The Upper Perkiomen Valley Street Map & Resource Guide is now available! We’re delighted to announce the release of the first map of the Upper Perkiomen Valley in nearly twenty years. With easy access to GPS, it may seem surprising that we frequently have visitors and residents stop in the UPV Chamber office asking for a printed local map; but it was those requests that inspired the project. In addition to featuring new roads, points of interest, parks and schools, this new map provides high profile advertising for members. Copies are being distributed to advertisers and local schools. Stop by the UPV Chamber for your personal copy. View the online map from www.upvchamber.org under Explore Our Area > UPV Map. Thank you to all our participating advertisers who helped make this project a success and Atlantic Communications Group! We hope you enjoy the online version.

UPVCC News & Notes Happy New Year! We appreciate your support in 2018 and look forward to working with you as we step into the New Year. This issue of The Chamber Exchange was designed to help you make the most of your UPV Chamber membership with an overview of the 2019 schedule and marketing prospects. As you read the newsletter, look for ways to connect with potential clients, improve a skill set, market your business to members and take advantage of Chamber networking to build relationships. I’ve noted a few highlights below:

The 2019 schedule includes three functions sponsored by the Legislative Affairs Council, each featuring a different level of government representation. The UPV Chamber doesn’t endorse candidates or lobby for legislation but we cultivate relationships with our elected officials by inviting them to events in January, May and August. We begin at The Loft at Sweet Water with the Montgomery County Commissioners for our January luncheon.

Two engaging seminar presenters are returning in February and March: Ken Byler, Making the Most of Workplace Relationships – DiSC training; and Kristin Kane, Instagram for Business.

With Explore Local Business as the theme, the Community & Business Expo takes on several new components including a career fair for high school students, a job fair for participating businesses, food trucks and separate seating for eating. We encourage businesses to demo new products, display items for sale, recruit employees for open positions and get creative with their expo displays. (Registration info enclosed.)

The best way to make the most of your membership is to get involved. If you want more information about any event, activity or committee, give us a call and we’ll help you prioritize your involvement.

Before closing, we should send off 2018 with a round of applause for publishing the first community map in twenty years, completing the largest multi-municipal, gateway and wayfinding sign program in the Commonwealth and for the highest overall event attendance records in three years. As we wrapped up 2018, the UPV Chamber Board elected directors for 2019-2021 terms and officers for 2019 (below), in addition to approving a budget for 2019. Help us welcome new board member, Michelle Forsell. We move confidently into a new year after board workshop discussions that included ideas for engaging members, increasing referrals, adding value to events and mixing up venues. This newsletter reflects many of those ideas so let us know what you think. And finally, we thank The Globe Inn for hosting the UPV Chamber annual meeting and treating the Board to an early morning breakfast. All the best in 2019!

PerkUp “Pathways to Success” 2019 Business Tours for High School Students The Pathways to Success Program is a PerkUp education initiative that introduces high school students to career opportunities. One component of the program includes tours of local businesses. The tours include an overview of the business with a focus on the different types of jobs, employment expectations, benefits, career ladder considerations and education/training requirements for different positions. This valuable experience provides firsthand exposure to career possibilities in various business sectors. Students are encouraged to research the businesses beforehand and prepare questions for the visit. In addition to learning about the local job market, students have learned about the diversity of businesses in their community. For example, many were surprised to learn that several local companies import and export internationally, while others serve a targeted market. The facility tours began as a pilot program five years ago with approximately twenty students. Last year, the Pathways to Success program, sponsored by Verizon, included over 250 students touring fourteen businesses: Artisan Display, Inc., Bless Precision Tool, Inc., Blommer Chocolate Company, Bracalente Manufacturing Group, Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network, Knoll Inc., Midgard Inc., Perkiomen Animal Hospital, QNB Bank, Shea+Latone Inc., St. Luke’s University Health Network - Quakertown Campus, Stauffer Glove & Safety, US Tape Company, and Walmart Supercenter. If you are interested in being a part of this growing program by hosting a tour in 2019, please contact PerkUp Project Coordinator, Michele Fillippo, at the Chamber office.
