Weekly Newsletter Autumn 2019 Week 11 It was Friendship Day on Monday and linked to this, two of our Form 4 pupils prepared and led a wonderful Assembly all about kindness. Thank you girls for your hard work and enthusiasm.

PTA News

Form 5 were at Newland House in Twickenham last Saturday morning for a netball tournament where they played well and achieved 5th place.

Congratulations to all and to Lily who was awarded Player of the Day! Form 6 were out on Thursday visiting the Watts Art Gallery. The girls were able to be really hands-on, making angel sculptures and reenacting a Greek-scene painting by one of the founders, George Watts.

The Prep girls have been rehearsing very hard for next week’s House Gym Competition. As a new addition to the calendar, Prep parents are in for a treat next Wednesday at 6.30pm.

With the PTA Christmas Party on Saturday 7th December fast approaching, it’s time to start collecting for your class hampers. Please would you bring in suitably festive luxury items and leave them in the designated place in your child’s classroom. Due to allergies, please ensure that there are no products with NUTS or SEEDS. We will be collecting until the end of the day on Thursday 5th December after which they will be taken away for wrapping.

For a chance to win one of these wonderful hampers, we will be sending raffle tickets home soon in the children’s book bags so please keep an eye out!

There will be one hamper per class (two for Nursery— one for Mrs Bish’s group and one for Mrs Phelan’s) and one for Pre-Nursery.

And remember …. there is a private cinema night up for grabs for the class that creates the most enticing one so may the best Hamper win!

The SUPA-DROPS have been talking about carbon offsetting. If you are worried about your carbon footprint or would like to know about off-setting, we have a special speaker from N0CO2 coming to Upton to tell us what we can do. A Greener Christmas One of the main themes raised by staff, pupils and parents when thinking about A Greener Christmas is the wrapping of presents. Here are some ideas:  Use gift bags or boxes that can be recycled or re-used  Be creative with your wrapping paper – use pages from magazines or newspapers tied with ribbons (re-usable!)  Make tags from last year’s Christmas cards  Create a present decorating box that can be used for all celebrations and contains ribbons, bells and bows etc. that can be mixed and matched then re-used  Make your own bows from cards or re-cycled paper  Use shredded paper for protecting delicate gifts  Collect different fabrics that can be used time and time again to wrap gifts  Make a gingerbread or salt dough tag and use icing for the name  Ask the children to draw ribbons onto presents  Make a trimming from a sprig of winter greenery, rosemary, a pine cone or holly There are some great pictures on stylist.co.uk (green Christmas gift wrapping ideas).

Don’t be afraid to try new things.

They aren’t all going to work, but when you find one that does, you’re going to be so proud of yourself for trying.
