FACILITIES ADMINISTRATION SPOTLIGHT

CAMPUS PROJECTS/DEPARTMENT SPOTLIGHT HVAC EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT Allen Barton, HVAC Superintendent

Facilities management received an email commending two HVAC employees for doing a great job recently. Bobbie Scott, Executive Assistant to Dean Stephen Alway wrote: “I did not want this day to go by without letting you know that two of your employees came to my rescue recently. Tyrone Cordero and Javen Hall were passing through the 920 Madison corridor and saw that a delivery driver had a issue with getting some items to the destination in the 920 building, 5th floor, due to the service elevator being down. I was desperate to find a way to get the items to the proper location. Without hesitation, they both stepped in and provided assistance to the delivery driver. I appreciate the fact that they wanted to help with such a positive, professional and caring attitude. These two young men exemplified teamwork and I wanted say thank you so much to Mr. Cordero and Mr. Hall.” We appreciate the feedback regarding the positive experience and wanted to thank Tyrone and Javen for stepping in to assist. Great job.

NEW GARAGE DOORS INSTALLED

Mike Nelson, Superintendent - Construction Services The Facilities Construction department recently added new garage doors to house their construction materials in the storage areas on the physical plant vehicle lot. The idea was to close in the open spaces for a more secure atmosphere to keep their tools and supplies. Great job to carpenter’s Marlo Washington, Willie Ayers and Paul Stojanovic.

CUSTODIAL EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT Edwin Jeffres, Custodial Superintendent

Custodial Superintendent, Edwin Jeffres, received a letter of gratitude from Jeff Taylor with the Department of Physical Therapy to spotlight custodial foreman, Bertha Jones, for her outstanding efforts. Below is a portion of that letter: “With this message, we would like to let you know how much we appreciate the work Ms. Bertha Jones, Custodian Foreman and her crew performed for us recently. At the start of the week, we placed a work order requesting room# EC013 to be cleaned on Wednesday, October 9. We were having outside guests coming in on that Thursday and we wanted to give a good impression. Additionally, our lab needed more work than anticipated to get it in a “welcoming guests” shape. We communicated our concerns to Ms. Jones and she personally came to the lab to see what was needed and right away, her staff began the cleanup. Before we left on Wednesday, her staff had already cleaned and vacuumed, not just our rooms but also the hall ways leading to the Lab. The hallway was clean and shiny with a new wax coating and the lab floor was clean and shiny as well. We don’t know how she got the night crew to do that work in such short notice, but she did. You may say that Ms. Jones and her crew just did their job, but we feel that they went beyond just doing a good job. They were responsive to our needs and making sure it happened under such tight schedule. In the end, Ms. Jones and her staff not only helped us leave a good impression, but we believe that they contributed for all of the guest leaving with a good impression of UTHSC.” Job Well Done Bertha and team!

WELCOME BACK TO UTHSC LESLIE GRAY Whit Sutton, Energy Manager

Leslie Gray has returned to work for the University after a stint teaching at Moore Tech. Leslie is helping to implement in-house energy conservation work and is beginning in his new role retrofitting LED lighting in the Facilities Physical Plant buildings. Leslie is dedicated to saving the University money through energy conservation and you will begin to see him on campus replacing bulbs or working on other energy conservation devices. Below he is pictured changing florescent lights to LED in the facilities business office. His next project will be in the Johnson/Wittenborg buildings. Welcome back Leslie!

THANK YOU TO THE FACILITIES LOGISTICS TEAM

Pamela Houston, Director, Special Events and Community Affairs Facilities Transfer and Logistics is one of our busiest departments on a daily basis moving materials, supplies, equipment, and furniture, as well as setting up for campus events. Jeff Fields, superintendent and Willie Earl McKinnie, foreman appreciate the efforts of the team and wanted to spotlight them for the great work they do here on the UTHSC campus. Take a look at pictures of movers working behind the scenes. Great job team! Pam Houston shared her gratitude with the facilities management in an email: “Good Morning Jeff. Thank you for all that you and Willie Earl do to support our efforts with such a wonderful attitude. Your guys are by far the best on this campus when it comes to serving with such a pleasant attitude. I specifically appreciate their support during the set up for the all Employee Appreciation recently. It was extremely hot and I recognize smiling and being kind can be challenging in those elements. I have cards for those who helped with the set up in my office. Rather than schedule a luncheon with perhaps some items that some will like and some won’t, we have purchased meals in the form of a gift certificates. This allows them to select what they desire, dine with whom they desire and on whatever day they desire. They are truly impressive young men and a real joy to partner with. Kudos to the logistical team!”
