Lead Change in the Health Care Sector Master of Science in Health Care Transformation

CLASS OF 2020 AND 2021 Dear Prospective Applicant, The goal of health care delivery should be achieving better health results for individuals and families. Too often, however, this goal is lost among fragmented services, frustrating inefficiencies, and a focus on the wrong priorities. At The University of Texas at Austin, we offer a first-of-its-kind Master of Science in Health Care Transformation degree that equips students with the skills necessary to change health care, focusing on what matters most: better health for those we serve. This one-year program provides practical, “how-to” guidance for increasing health care value by dramatically improving outcomes for patients and their families relative to care costs. Offered jointly by Dell Medical School and the McCombs School of Business, the MS in Health Care Transformation uses a blended format designed for working professionals that combines online and onsite learning. Students spend a total of four weeks in Austin (one week each in August, January, May, and August). Online classes, which take place between those residential periods, include about 15 hours of coursework per week and cover topics such as designing effective care delivery solutions, measuring meaningful outcomes, and leading teams for excellence. Our students hail from across the health care sector and are unified by a common desire to make transformation a reality. Together with our growing alumni base, this cohort creates a foundation of professional relationships that will support them throughout their careers. Health care needs better models of care delivery. We hope you’ll join us to become a leader in catalyzing change.

Program Reviews “ The MSHCT program is life changing. With every course, I’m gaining professionally relevant knowledge that I am able to confidently incorporate into my career as a physician, director, and health care advocate. We have been taught to become accurate and concise advocates, a skill so necessary when we describe and propose our projects to stakeholders.”

“ The way I’ve learned to quantify and conceptualize value in this program has allowed me to communicate the importance of measuring outcomes and expanding analysis beyond cost alone. This has enabled me to bring additional value to my clients and apply a value-based lens to the organizations I work for.” - Lauren Jackson, MPAff, MSHCT Sr. Consultant, Capital Healthcare Planning

- David Schneider, D.O. Physician, Associate Medical Director Telehealth, Community Health Centers of the Rutland Region

“ “

“ This program has enamored me not only with the tools to transform healthcare but has also provided insights on how I can “shift” the needle --even if it’s just a few inches--and tilt the scale of outcomes that truly matter to others, in the right direction.”

- Princely Ebwe, Security Operations Center Analyst, Aspire Technology Partners

“ Everyone is incredibly gracious with all their knowledge, their heart, and their care. It’s as if everything was baked in and just so intentional. Every little piece of it was well thought out and with very good intentions.” - Donna Shanor Director of Clinical Social Work, Department of Health Social Work, Dell Medical School

“ This program is right on time. It has great relevance to decisions I’m making every day, and my thinking about those decisions has already evolved based on what I’m learning. I have never had this level of applicability or immediate translation in an academic program.”

“ The interdisciplinary aspect of the program was a highlight for me. I don’t think that at any other point in my career I’ll sit down in a room with people representing so many different perspectives across the spectrum of health care. Being able to hear and learn from those perspectives was really helpful.”
