck Harris, the only child of the late Dr. and Mrs. Harris, now represents the Ruth and Louis Harris Foundation.
