In 1962, it sha red the titl e with Wes t Philadelphia High. The Ma rch 10 meet saw the selecti on of indi vi dual gy mnasti c champion s in demon路 stration s on mats, the horse, parallel bars, rings and horizonta l bars. Twelve boys co mp eted for th e all-around titl es before the winne rs we re nam ed. William Braverman, Overbrook High Coach, was in charge of the League. He said the Philadelphia Publi c Hi gh Leag ue had developed such Olympi c and college champions as Chet Philli ps, Lou Bordo, Bill Bonsall, Ja y Wern er, George Szyp ula , Bob Trout and J oel Baba. Last year's all-around champi on, Steve Cohen, is now attendin g P enn S ta te University. The League was form ed in 1923. Each hi gh school is permitted to enter 15 boys in dual mee t competition and 12 for triangu lar mee ts.
NORTH SECTION CIF FINALS The Yreka Hi gh School gym nastic team, coached by Edw in Loudon, captured five of nin e first places in the north section of the CIF gy mnastic fin als here Saturday ni ght, March 6. It was the fir st time tha t a CIF section in the northern half of Ca lif orn ia ever held a gy mna sti c final. There are 52 hi gh schools in the north section CIF, and although many of th em did not send representatives, it was a very fin e meet. They will get bi gger each year. Each school was allowed to send up to three parti cipants in each event and in all th ere were abo ut 40 entries. There was no team scorin g, this bein g for the individual parti cipant on ly. Medal s were awarded the first fi ve indi vi du als in each even t. Gym nastics is gettin g stron ger each year in north ern Californ ia by th e fin e efforts of such coaches as Bill Wilbur of Eureka ; Chuck Endres of Enterprise; Denni s Giuntini of Del lorte; and oth ers. T he victory stand was contin uall y fill ed with three names, and when the meet was co mpl eted, Geo rge Greenfi eld of Muir emerged with th e hi gh point trophy accumulatin g 17 poin ts; foll owed closely by the steady performance of Bruce Coulter of Gan esha wi th 16 points, and Craig Di ckson of Baldwin Park with 15 po ints. Both George and Cra ig will be back next 路 year to resum e th eir duel for hi gh point honors. Exce ptionally good non-winnin g routines were given by S.
