Valley Art welcomes artists

Gallery open Mon.–Sat. 11 a.m.–5:30 p.m. and special occasions.

Glennda Short Field, Polly Gottesman, Lyn Jacobs and Simran Gleason. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

Awaken from Winter Bridges on the Willamette River, dried wreaths, and sites along the Columbia River Gorge are the impetus for creation for the featured artists at Valley Art on Main in Forest Grove. Glennda Short Field, Polly Gottesman, Lyn Jacobs and Simran Gleason will offer a varied exploration into art at the gallery in Forest Grove from March 4th through March 30th. Glennda Short Field knows of what she paints when she uses the canvas of the Columbia River Gorge. She calls Corbett home and says that her subjects must “speak to her heart.” After raising four

Valley Art board meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30p.m. These meetings are open to all who might like to attend. Open until 7:30 p.m. on First Wednesdays.

Awaken from winter... a story, and in Glennda’s case, the stories are rich, vivid and connect emotionally with the soul.

Glennda Short Field paints scenes of summer and Gorge goodness.

If you check out the CSA farm websites of Pumpkin Ridge Gardens and La Finquita del Buho (The Little Farm of the Owl), both located in the Helvetia area of Washington County, you will find artwork of a photographic nature. The crops of these two sustainable and organic farms are displayed in stunning images. However, that is not the focus of this description of the work of Polly Gottesman and Lyn Jacobs. Their art is expressed in the dried flower creations composed entirely of grains, flowers and other products from their farms. Whether you use the art created here for decoration or as a food source for backyard birds, it will lighten your load on many a day.

Polly Gottesman and Lyn Jacobs (above) create beautiful dried flower wreaths and grain and seed creations for backyard birds.

He calls it “his slow camera.” Simran Gleason began the practice of taking sketchbook and easel along on trips when he and his father traced, by canoe, Lewis and Clark’s journey along the Missouri River. There aren’t as many pictures, but each one was created with a greater depth, and allowed for greater and clearer memories. Simran hopes to use this show to display “traveling at home’. The afore-mentioned bridges on the Willamette will be joined by Mount Hood landscapes, the fertile richness of the Tualatin Valley, and in what may seem to some an odd juxtaposition, industrial scenes in Portland. His passion for art has included photocollage, Chinese painting, and a ten year journey into music and music composition. He also used some

of his software engineering expertise to explore algorithms that compose music. But, it is “slow camera” that we return to and focus on during this show.

Our Artists will be featured at a Reception at Valley Art in Forest Grove on Saturday, March 14 from 2 to 4 pm. Valley Art is located at 2022 Main St, Forest Grove, OR 97116.

Caught my eye... Valley Art has many committees that keep things going in the gallery. The Display Committee has the important job of keeping the gallery showroom looking fabulous. This committee puts in countless hours of hard work. They rotate the art, change the floor layout, and overall keep the gallery looking

fresh! Because of this committee the gallery always has its freshest face! Another hard working committee is the Office Committee. We have some very dedicated volunteers working hard to keep our business in order. They put in many hours behind the scenes to keep things organized and working smoothly! This is a big THANK YOU to each and every member of these Committees for all your hard work and dedication.

Hey, thanks!!!

Wow are we lucky to have contributors like some of you! Mary Welch, our wonderful bookkeeping volunteer wanted to let the anonymous contributor of the new Epson Workforce wireless printing/copying machine know everyone is smiling wide in the office for this generous donation. The machine copies 2-sides, scans and prints beautifully —which is so much more than we can say for the old relic it replaced. “The office crew is very pleased and thankful!” — Mary Welch Each month there are those who contribute funds, food, pieces of equipment, skills and lots of time to Valley Art. We wouldn’t be here without all of you. Thank you all many times over!

Robert E. “Bob” Richards Jan. 11, 1934 - Feb. 6, 2015 It was with much sadness we announce the passing of Bob Richards on Friday, February 6. “Bob was a great asset to Valley Art and his expertise is going to be greatly missed. During our major renovation project five or six years ago Bob was the Project Leader and he kept us on-budget and on-time. He was also our treasure for several years and gave us insight as to what Valley Art was and was not doing. A real loss for us.”

Caroline’s

Corner We’re off to a great start in 2015 and looking forward to the next artist reception on March 14 as well as the start up of First Wednesdays in Forest Grove. We can always use fingerfood contributions to our gatherings and extra helping hands to pull things together and clean up afterward. We’d love to have you in join with us in the laughter and volunteer work.

Farewell, dear friend

—Jerry Hoerber, VAA Board “He was one of those people—if he could help, he would. “He had a very generous personality.” —Marcia Alajoki, VAA Board “Bob was a great asset to Valley Art. He kept Valley Art running financially; we’re in great fiscal shape.” —Lynne Magner, VAA Board Vice President “Anyone who knew him knew he was fair and friendly—and committed to helping others.” —Pastor Doug Timmons
