Batter Up! Ripken Experience Coming To Pigeon Forge Even though it won’t open until next year, we’re so excited about this attraction we simply couldn’t wait to tell you about it. The Ripken Experience will be new to Pigeon Forge in spring 2016 and is sure to be a popular attraction for sports fans and visitors to our Smoky Mountain town. Operated by Hall of Fame baseball player Cal Ripken, Jr., and his brother, 12-year Major League Baseball veteran Bill Ripken. When finished, the facility will consist of six lighted baseball fields with synthetic turf, a lighted synthetic turf training area, batting cages, a 14,137-square-foot, two-level clubhouse and a 2,749-squarefoot concession/restroom building with an adjacent pavilion. Each stadium will resemble an existing or historic ballpark, including Oriole Park at Camden Yards, home of the Baltimore Orioles. Ripken Experience will host world-class youth baseball tournaments nine months of the year and offer year-round branded programming, including events. Historical–Marker Driving Tour While the Pigeon Forge of 2015 is a growing, bustling vacation playground for families, this Smoky Mountain town has a rich history that dates back to the 1700s. Today, you can learn interesting facts about the history of Pigeon Forge by driving to various historical markers placed throughout town. Near the Old Mill, you’ll find a marker that describes how Pigeon Forge got its name and offers information about one of the town’s first businesses.
186 OLD MILL AVE. On Henderson Springs Road, you can read about a popular 1800s resort that was located near a mineral springs. People traveled for miles to fill their buckets with the “special” water that was said to be better than “doctorin’ medicine.”
2301 HENDERSON SPRINGS BLVD. Also near the Old Mill, you can visit the site of the first Pigeon Forge Elementary School and the Pigeon Forge Canning Factory, a booming business in the early 1900s.

Tennessee Trails & Byways The state of Tennessee has developed a series of Trails & Byways to give visitors a unique look at the history of our great state. Two of those are located near Pigeon Forge: Rocky Top and Sunny Side. Brochures on Tennessee Trails & Byways can be found at the Pigeon Forge Welcome Center, located at traffic light #0, and the Information Center, located at Traffic Light #5.

Great Smoky Mountains Great Smoky Mountains National Park is world renowned for its diversity of plant and animal life, the beauty of its mountains and the quality of its historic Southern Appalachian mountain culture. This is America’s most visited national park, and there are a number of ways to experience this national treasure.
Sugarlands Visitor Center Sugarlands Visitor Center is the primary point of information for visitors entering Great Smoky Mountains National Park. At Sugarlands, visitors can view extensive natural history exhibits and a free 20-minute film about Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Wheelchair Accessible Trail Sugarlands Valley Trail is a wheelchair accessible trail, located near Sugarlands Visitor Center. This is the only trail in the park that is easy for persons in a wheelchair to traverse physically challenged persons will enjoy this chance to explore the Smokies away from the roads. The entire path is paved and nearly level. As a self-guiding nature trail, it has numbered features along the way; an interpretive leaflet (50¢ to keep) is available at the trail.
Hiking Trails Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned hiker, the park has something for all levels of expertise. Some favorite trails include: Laurel Falls Trail – The scenic payoff of this 2.6-mile paved trail is at 1.3 miles, when you view the 80-foot-high Laurel Falls. Chimney Tops Trail – This popular trail is a steep, four-mile round-trip hike that features beautiful rock steps. It is known for the outstanding panoramic views at its peak. Clingmans Dome – At 6,643 feet, Clingmans Dome is the highest point in Tennessee. A seven-mile drive on Clingmans Dome Road takes you to a parking area, and from there it’s a 1/2-mile, steep, paved trail to the observation tower. From the tower, you can see for 100 miles on a clear day.

Wildlife Great Smoky Mountains National Park is home to more than 400 species of animals, including an estimated 1,500 American black bears. Some of the best bear-watching opportunities can be found on a drive along Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail or Cades Cove Loop Road. Be sure to view any wildlife from a safe distance.
Junior Ranger Program Kids age 5-12 can become Junior Rangers through a special program offered at our national parks. Pick up a booklet ($2.50 at any ranger station) and complete the activities to earn your Junior Ranger badge.

Historic Landscapes There are a number of historic sites and locales in the park, including Newfound Gap. This is the place where President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the national park in 1934. Cades Cove is a lesson in history, where visitors can view cabins, barns, mills, stores and other buildings used by the people who lived on the land that became America’s most visited national park.
Horseback Riding Guided horseback rides are available at four riding stables from mid-March through late November. Scenic trail rides can last from 45 minutes to several hours.
Bicycling While there are no designated bicycling trails in the national park, Cades Cove Loop Road is an exceptional place for cyclers. The 11-mile, one-way road offers wildlife viewing and tours of 19th century homesteads. On Wednesday and Saturday, 6-10 a.m., Cades Cove Loop Road is open to bicyclists only.
Driving Most people enjoy the park from their vehicles. Check out the Cades Cove Loop Road and Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. It’s the perfect place to slow down and enjoy nature’s beauty and historic buildings found in the area.
MORE TO KNOW While cell phone signals are readily available in Pigeon Forge, they can be difficult to find in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Drop A Line
Whether you fish for relaxation or sport, whether you’re a novice or seasoned pro, you’ll find some of the best places to drop a line here in East Tennessee. In addition to waters inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park, you’ll find outstanding fishing opportunities along the Little Pigeon River and at Douglas Lake, just a few miles northeast of Pigeon Forge. Wherever you choose to test your skills, if you take or attempt to take fish (including crayfish) by any method or assist anyone else to do so, you will need a valid Tennessee Fishing License. Fishing licenses are available for purchase at the businesses located on the following page.
EXEMPTIONS ARE THE FOLLOWING: • If you are under 13 years of age (resident or non-resident)
in Tennessee or in North Carolina. • You are on military leave, carrying copy of your leave orders.
A pass does not meet this requirement. • You are a resident of Tennessee, born before March 1, 1926.

The Exhibit Hall alone can hold more than 10,000 people, while allowing space for vendors. The Multi-Purpose Rooms are smaller but allow plenty of space for break-out sessions or other gatherings. Other features that help to make the event facilities unique are the lobbies, concourse, catering and concession service, registration and pre-function space that are available. The loading dock and 1,600 adjacent parking spaces were designed to allow for even more convince during your convention at the LeConte Center. The lot is built with permeable pavement, which prevents runoff by allowing rainwater to soak through to the ground. Save fuel by parking in the lot and riding the Pigeon Forge Fun Time Trolley to points throughout the city. The parking lot also allows direct access to the Greenway pedestrian trails. Enjoy the quite walk, bike, or run through a variety of terrain. There are numerous benches along the trail for those who wish to sit and enjoy the scenery.
