Dual Degree Programs

UTSA has partnerships with local and international universities to offer dual degrees. Students can earn a degree at UTSA while concurrently working towards a degree at our partnered institutions. UTSA offers the following dual degree programs:

MBA + MPH at University of Texas School of Public Health

MBA + MD at UT Health San Antonio

MS Artificial Intelligence + MD at UT Health San Antonio

MSIT with a concentration in Cybersecurity + MS Cybersecurity at Tec de Monterrey

ADMISSION Application Requirements

Graduate admission requirements vary by program. Visit future.utsa. edu/programs for information about specific programs. In addition to meeting program requirements, applicants must submit a graduate application along with a nonrefundable application fee ($50 for domestic applicants and $90 for international), unofficial transcripts from your previous institutions and any foreign credential evaluation if applicable.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

In addition to meeting general requirements for admission, applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate sufficient competency in English to study effectively at the university. Applicants are required to submit scores from either the TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo with their application materials.

PAY FOR UTSA Scholarships

Scholarship Hub's General Application

UTSA oversees a range of scholarships that are funded by the university and donors. To be considered, your Admissions Application must be complete, including test scores, transcripts, fees, etc. and you must submit the UTSA Scholarship Hub’s General Application on the UTSA Scholarship Hub by Jan 15.

Even after Jan 15, students are encouraged to visit the Hub often as new scholarship opportunities are added throughout the year.

You can also check with your Program, Department and College regarding program-specific scholarships.

Note: receiving at least a $1,000 competitive scholarship can qualify you for in-state tuition rates if you are an out-of-state student.

Graduate School Fellowship Incentive Program

The Graduate School awards funding to students and their mentors who prepare and submit applications to a variety of approved fellowship opportunities. Learn more about eligibility and guidelines below.

Assistantships

UTSA has a wide range of assistantships available. These include Graduate Assistant (GA), Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) and Teaching Assistant (TA) positions. These are typically 19-hour employment and may include tuition assistance. Check with your College or Department of interest for opportunities.

Fellowships

Fellowships are typically reserved for UTSA doctoral student. These competitive opportunities usually include tuition and fee funds, a stipend and employment as either a GA, GRA or TA. Check with your College or Department of interest for available opportunities.

Professional Development Awards

Graduate School Professional Development (GSPD) Awards provide supplemental support for students to attend major professional meetings at which they make a presentation (paper, poster or other appropriate form of presentation) based on their research or scholarly work. The Graduate School provides these awards to assist academic units to fund student travel for the purpose of presenting research unique to UTSA. Some Colleges also have professional development monies available for graduate students. Check with your department to determine available funds.

UTSA’s research community is strengthened by faculty with recognized expertise in many diverse fields. Our first-class laboratories and research facilities, as well as our status as an R1 institution, places UTSA among the top 4% of research universities in the nation.

Business

Faculty in the Carlos Alvarez College of Business are renowned researchers and high-quality teachers. Their research impacts not only the academic community but is also applicable to many organizations today. Alvarez College faculty members conduct research in a variety of disciplines and have been recognized by their peers for their accomplishments. Faculty research in the college’s seven academic departments is broad and includes such topics as artificial intelligence, audit quality, capital markets, corporate governance, health care management, international economics, marketing strategy and innovation, leadership and monetary policy.

Education and Human Development

The College of Education and Human Development (COEHD) currently houses four centers that promote research and service in the community, including the Academy for Teacher Excellence and the Bank of America Child and Adolescent Policy Research Institute. The centers foster student success through research engagement and experiential learning. COEHD faculty pursue research funding to develop innovative approaches to critical issues in educational practice and problems facing society while leveraging emerging technology and cutting-edge educational pedagogy. Faculty prioritize culturally responsive and socially relevant research, providing students with the opportunity to explore new horizons and strengthen community engagement.

Engineering and Integrated Design

The mission of the Margie and Bill Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design is to promote research as an academic enhancement for UTSA students, build the university’s reputation for research excellence and reach out to industry and government to expand available research funding. The Klesse College currently houses seven research centers and institutes, as well as many industry-leading and cutting-edge technologies and facilities, including a 17,000-square foot Makerspace featuring open collaborative spaces, a machine shop, 3D printers, meeting spaces and more.

Liberal & Fine Arts

Research in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts (COLFA) is as diverse as the college itself, empowering graduate students to follow their passion with guidance from world-class researchers, artists and performers. Faculty and students explore an incredibly wide range of topics such as the interrelationship between ancient societies and their environments, the effects of music on health, the impacts of Latinx literature on contemporary society and more. Research funding comes from federal, state, non-profit and private sources such as the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Mellon Foundation and the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.

Health, Community and Policy

The College for Health, Community and Policy (HCAP) pursues highquality, scientific research to understand social problems and assist in the development of effective solutions to these issues. The college is home to four research centers and institutes: the Center for Applied Community and Policy Research, the Institute for Demographic and Socioeconomic Research, the Institute for Health Disparities Research and the Center for Community Based and Applied Health Research. Each unit serves the community through a unique lens and moves the mission of HCAP forward – to develop solutions for complex social issues to improve the well-being of our community.

The College of Sciences (COS) trains students to become world-class scientists who perform research that can change the world. With over $45 million in research expenditures and over 300 actively funded research projects, COS is a major contributor to the discovery enterprise at UTSA.
