About the Facility William E. Urschel Pavilion The 12,000 square foot open-air pavilion provides the perfect setting for a variety of uses. Booked with parties and markets in the warm weather months, it is converted into a hub of winter enjoyment with its 80 by 120 foot outdoor ice rink that is nicely protected from the elements under its towering arched roof. A state-of-theart sound system for music and colorful changing lights set the stage for a memorable ice skating experience for all ages and abilities.

Indiana Beverage Activity Center Guests are welcomed into the Indiana Beverage Activity Center for admission to the ice rink and the ability to rent ice skates. The Center offers tables and chairs for visitors to escape the cold and take advantage of our fully staffed concession stand offering assorted snacks, hot chocolate and soft drinks. The Center also includes a conference room that can be reserved for birthday parties and other small gatherings. Upon request, locker rental is available to secure shoes and other items while visiting. For those looking to watch their friends or loved ones skating, a transparent glass wall allows those inside to watch what is happening outside.

Ice Skating Under William E. Urschel Pavilion For the 2023/2024 season, ice skating will be available under William E. Urschel Pavilion from November 13th through March 10th. All ages & family friendly! **PLEASE NOTE** Times and specials are tentative and subject to change due to holidays, weather, and/or private rentals. Please check the calendar page on our website for updated daily times and specials.

*10 or more people. Includes admission and skate rental. Must give 24 hours notice to rink. Skate sizes not guaranteed.

Rental Items

Skate rental is on a first come first serve basis. When renting skate aids, lockers, and helmets, we require an ID to hold during the rental time.

Other items can not be held for these rental items.

For those who are just starting out and want to give ice skating a try or who just enjoy having extra protection, the generous folks at Centier Bank have given rental helmets that are available free of charge. All we ask is to hold an ID. Skate aid rentals are based on a per hour basis. After the hour is up, the skate aid must be returned for the next customer to use. If no other customers are on the wait list, the skate aid may be rented again for an additional hour at the $8.00 fee. Skate aids must be off the ice by 7:00pm and will not be rented out after 6:00pm Fridays & Saturdays, and during holiday hours (see holiday schedule).

Skate Sharpening

Using America’s best skate sharpening equipment from Blademaster, our staff is able to offer basic recreational blade sharpening to your skates. To have your skates sharpened, drop them off at the Indiana Beverage Activity Center at Central Park Plaza.

Learn to Skate Session and registration dates apply to all lesson levels.

Classes meet twice a week. Lesson fee includes ice skate rental; participants can also use their own skates. Participants must wear a helmet; bike helmets are acceptable. Helmets are available for rent at the rink for free. Space is limited, we like to keep classes smaller for better instruction. Makeup days for lessons canceled due to weather and/or rink conditions will be held at the end of the session and only one makeup day is guaranteed.

Tot Lessons

Tots/parents will learn how to properly put on skates, sit and stand in skates, march in place, march forward, and glide on the ice. Our goal is to make Tots feel comfortable on the ice and have fun ice skating!

Ages: 3-5 | 20 min | $70 Class I: Monday 3:55pm and Saturday 10:30am Class II: Wednesday 3:55pm and Saturday 9:55am

Beginner Lessons

Students will learn how to properly put on skates, sit/stand in skates, march forward, glide, stop, and swizzle. This class is for beginners with little to no experience skating or for Tots who are ready for the next step. Our goal is to help students feel comfortable skating and learn basic skills. There are Beginner and Junior classes. Junior classes (formerly known as Beginner II) are for those who have already taken the Beginner class and are ready for the next step.

Ages: 6 - 17 | 30 min | $70 Class I: Monday 4:20pm & Saturday 8:45am Class II: Wednesday 4:20pm & Saturday 9:20am

Junior

Intermediate Lessons

This level is for those who have taken Junior and are ready for the next step. This class focuses on advancing skills and students will learn half swizzles (forwards and backwards), two foot turns, one foot glides, and more as the skill level of the class allows.

Ages: 10 - 18 | 30 min | $70 Monday & Wednesday 5:30pm

Advanced Lessons

This is for those who have completed Intermediate or are confident with forward and backwards swizzles, half swizzles, two foot turns, and stopping. In this class students learn crossovers, three turns, lunges, spirals and more!

Valpo Parks Youth Hockey These programs are specifically designed to develop players’ skills from beginner to intermediate levels of play. Whether you are still learning to start and stop or you are transitioning into more detailed skills. These sessions are dedicated to building upon skills already acclimated and mastering new ones.

Adult 4 on 4 Hockey League Come and enjoy a recreational adult hockey league here at Central Park Plaza. With up to an 11 person roster, your team will consist of up to 8 skaters, 1 goalie, 2 subs. Must be 18 years & older to play. Games are held on Monday and Tuesday evenings starting in January 2024. This 8 week, 8 game series hosts up to 12 teams. Helmet and gloves are required, full gear is recommended.

8 person roster - $875 Per Team Teams may register from October 2nd to November 17th at Valpo Park’s office (3210 Campbell Street, Valparaiso, IN 46385). Registration information and rosters will be available at the Valpo Parks Office and due at the latest by November 17, 2023.

Birthday Parties are held in the Indiana Beverage Activity Center Conference Room. Available on Friday, Saturday & Sunday and during the Holiday Hours dates. Party must be booked no later than two weeks prior to the party date.

Days & Hours

9:00am - 2:00pm, Monday - Thursday Choose how long you want to stay based on our availability. Bookings are done in 1 hour increments with a minimum of 2 hours per booking.

Additional Information

Bus Parking: Ample bus parking will be available and reserved for school groups on Napoleon Street and Indiana Avenue, south and west side of the Indiana Beverage Center Activity Building.

Skate rentals, sound system, LED lighting, conference room and lobby inside Indiana Beverage Activity Center, rental skates, and skate aids are included in the pricing.
