WHO WE ARE

The Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board (VFTCB) is a private, non-profit, membership-based sales and marketing organization which actively promotes the Valley Forge area and Montgomery County, PA as a convention site and leisure visitor destination by promoting patronage of its member hotels, restaurants, attractions, and services. The Board represents more than 500 member businesses throughout Southeast Pennsylvania.

The VFTCB is on a mission to increase economic prosperity by promoting Montgomery County’s natural, cultural, and historic assets to raise visibility as a tourism destination for leisure and convention markets. These efforts are meant to drive revenue to our member and partner businesses. The sales and marketing teams work together to fill the more than 9,000 hotel rooms in the county by targeting meeting, sports, tourism and leisure business, sending the sales team to conferences and conventions through the country and across the globe, and strategically marketing to target audiences through print, radio, TV & social media campaigns.

The Board’s funding comes from a combination of a tax imposed on visitors occupying the county’s hotel rooms and membership dues. We look forward to continuing to work together and to welcoming many more new members and partners in the years to come.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

TO OUR MEMBERS & PARTNERS,

Like so many of you, we at the Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board have been asking ourselves a lot of questions over the last couple of years. Mainly, how do we make it through this?

We so admire, respect, and commend all of you for your courage and innovation to endure yet another year of not just the pandemic, but so many other uncertainties and tumultuous world events that have impacted us.

The truth is, we know how to get through anything. We’ve known all along because it’s what we’ve always done.

WE FORGE AHEAD. HEADS DOWN. PATH FORWARD.

But, we carry this with us now. We can’t move on without looking back. Acknowledging loss, disappointment, and lessons learned, but also wins, problems solved, and maybe even some change for the better.

BECAUSE THERE IS HOPE. SOMETIMES IT MAY FEEL LIKE THERE’S ONLY BAD NEWS, SO HERE’S THE GOOD: WE’RE GAINING BACK GROUND IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, AND WE’RE SEEING POSITIVE MOMENTUM:

• Visitor spending generated $1.4 billion in positive economic impact in 2021 – that’s up 46% or $443 million from 2020 –and within $200 million of pre-pandemic levels! READ THAT AGAIN!

• Booked room nights are back up to 1.9 million, and room revenue recovered to $206 million, which outpaced the Philadelphia region and periodically surpassed monthly 2019 figures.

• Our second annual Crave Montco Month delivered more than 23,000 pageviews – a 485% increase year-over-year.

• Montgomery County, PA hosted the American Revolution Show for the first time, and we expanded our second annual Arts Montco Week to include the first-ever Jazz Fest.

• We were so excited to support our friends at Valley Forge National Historical Park with the brand-new museum exhibit experience!

• Our 16th annual Valley Forge Revolutionary 5-Mile Run was hybrid for the first time to raise more than $35,000 for the park.

• The newly redesigned valleyforge.org saw almost 966,338 and That’s 6% up over 2021!

• We introduced two new weather cameras with FOX 29 and NBC10.

• There were more than 670 stories (first in volume in the region) about Montgomery County reaching almost 847 million people – a $14.1 million value.

• The VFTCB’s social media FOLLOWING GREW to more than 180,000 with more than 22 million impressions, 2.5 million video views, and a brand-new TikTok!

• We partnered with Zartico to use geolocation to better understand our visitor economy: who’s coming, where they’re going, and how much they’re spending.

We’re working even smarter to make more data-driven decisions, and you have our renewed commitment to our community to diligently and creatively fill our hotel rooms to continue to drive positive economic impact – and jobs – for our industry.

We need to reconnect with each other, and our guests, now more than ever. The only way out is up. So, let’s Forge new paths together. To inspire visitors to travel, and create memorable experiences.

THE WINTER BUNDLE

VALLEY FORGE FOR THE HOLIDAYS 2021

ABOUT THIS CAMPAIGN: To bring awareness to all that Montgomery County has to offer during the holiday season, we put a seasonal spin on our “Make It Montco” campaign to help drive traffic to the area.

UNIQUE MARKETING MOVES: We identified holiday attractions in the drive market and used geofencing techniques to serve up digital ads. These conquesting locations included major shopping malls in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Delaware, as well as key holiday attractions such as Hersheypark’s Candycane Lane and and Christkindlmarkt in Bethlehem. We also strategically placed digital OOH opportunities, including digital displays in shopping malls across the region.

ACHIEVEMENTS: Our ads performed above industry standards & overdelivered on impressions. Through data from STR, we were able to see a significant lift in overnight rooms, nearly reaching pre-pandemic levels. This campaign also led to the highest Book Direct numbers ever seen by the organization.

WINTER ESCAPE

ABOUT THIS CAMPAIGN: There’s no better place for families to be in the winter than Montgomery County. That was the inspiration behind our campaign from January to March. We wanted to highlight all the fun winter activities, both indoor and outdoor, in Montgomery County.

UNIQUE MARKETING MOVES: For the first time, we created a video highlighting the winter attractions in Montgomery County. Working with the team from Seven Knots Film & Video, the spot featured the Alloy Hotel in King of Prussia, Spring Mountain, local trails and more. An aggressive digital and social ad campaign promoted the video and the ad campaign included a spot during Eagles playoffs, OTT, and a partnership with NBC and Telemundo to air the spot during news and the Olympics, leading into the Super Bowl and Peacock.

ACHIEVEMENTS: Our advertising campaign resulted in more than 13,000,000 impressions & drove significant traffic to valleyforge.org to kick off the year.

02: WINTER VERSION
MARKETING, COMMUNICATIONS, & SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING, COMMUNICATIONS, & SOCIAL MEDIA

WHERE KIDS RULE!

ABOUT THIS CAMPAIGN: Launched in April 2022, our new summer campaign aimed at driving day and overnight visitors to Montgomery County focused on family travel. Our advertising ran from April to September and included digital, radio, social, OTT, OHH and TV placements on NBC10, FOX 29 and NBC Sports Philadelphia. We targeted the most locations since the pandemic started, from Boston to Virginia, including a heavy presence in Washington, DC. Our targeted DC advertising presence included a partnership with Carvertise, the Washingtonian Magazine, and NPR.

UNIQUE MARKETING MOVES:

In an effort to get our brand in front of regional residents and visitors along the Jersey Shore, we took our message to the sky with aerial advertising. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, our letter banner with the message “You’re Missing all the Fun in Montco PA valleyforge.org” flew from Atlantic City to Cape May, reaching more than 12,000,000 people.

To encourage visitation to local attractions, restaurants and more, the team created the Montco Family Fun Savings Pass, in partnership with Bandwango, to offer discounts to local family-friendly businesses. The pass had more than 175 downloads during the summer.

ACHIEVEMENTS: The media buy generated more than 30-million impressions across tv, radio, out of home and digital advertising. Our focused advertising efforts in the Washington, DC market made a big splash, with an increase in the number of overnight visitors from this market.

ABOUT THIS CAMPAIGN: Our popular Make it Main Street Campaign continues to deliver for us, focusing on the people & businesses that make Montco special. This year, we focused on creating unique, short-form video content in different months to celebrate the heritages in Montgomery County. We focused on Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Pride Month and also Ukrainian-owned businesses. A strategic advertising campaign was also developed to push each of these businesses.

UNIQUE MARKETING MOVES:

Our social media team turned these videos into special content on our Tik-Tok channel, highlighting these businesses as hidden gems in Montco.

Our radio partnership with iHeartRadio featured local radio personalities, including legendary Philadelphia Radio host, Patty Jackson, of WDAS, promoting Montco’s small business community.

We partnered with the Philadelphia Phillies to share the Make it Main Street message behind home plate at Citizens Bank Park.

ACHIEVEMENTS: The campaign drove thousands of new users to our website, helped increase our follower count on social media, and significantly increased web page views.

In February and March, the large-scale display featured 15 BIOPC artists who produce their work or have it displayed in one of the County’s art galleries. Arts Walls were also installed at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets and Centre Theater for the Charles L. Blockson Exhibition.

SHOWS: In June, the team welcomed a free, family-friendly theater show, The American Revolution, to Washington Memorial Chapel. The show features seven actors who perform atop a platform elevated two feet off the ground to present a retelling of America’s founding. Visitors from all over the region attended the performance across two-days.

ARTS MONTCO WEEK & JAZZ FEST: The second annual Arts Montco Week returned in September. This week highlights the need to support the arts, culture and entertainment venues in the county.
