The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) presented plans to Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) pertaining to the redevelopment of its properties, in particular the Ocho Rios Shopping Centre and Main Street late 2013. Subsequent to that presentation funding was secured from the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) and the Port Authority of Jamaica (PAJ) for a small but significant part of the town’s redevelopment – The Turtle River Project. Therefore, this project is a partnership among TEF, PAJ and the UDC in which the UDC’s main role is to produce the detail designs and overall project management. Turtle River Road Project is divided into three Phases Phase 1 o Turtle River Road, Cruise Ship Terminal and facilities Phase 2 o Main Street to Ocho Rios Commercial Centre parking lot Phase 3 o Link to promenade o Promenade

improvement to Turtle River Road to create a more pedestrian friendly environment improvement to the parking area to make the passengers dispatch process a more efficient and pleasant experience renovation of the Ocho Rios Cruise Ship terminal building improving the aesthetics of finger pier from the berth to the terminal building
As outlined above Phase 1 has four parts, the first of which - Turtle River Road, is being implemented by Surrey Paving and should be completed by March 2014. The remaining sections have all been tendered and are at various stages of approval. All works relevant to Phase 1(all four sections) is scheduled to be completed by June 2014.
