registration fees, refunds & receipts

REGISTER EARLY

It is important to register early to ensure your place in our programs. If your class is full, we can place you on the wait list and if there is a cancellation we will contact you. Payment is not required until we place you in the class.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Valpo Parks reserves the right to cancel or alter a class or program due to limited registration or circumstances beyond its control. In this instance, enrollment fees will be refunded to you via check or by credit back to your household account.

The Park Board has adopted a policy of the resident discount user fees at most facilities and for most programs. This policy apportions an equalized higher fee to our non-resident participants. The higher fee contributes to the overall operations financing of the Park Department on an equitable basis with Valparaiso City residents who contribute by paying property taxes. Standard fees are offered to those residing within or owning property within Valparaiso City limits.

FEE ASSISTANCE

Fee Assistance is available to reduce the basic fee for most Park Youth Programs. Fee assistance is based on family income and the number of members in the family. To apply, simply inquire when registering for a youth activity. A parent will be required to complete an application for assistance.

PARTICIPATION

By participating in park programs you assume the risk of injury and you agree to hold harmless the Valpo Parks Department, the City of Valparaiso and its agents and forfeit the right to make any claim for monetary damages against Valpo Parks and the City of Valparaiso if you or your property is damaged while participating in or attending a program or while in a park facility.

PHOTOGRAPH OR VIDEOTAPE

Park staff and volunteers may photograph or videotape participants enrolled in programs and events or enjoying park facilities. These photos are for department use only and may be used in department publications or media promotions. If you prefer that you or your child not be photographed, please notify the photographer or program supervisor.

security

For the protection of park visitors and their property, all Valparaiso Parks have a 10 pm curfew unless otherwise posted or unless prior arrangements have been made. Visitor cooperation is appreciated.

RECEIPTS

Receipts are automatically generated through online registration. Please refer to this brochure as a record of program dates and times for your reference. Most league players will be contacted by coaches and captains. To confirm your enrollment in a class please call the Park Office.

REFUNDS

participation & photos dogs in parks

Facility rental fees are non-refundable; including, Butterfield Family Pavilion, Central Park Plaza, Ogden Gardens and Foundation Meadows Gazebos, park shelters, hayrides and pre-paid Rogers-Lakewood entrance fees.

Be considerate of others enjoying the parks. Dogs are allowed in the parks, but they must be on a leash and owners are responsible for cleaning up after them. Please leash and scoop. PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Like many of you, I am a proud citizen of Valparaiso. Serving as the current president of the Valparaiso Parks and Recreation Board of Directors is an honor and a privilege, one for which I am grateful. I’ve learned how much the Parks Department contributes, not only to the health and wellness of all people, but also to the beauty of our town.

Valpo Parks adds such an element of fun and beauty to Valparaiso! This realization elicits in me the feeling to give back, to volunteer, to be a part of things. Being involved, in any capacity, makes us, our neighborhoods and our city stronger, more unified, more diversified.

The Parks, with the support of local government, as well as public and private funding, is on the precipice of generational improvements to our park system. Valpo for All Generations is a comprehensive plan of action, aiming to create and enhance our recreational space for all ages and interests. Game changing plans…pun intended!

For starters, a state-of-the-art skatepark is nearly underway, with a completion date of fall 2023. Located at Fairgrounds Park, the skatepark will incorporate ramps, street features and a beginners area for all ages and abilities. Get on Board Valpo!

Next up and just as exciting is a new 248-acre park located on the east side of Valparaiso, which will boast multi-use sports fields, walking trails, playgrounds and more! Tucked in an area of natural surroundings, this park will have much to offer.

The Adult Center for Enrichment (ACE) is a modern and much needed community building that will replace the current, and well-loved, Banta Activity Center on Beech Street. Not only will the building be new, the programming and philosophy will be refreshed as well. The ACE will offer activities, meals, and fellowship, helping build and maintain strong, social, and happy adults over 50.

Finally, we could never forsake our own beloved neighborhood parks, the legacy and foundation of our park system. Valued for their differences, as are our citizens, our legacy parks will also receive some love and attention. In some cases, new playground equipment and landscaping may be in order. In other instances, new and safer entrances and larger scale plans are on the docket.

Hopefully, one of these personally interests you. These are BIG and BOLD endeavors, for Valparaiso and for us, its citizens. I invite all of you to find what interests you and get involved. Make your mark with Valpo for All Generations!
