Weekly Newsletter Spring 2019 Week 1 Happy new year from all at Upton. I do hope you had a very peaceful and restful Christmas break. It does seem to have been a year when people were looking forward to a quieter time for a short spell. At Upton we are certainly rested and looking forward to the term ahead. The diary outlines the weekly events, and I am sure you can see it certainly is not a quiet term. Our theme for assembly is Innovation. This week we began assembly by thinking about the most significant, incredible and innovative object ever created - the human brain. Challenging our thinking, developing new ideas and looking after our brain are themes for this term. Sleep and water are of course crucial and, on that note, can I please ask that every child has their Upton House water bottle in school daily. These are BPA free and safe. The children can re-fill them throughout the day. They are vital for matches and sport. We are aiming to be Single Use Plastic free as soon as possible, and I am sure you will notice many differences as we go through the term. Please can we ask that the children in Prep do not bring in their own variety of water bottles. We had quite a selection in school today. From Monday, Extended Day (Tea) will end at 6pm. A number of parents have asked if this could be possible as 5.45pm can be difficult with work commitments and train times. Mrs Sutherland and a member of the Senior Leadership Team will now conclude tea at 6pm. Please can we ask that parents do not collect after 6pm. The logo on the sports uniform is in the process of being updated. We are not changing the uniform, just the logo. Billings and Edmonds will be able to give guidance where needed. Well done to Form 6 who are working incredibly hard during this term for senior school assessments. We are very proud of you girls. Next week we look forward to the Specialist Afternoons for Form 1 and 2, and the start of clubs and activities for this term. An exciting and busy term ahead. Mrs Rhian Thornton Mrs Thornton joins Nursery each Thursday morning for their Assembly; this week she read a favourite children’s story
PTA News
The Tiger Who Came to Tea.
Mrs Thornton was interviewed on BBC Radio Berkshire over the holidays, talking about the events in Windsor last year including the launch of the Windsor Monopoly board and the Royal Weddings. They went on to talk about Upton’s plans for 2019 and our continuing involvement in the Windsor community. Mrs Thornton was delighted to have an opportunity to thank those who have helped Upton throughout the year.
The PTA is really looking forward to another term of exciting events. All events and dates will be listed in next week’s newsletter and a flyer will be coming home in pupils’ book bags. We are always looking for anyone with any time or skills to help us in any way. If you can spare us any time then please do speak to your Class Rep. PTA Committee
Charity Update Thank you for all of your generosity, help and support last term. We know we asked a lot of you and we were really happy that we raised £304.46 for Children in Need and £595.42 for WaterAid. We also provided over 200 meals for the Slough FoodBank and filled 7 boxes with Christmas treats for Windsor FoodShare. This term we will be raising money to sponsor the polar bear so please start to save your loose change (details to follow shortly). Form 6 will also be choosing three charities to support from monies to be raised at our House Sales and Beetle Drive later this term. Thank you again.
