CKUW 2014 Prep & Fun

Reunited & It Feels So Good On April 27, campers and counselors met up at the Madison Children’s Museum for an afternoon of really being a kid. From climbing structures, to water activities, to shadow room fun, dull moments were few and far between. We were thrilled to see some of our new campers who will attend their first CKUW in 2014. Is it summer yet?!

K

arl and our whole Kesem family are ecstatic for CKUW 2014 and one of the “best” weeklong camp themes: Best of Summer! This summer, we’re heading to our former teen camp overnight site, JCC Rainbow Day Camp, in Fredonia, Wis. JCC will host both weeks of CKUW this summer! We are busy working on camp schedules and some of the remaining logistics for two of the best weeks of summer. We are so excited to again host both our youth and teen camps, as well as our very first Counselor In Training (CIT) Program!

Camp is only a few months away.

We cannot wait for the best summer yet! What are your three favorite things about the sunniest season of the year?

550 Relay for CK

Camp Kesem has been selected as a charity partner for the 550 Marathon Relay. This is the first ever nationwide relay marathon and will be the largest relay ever attempted. Over five days, June 21-25, runners in each of the 50 states will run 26.2 miles in honor of those affected by cancer. As a chapter, CKUW is recruiting runners, and we will receive a portion of the funds each runner we recruit raises. For more information, visit: http://bit.ly/1cnFKLV

Overnight Training

New counselors had their first camp experience at our overnight training this month! We traveled to JCC Rainbow Day Camp to teach everyone the ropes and get in the CKUW spirit. Can you believe that we have more than 60 counselors this summer between the two weeks? It’s unreal!

Magic Was Made - Thank you! Our annual “Make the Magic” fundraising event was held Saturday, April 26 at the Crowne Plaza in Madison. In one night, we raised over $31,500, which is enough to send more than 62 of our campers to camp this summer! It truly was a magical evening as we saw friends reunite and previous strangers join our Kesem family. We could not have done it without the help of our sponsors, attendees, speakers and donors. Special thanks to Rosie & Noodles for their hard work organizing the event. Thank you!! $80,000 -

$31,500 -

MTM 2014 alone raised almost 40% of our overall fundraising goal for camp this year!

CKUW 2014 Theme Days

Theme days were easy to come up with once we established our weeklong theme. We simply brainstormed our favorite parts of summer, and.. Wha-la! We are so excited to see what kinds of whacky costumes our campers and staff create! Sunday: Tourist Day Monday: Fourth of July Tuesday: Beach Day Wednesday: The Olympics (Color Wars)

Buzz, buzz.. What’s that? It’s all the buzz about quizzes that tell you which character you are from Frozen or how much of a 90’s child you are. And, CKUW’s joining the quiz fun!
