CITY OF LOVE
Renessa Ghosh This spring I went to Paris with my mom and dad. After landing, we headed outside to get a taxi. Once we got outside we all were astounded by the greenery. There was grass, trees, and even flowers everywhere we looked. Once we got deeper into the famous city of Paris, I noticed that it looked a lot like Kolkata. There were tall buildings, crowded streets and sidewalks and apartment buildings that looked worn and old. There were too many people to count on the streets, some in groups or by themselves, walking, all with different destinations: home, a café, or the grocery store. Once we got to our hotel we checked in, ate a quick dinner in our room of fish and chips with some rice, and went to bed.
The next morning we had to wake up pretty early, at around 7 a.m. We had a tour that day to see the whole city of Paris. We were to leave the hotel at around 8:15 with our tour guide so we could have time to pick up two more families from two different hotels. After picking them up we started our tour. First we saw some historical sites such as Notre Dame (pronounced Noto Dam) the gothic style church which still has masses and Arc de Triumph which is a monument to honor soldiers who fell in war and has a fire burning all day every day in the middle. After that we had a river cruise on the Seine River. We also ate there and saw different monuments. We saw things like the Island of Cygnus where a smaller version of the Statue of Liberty is placed and the outside of the Louvre Museum. We ate a three course meal during the cruise and enjoyed it very much. We had an appetizer, main course and a choice between cheese and dessert, since the French people have three course meals for lunch and dinner. After that we all went to the Eiffel Tower.
