As November approaches, volunteers inventory all the art in the gallery—ALL of it! Continued on page 2

The process of each gallery transformation is handled with great care to keep track of all artistic treasures, to protect all the work, to clean the facility and to evoke “ooohs” and “aaahs” with a beautiful display of new work. Kick Off... Pieces of work that have been in the gallery for more than a year are removed from the show space, removed from inventory records and carefully packed for the artists to take home. At about the same time, gallery artists bring in new art work for the upcoming event and holiday season. Once gallery volunteers have the facility cleaned, painted and rearranged, a special group of volunteers with an eye for amazing arrangements of art sets to work to hang and display all the new artwork.

At this point we are almost ready for Members’ Night. The volunteers assisting with reception and theme decoration set to work to arrange the space for members to bring in finger foods and wine to celebrate the gallery’s renewal for another year. And finally, the process isn’t complete without you, our members. The annual gallery renewal process and the Annual Artist Event reach perfection with your particiation. You have celebrated with us, supported our artists, enjoyed classes with us and seen us through for 49 years and we are truly grateful. Please make your plans to join us!

Caught my eye... Linda Wilke has been our Mailing Party Organizer for the last 15 years. That’s a long time to keep a volunteer position and she has done a great job. Not only does she call volunteers a couple of days before the mailing party, she brings food for them to eat and makes coffee–all before 9:30 am. This puts her in the fairly small group of long-time volunteers, all of whom do a great job, and are greatly appreciated for all the work they do. Unfortunately for us, Linda has decided it is time to retire which means we need to find someone to fill her shoes. I hope someone will come forward and offer to take over the job. The Mailing Party gathers every other month and it takes about 2 hours to complete the job. The dates usually fall around the 3rd or 4th week of February, April, June, August, October, and December. Linda has left us with great directions of what she has done to have things all ready for her helpers. Please call me (Caroline at 503-747-7321) if you would like to take on this very important job or if you would like to help with the mailings. Thank you, Linda, for all the work you have done, and for always being so pleasant to work with. We certainly hope you will still be coming around from time to time. —Caroline Dau, Valley Art Board President

Skip Buhler, former Chair of Valley Art’s Educational Committee reported that a few months ago, the committee was excited to receive a very special gift. Member and former VA president, E.J. Baeza gave a gift card worth over $400 from Art Supply Warehouse to the Education committee,

to spend as needed. Deciding it would be beneficial to have easels for future painting classes, the committee used the card to purchase 5 metal easels. The easels are now assembled and ready to use. Thank you so much E.J. for this wonderful gift!

Our thanks go to the September mailing party. Linda Wilke, Bettie Perkins, Marcia Alajoki, Jack Howard, Carol Dean and Mary Welch —we couldn’t do it without you! If you enjoy being part of the “in” team who helps set up the festive food area of AAE or would like to help a few Saturdays a month setting up food for our Featured Artist Receptions, please get in touch with Caroline at 503-747-7321. We love getting to know new helpers and love the new creative thoughts they bring with them.
