Lucas Herbet Bendigo Boy
Today we bring you a human-interest story about a local Bendigo boy who has made a big impression on world golf since he turned professional. This will be the start of more of these type of stories of people and reportings from Bendigo, We hope to feature human interest stories from time to time.
Professional golfer Lucas Herbert born on 5th December 1995 has won 3 times on the European Tour and once on the PGA. Lucas recently announced that he will be joining the LIV Golf League.
Raised in Bendigo Lucas played his junior golf locally at Neangar Park Golf Club and Commonwealth Golf Club in Melbourne before turning professional. He represented Australia in the 2014 Eisenhower Cup Trophy a prestigious worldwide event for amateurs. Australia finished 6th overall with Herbert tied for the second-best individual score, three strokes behind golfing great Jon Rahm. He turned professional in late 2015.

After playing for 2 years on the Australian PGA Tour with many close runners up finishes, he joined the European Tour in 2018 and had 4 top 3 finishes in his first year.
In 2020 Herbert had his first tournament win in the Dubai Desert Classic a European Tour event and propelling him to a career high of 73 in the world rankings.

In 2021 he backed this up winning the Dubai Irish Open a very prestigious event and a week later finished one stroke off the leaders at the Scottish Open. By the end of the year, he had entered the top 50 in the official world rankings. An incredible feat given the short amount of time he had been playing internationally.
During the 21-22 season Herbert earnt a PGA card allowing him to play on the US tour and in October of 2021, he won his first PGA event at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship pocketing a first prize of $US 1,170,000 a significant pay day but one that was well earnt.
In April 2023, Herbert won the ISPS Championship in Japan in a playoff. In January of this year, he joined LiV Golf for the 2024 season.
Prior to joining LIV Golf his record tallied 4 professional titles with 3 wins on the European Tour and 1 win on the US PGA tour.
Lucas loves Bendigo and tries to get home as much as he can these days to catch up with family and mates and immerse himself back into local lifestyle. He always supports local golf tournaments when he can and we at Vital witnessed it firsthand when he returned to play in the Bendigo Christmas Challenge in 2022 which we sponsored.
Lucas is indeed someone who all of Bendigo and Victoria should be very proud of and we wish him all the best with his new challenge at LIV Golf.
