The historic city center of Santiago de los Caballeros is affected by urban phenomena such as decreasing population and a shortage of activities. It is declining due to a rapid, uncoordinated urban growth at the periphery. As a result the city center is tumbling down, monuments are deteriorating, buildings are vacant and during the night the streets and public spaces are considered dangerous. The aim of the project was to find out about its inhabitants urban imaginary and create incubators to reanimate the city center. An incremental strategy for a rehabilitation of the sector was developed. By implementing the participatory methodology of the Urban Design Laboratory for a period of three months, the program has generated a proposal for an integral urbanistic revitalization of the historic city center of Santiago.
