Gen. Luna flyover to rise by April By RAY ADRIAN MACALALAG

ILOILO City will now have not just one but two flyovers this year. A new flyover is currently being constructed in the Jalandoni-General Luna Intersection to ease up the building population of vehicles in Iloilo City. This is a national project brought about in cooperation with the Presidential Bridge Program Office, the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) – Regional Office VI, and the Iloilo City Government. The flyover will occupy a length of 282 meters while the actual structure will be occupying 195 meters. It will appear similar to the Infante flyover in front of the University of the Philippines – Visayas (UPV). According to Engr. Rolando Asis, the Regional Director of the DPWH – Regional Office VI, the total budget for the flyover is PhP 386.6 million. The budget came from a soft-loan ( with zero percent-interest) from the French government. The construction will be supplied and supervised by Matière, a French contracting company. Stunted construction “The flyover was planned last 2008 pa. It was supposed to be constructed by September of 2009 and finished on January 2010 in time with the Dinagyang Festival so that it would not cause disturbances. However, due to some circumstances like the transfer of utility ports and repair of drainage systems in the city, the construction was stunted. “ We j u s t s t a r t e d l a s t December 22, 2009 in constructing. It is projected that the flyover will be finished by June 22, 2010 but according to Director Emil Saddain, head of the Presidential Bridge Program, it will be completed in four months. So hopefully by April 2010, it will be finished.” Asis said in an interview with The Augustinian. Indicator of progress Necessary preparations were done in order to give way for the new flyover. Trees were chopped down and plants were uprooted from the road dividers. The sidewalks were modified to widen the road at the bottom of the currently-constructed flyover. “I was feeling bad about the trees that were cut down, as well

Christmas gift for the College “I am overwhelmed with the results after the rigorous preparation from July 2009 until we mailed the pertaining documents to PAASCU last August 28. The Lord has really made me realize that I have much to be thankful for,” CoEd Dean Alex Facinabao stressed. “It is a Christmas gift not for me but for the whole College. Bringing back the Level III status is the greatest achievement we’ve got, since this is my first deanship. It was really a challenge for me.” Established in 1977, FAAP is
