The Department of Residential Life Graduate Assistantship Positions

The Residential Life graduate assistantships are one to two year positions as Resident Fellows (RF’s), Assistant Community Directors (ACD’s), and one position as the Advisor to the Residence Hall Association (RHA). These positions are designed for individuals interested in pursuing careers in the field of student affairs administration including counseling and leadership based programs at either four-year colleges or universities and two-year community colleges.

A Quick Look at the Positions Resident Fellows in Manchester Village work with a floor of sophomore, junior, and senior undergraduate students and/or graduate and law students in a variety of resident supervision, counseling, and programmatic responsibilities. On-call building responsibilities are included in this position. Assistant Community Directors work in a residential area to assist full time staff members in para-professional staff supervision and training as well as programmatic, counseling and development experiences for all residents of that area. On-call campus wide responsibilities are a part of this position. The RHA Advisor acts as a mentor to the Residence Hall Association which is the governing body of undergraduate students living in the residence halls. RHA plans programs for the entire campus, offers customer feedback and recommendations to Residential Life staff, and participate in both regional and national conferences.

Compensation for all positions includes free room and board on campus. These positions are based on the belief that the student affairs professional, in addition to being a specialist in any one of the personnel fields, must also be a generalist with respect to institutions as a whole. Each position can be tailored to individual interests and areas of research. If you are interested in any of these positions contact the Assistant Dean of Students for Residential Life, Dayanne Izmirian, at dizmirian@sandiego.edu.

Residential Life Mission Statement We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive living community and to creating learning opportunities for actively enhancing the growth of the resident as a whole person.
