Reflections on the Arab Spring Ambassador Christopher R. Hill International Relations Ambassador Christopher R. Hill will discuss the events of civil unrest, protest, and revolution in the Middle East, Africa, and which have come to be known as the Arab Spring. Hill draws on his vast foreign service experience to elucidate the underlying causes of this period of transition and its implications for U.S. domestic and foreign policy, its effect on political stability in the region and its consequences for future U.S. diplomatic relations. Ambassador Christopher R. Hill is currently the University of Denver’s Josef Korbel School of International Studies. A former career diplomat and four-time ambassador nominated by three presidents, his last post was as Ambassador to Iraq from April 2009 through August 2010. Hill received the State Department’s Distinguished Service Award for his contributions as a member of the U.S. negotiating team in the Bosnia peace settlement and was a recipient of the Robert S. Frasure Award for Peace Negotiations for his work on the Kosovo crisis. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Hill served as a Peace Corps volunteer where he supervised credit unions in rural Cameroon, West Africa.
