Bendigo - Siteworks Update

If you are visiting the site you will see big changes in the landscape for stage 1

Our contractors have benefitted from the sunny autumn weather which allowed all drainage and internal sewer mains to completed.

We have our home builder Todd Devine Homes on site next week to start working out their building compound establishment.

Fingers crossed the great weather continues and the roads and entry can be formed quickly.

Story Behind the Naming of Vital Bendigo's Homes

Here are some of the stories behind the names we’ve adopted for our houses.

We wanted to affirm our connection to Bendigo when naming our homes. There are nine designs to choose from at Vital Bendigo. We offer a range of accommodation and price points to suit your needs.

The Bellevue

South Belle Vue United mining company was located on the New Chum reef next to where the Quarry Hill Golf course is now situated. The mine operated from 1878 until 1891 and had a mineshaft nearly 700 meters deep (2270 feet)

The Shamrock

The Shamrock Hotel began life in 1854, as a small hotel known as The Exchange Hotel, servicing miners during the gold rush and including a Cobb and Co. office and a concert hall known as the Theatre Royal. It was renamed "The Shamrock" in 1855. The same year the Theatre Royal hosted Lola Montez performing for the diggers who threw gold nuggets at her feet, many of which the Shamrock staff took as tips while cleaning.

The Victoria

Gold was discovered on Victoria Hill in 1854 and by 1861, 1,200,000 ounces of gold had been extracted from the site. During its 97 years of operation, the Victoria Hill mine yielded about $8bn worth of gold in today’s values and was the deepest mine in the world at 1.4 km (4,613 feet). The mine appeared on Australia’s first pound note printed in 1913.

The Ashby

In a departure from the recent history of Bendigo, our revamped home design The Ashby was chosen for a very famous Bendigonian Glenn Ashby. Glenn is a multiple world champion sailor who learned to sail on Lake Eppalock, he has also been distinguished by steering the winning Americas Cup yacht Team New Zealand twice and is also the world speed record holder for a wind powered vehicle. He clocked 222.4 km/h in 2023 on Lake Gairdner in South Australia – a truly remarkable feat.

Vital Communities Lilydale

Our development proposal for a boutique over 50’s community adjacent to the Lilydale Lake is due to be put before Yarra Ranges full Council meeting this month.

We have been dealing with Yarra Ranges Council on this proposal for nearly five years and are hopefully getting closer to an approval.

It has been a very exhausting and expensive journey, but the quality of the site is worth it given the incredible demand we have received from people living in the area.

Yarra Ranges Council face massive challenges in increasing supply of houses over the next five years with indications that up to a minimum 11,300 dwellings will be needed in the eastern metropolitan zone.

Vital Communities Lilydale

In the over 50’s cohort which is of major interest to Vital they are losing nearly 1300 people per annum to other municipalities because there isn’t enough affordable supply for people to age in place.

This was recognised by Council’s own plan the “Healthy Active and Ageing Plan”(HAAP) commissioned in 2019 which basically stated one of the biggest challenges facing them was to provide suitable affordable housing for the over 60’s population then and in the years ahead.

Amazingly Council in the past have not acted on this report and the problem has gotten bigger as the years roll on with it peaking in 2021 when 2,700 people in that age group moved out of the Yarra Ranges area.

We believe our site well and truly meets the Government’s initiative to build in the metropolitan area on vacant infill sites that have laid dormant for years.

We are looking forward to adding Vital Lilydale to our growing list of quality communities in the near future.
