Weekly Newsletter Spring 2019 Week 5 Our SUPA Committee began the week informing us all about the need to look after world. We are so impressed with the girls’ commitment and enthusiasm towards making a difference. Upton is moving closer to being single-use plastic free, removing one item of single-use plastic a month. The Committees are looking forward to their Assembly next Monday, 11th February, to which parents are warmly invited. Thank you Mrs Ward for your enthusiasm and guidance with this project. Our focus during this Children’s Mental Health Week has been talking to the children about keeping their bodies and minds healthy and happy. It is appropriate that safer internet day fell at the same time; as a link to Children’s Mental Health week we have been reminding the children that we need to use the internet positively, safely and in ways which will make us happy. We held an informative session this morning for parents on wellbeing and mental health, thank you Mrs Newcombe and Mrs Hewitt. Form 5 certainly used their minds on Thursday at the Marist Maths Challenge. What an incredible result girls—Upton were the maths champions. Following on from our information meeting about Senior Schools on Wednesday evening we will be holding a scholarship session after half term. This will inform parents as to what is required if you are considering your daughter applying for a sports, art, music, drama, all-round or academic scholarship. Date to follow. A number of parents asked when we would be holding a similar senior school evening for parents of boys—this will take place on Wednesday 27th March at 7.30pm. We are also inviting the Heads of Senior Schools to visit and hold a senior school forum at Upton—we are just finalising dates. Thank you Form 5 for an inspirational and entertaining Assembly on Thursday, thoroughly enjoyed by all. Form 5 went back in time to innovations past. How many of us remember decimalisation and vinyl records? How much easier has the doughnut machine made life? Dolly the sheep, so clever and last but not least Facebook, linking millions of people around the world. Will one of these girls be the next innovator? Our Head Girl, Annie and Deputy Head Girl, Imogen are currently organising a Careers Fair for 29th March. If you would like to volunteer to come and talk to the girls that afternoon about your profession or vocation please email rachelatkins@uptonhouse.org.uk as soon as possible. We are very much looking forward to the House Music Competition next Friday. It has been wonderful hearing the girls singing and practicing around school; we know they take this very seriously and it is an important and exciting day in the Upton calendar. We are delighted that Farnborough Hill are spending the afternoon with us performing. Wishing you all a lovely weekend. Rhian Thornton Wellbeing Tip of the Week - One step at a time is good walking
