Fall Family Weekend & Panther Perkhouse

FAMILY WEEKEND

is all about our families and students coming together at Vanguard and showcasing all they have learned in the past 9 weeks. It is also a great opportunity for parents to meet their child's teacher!

INTRODUCING OUR PANTHER PERKHOUSE! During Family Weekend, Ms. Tysver and her culinary & drama class put together our very first Panther Perkhouse. The Panther Perkhouse was created as a way to showcase our student’s talents and share them with families and the community. Culinary Arts students offered yummy sweet treats, specialty coffees, and hot drinks and drama students provided entertainment. While enjoying their treats guest were invited to view the Student Art Gallery presentation from the visual art students. Due to our Perkhouse succes, we will be having our second event in December! Stay tuned!

Athletics Susan Chen Has been a top contender since the beginning of the season! Last week, Susan attended the District tournament and advanced onto the Regional Tournament where competition was fierce! Although Regionals did not go her way, we are working on getting her more lessons this year and next, to make her stronger! We are so proud of resilience and dedication. Go Susan!

Introducing our New Head Basketball Coach, Adam Dirlbeck! Coach Dirlbeck came to us from Oklahoma Baptist University, where he served on their coaching staff for three years. Coach Dirlbeck was also able to coach long side Coach Sheppard and work in the dorms last year. He is very active in our community and so excited for his first season as the Head Coach! "We have a great group of kids and I'm so excited to see how our season goes!" We are excited too! Go Panthers!

UPCOMING SPORTS

INTRODUCING OUR NEW PANTHER JUAN!

Basketball Soccer Track and Field Archery

During Family Weekend, we ran a "Name our Panther" contest as another way to fund raise for student activities and our students chose Juan. Juan showed bravery, strength, and kindness to others even through his toughest moments. He was a true example of what a Vanguard Panther should represent. (Juan was a previous student who attended Vanguard, but passed away in 2019 due to health issues.) We will miss him dearly.

Community Service

ADOPT-AGRANDPARENT Some of our students participated on the Adopt-aGrandparent Community Trick or Treating at Grace Nursing Home. This time of year is their favorite because they get to dress up, help and spend time with their grandparents!

BAHAMAS HURRICANE RELIEF As you all know, specific islands of the Bahamas were almost completely destroyed as a result of Hurricane Dorian. In an effort to foster our core value of service and try and give back to those in such an unfortunate position, the Vanguard School will be attending a trip to assist those so greatly affected by this storm. We will be volunteering through shelters, Salvation Army, Human Society, orphanage and Centre for the Deaf. Additionally, our uniform store made shirts and proceeds went towards purchasing supplies.

OUR FALL FESTIVAL Through enthusiasm and self-advocacy, students proposed bringing back our Fall Festival, an event we used to do a couple of years ago. Students experienced face painting, photo booth, pumpkin gore, worm bobbing, tic tac toe, pumpkin toss, make a mummy, DIY candied apples and candy pong. We also had an APEX competition and best costume where students were awarded an awesome prize!
