Welcome and overview Welcome to the Lowcountry of South Carolina, USCB and the home of the Sand Sharks. We are very pleased that you have joined us to support NAIA softball and one of the teams playing in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. The University of South Carolina Beaufort is honored to host this opening round tournament in collaboration with the City of Hardeeville. The citizens, professional staff and City Council members have been so supportive of USCB Athletics by hosting USCB Baseball at the Richard Gray Sports Complex for the past seven years and USCB Softball for the past four seasons. During this tournament, you will be the beneficiary of their warm hospitality. We thank them for their continued support and for their collaboration to host this opening round tournament. The many faculty, staff, student and community volunteers are here to make your spectator and/or playing experience the best that it can be. So, if we can provide you with information or support, please ask. We will do our best to help. Enjoy your time here and come back to see us soon. Sincerely, Jane T. Upshaw, PhD Chancellor USCB

he USC Beaufort Bracket of the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round figures to provide an exciting three days of action on the diamond. BE A HERO like Jason Boulais

otehrscommon?commone!

You can join the registry at the May 14 2015 NAIA Softball World Series opening round – Richard Gray 2:30pm – 4:30pm Sports Complex (Hardeeville) May 11 2015 11AM – 3PM First Baptist School

OR

48 Meeting Street

This is Jason Boulais. Jason is a pitcher on the University of South Carolina Beaufort baseball team. Jason joined the Be The Match registry while on campus in the fall of 2014. He was recently selected as a perfect marrow donor for a 5 year old little boy overseas who is battling a blood cancer/blood disease. He will be donating in early May in Washington DC. "I love baseball," Boulais said, "but knowing I get to give someone a second chance at life is much more important." You have the same chance to save a life by joining the Be The Match registry. Joining is easy. Paperwork and a cheek swab are all it takes to determine if you could save a life. You are only called to donate cells if you come up as a match for a patient. To join the Be The Match registry, you must: 1. Be between the ages of 18 and 44 2. Be in general good health 3. Be willing to donate to any patient you may match The donation process:  75% of the time, patients need a stem cell donation, which is similar to donating blood or platelets.  25% of the time, patients need marrow cells, which the doctor draws from your hipbone using a needle. You will be under general anesthesia and will receive pain medication post procedure

Join Online @ Charleston SC 29401 join.bethematch.org/sc Patients need a matching tissue type, not a Ashley Collier matching blood type. So patients are more likely to acollier@nmdp.org match someone of their same ethnic background

803-543-9034

Once you join, there is a 1 in 70,000 chance you will ever be called as a possible match to donate cells. Financial donations to help support patients & Be The Match can be made online @: http://bethematchfoundation.org/bethematchsc

http://bethematchfoundation.org/

Quote from a recent marrow donor- "Everyone is goto/bethematchsc the love of someone's life whether they are 1 month old or 100 years old. I donated because no one should lose the love of their life because they don't have a match." Contact Info: Ashley Collier, Be The Match acollier@nmdp.org/ 803-543-9034

Discover the lowcountry Welcome to the beautiful South Carolina Lowcountry, an area rich with history and bursting with natural beauty. After a few days here, we’re sure you’ll understand why we choose to call this area home and why more than 2 million visitors flock here annually. USCB’s Hilton Head Gateway Campus in Bluffton and the Richard Gray Sports Complex in Hardeeville rest at the heart of the Lowcountry, just a few minutes from world-famous Hilton Head Island and the historic Southern charm of Beaufort, S.C., and Savannah, Ga. With 40 golf courses and more than 300 tennis courts in the area, the Lowcountry is a mecca for casual athletes. The area has become almost synonymous with golf, with the image of the Harbour Town lighthouse and the RBC Heritage serving as a symbol for golf in South Carolina. For those seeking something more adventurous, opportunities for biking, kayaking, sailing, surfing, scuba diving, parasailing, windsurfing and waterskiing abound. There’s no shortage of family fun in the Lowcountry — in fact, that’s what makes the area so popular as a tourist destination. We have something for everyone in the family — from toddler to grandma and grandpa — ranging from fishing and crabbing, horseback riding, nature-based tours, miniature golf, playgrounds, swimming pools, dolphin-watching cruises, historic tours, Gullah heritage tours, hayrides, arts and cultural activities, shopping, fine dining and sightseeing. We know you won’t be able to do everything while you’re here this week, so be sure to come back and see us soon — and often. Enjoy your stay!

university of south carolina beaufort The University of South Carolina Beaufort is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the nation. Its lineage dates back to the original 1795 charter of Beaufort College. In 1959, by another official act, the South Carolina Legislature created the Beaufort campus of the University of South Carolina on the original site of historic Beaufort College and authorized it to offer the same courses taught at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. In 1994, USCB embarked on a major expansion program. International Paper, a global leader in the paper and packaging industry, donated 80 acres of land to build an additional full-service campus for the university in Bluffton, the region’s fastest growing area. The county government agreed to finance construction of the campus if the university would designate it as a four-year institution of higher learning. When the state approved its new, four-year status, construction began. In June 2002, the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education granted USCB baccalaureate status. In 2004, it was accredited as a Level II baccalaureate degree-granting university. Today, South Carolina’s newest four-year university offers baccalaureate degrees, access to USC’s Extended Graduate Campus classes, and degrees and a wide variety of continuing-education programs at its two full-service campuses — the Historic Beaufort Campus and the Hilton Head Gateway Campus.
