he country is slowly moving towards rebuilding our lives and the life after covid19 era. Now as things are starting to back to normal, a lot of people have seen life in a different light. The loss of life during covid19 era, the KZN-Gauteng uprising and the KZN floods made sure that our lives will never be the same. Who is Sizwe Mncube I am just a normal guy; I was born and bred in Mpangeni a rural place in the Northern of KwaZulu Natal in a place called KwaDlangezwa, eMatholonjeni region. I started my education in a school called Insiwa Primary School and further went on to complete my matriculation at Umntonokudla Secondary. After that I went to Durban to further my studies ar Regent College to study for a Diploma in Health Service Management. After I discovered that this was not my thing, I then went to eThekwini Coastal College to study for Electrical Engineering up to N3. I also notice that this was not my scene, I went into fashion.

Life in Mpangeni…

The funny thing about being at Mpangeni I never thought there was anything odd about my surrounding.

My grandmother made sure that I get everything I want and was raised in a family that was full of love and care.

I must say she was very strict though. But at that point in time because I didn’t know anything better, Mpangeni was a best place for me.

Any childhood memories As I have mentioned above. I had a very fulfilling life and my step mother made sure that I get all the love there is in the world but the difficult part for me was to grow up without the love of my biological parents, both of them.

But the part of my being was due to my step mother who played an important role in my life and made sure that she introduced me to Christ. I still have fond memories going out to youth camps and church activities. I must say I had a very fulfilling childhood.You keep on mentioning your step mother, is she proud of whom you have become?

Unfortunately she passed away last year and that left a whole in my life because she passed away in the midst of covid19 era and as a result I could not mourn or prepare a befitting send off for her.

So how did you get into fashion?

I always wanted to do fashion from the young age but there was a misconception in the Black communities especially. That a fashion designer is a seamstress, that is good to mend clothes. But when I saw David Tlale’s Legit campaign I was inspired and was even more determined to get into the space of fashion designing. But biggest break started when I was working at KYD (Kwazulu-Natal Young Designers store), I met the outstanding and seasoned designers in KwaZulu Natal, in 22

I am still a young designer, I have a lot of things that I would like to achieve and more seasoned designers that I want to meet. After I have established myself in Durban, I would like to infiltrate the Joburg market, perhaps go on a global stage.

A week after the DSTV Mzansi Viewer’s Choice Awards another extravagance annual event happened in Durban, KwaZulu Natal.

Durban July came with a new sponsor this year, Hollywood Bet. If there is anything about Durban July, is that it’s an eventful weekend. I saw a gig from one artist; he had about 15 gigs over that weekend!

Fashionistas were ready and entrepreneurs were also ready for the first Durban July weekend after 2 years. The theme this year was, “show me the honey”…and the honey we saw. Sithelo Shozi’s dress left us breathing through the wound and Mrs Madida was stunning as usual. Here are some of the pictures and the interpretation of the theme.

One of the highlights of the night was the handover of the Mutlichoice Enriching Lives award, which went to Amahle Vikwani, recognising his efforts as a community builder. Vikwane received a cash prize of R150 000 and a brand new car from Kia, while Mohau Mmolawa received R50 000 for his nomination.

The most fascinating thing is that Giveon has done a lot without having an album of his own…until now. The 15 track Give or Take doubles down on the contemplative romanticism that has made him such an appealing addition to this generation’s pop culture. His album Give or Take is framed like a conversation between him and his mother. That structure helps the album feel grounded. Giveon’s mother knows him too well for him to touch his insecurities in wild boasts or evasive platitude, she also caring enough not to berate him for any missteps he might make.

When we heard that Black Coffee was a part of this project we were over excited as South Africans. This breezy dance album sounded like a good concept. Without a doubt, The funny thing he sang this song like a man in love but the Drake’s songwritting hits a particular spot for his fans, howevlyrics of the song are on the opposite end of what we saw. It er in recent years, Drake’s growing desire to be in on the joke is for this reason that I decided to do a review about Giveon’s has made his writing way less exciting. The (rightfully) selfproclaimed King of Amapiano has since created his own record label, Piano Hub and has artists like Young Stunna, Mdu aka TRP and have since blossomed in the music industry.

Launched last year, the Huawei P50 Pro was a bit of an odd one. A photography powerhouse, it benefited from a quartet of capable cameras with plenty of megapixels between them – including a periscope lens which offered a stellar 200x digital zoom. Trouble was, on-going trade restrictions meant the flagship took an age to make it out of China.

With a classy design, solid performance and vibrant primary camera, the OnePlus Nord 2 was one of our favourite mid-range Android mobiles last year. And if you’re looking for a more affordable flagship alternative in 2022, there’s good news: its successor is set to arrive this summer.

Google’s Pixel 6 saw the search giant return to making genuine flagships, after its predecessor’s mid-tier detour.

And following an official teaser at Google I/O 2022, the Pixel 7 looks set to follow suit.

Will its successor fair any better? Only time will tell. The Huawei P60 Pro and Pro Plus are expected to arrive in the middle of 2022, with recent rumours indicating a September release date. Based on the evolution of previous Pro mobiles, the P60 Pro will probably pack some properly powerful camera kit, plus a sizeable fullscreen experience.

But little is known about firm specs for the P60 Pro, let alone when – or if – it will ever make it to Blighty (or beyond).

Unlike the pre-announced 10 Pro, OnePlus hasn’t officially confirmed the Nord 2T’s specs, look or release date. But if the previous two generations are anything to go by, we’d expect to see the Nord 2T hit shelves in June or July.

Radical upgrades are unlikely: leaks indicate that the Nord 2T will ship with the same 6.43in OLED display as its predecessor. Instead, we’d expect minor improvements, including slightly faster silicon and speedier charging.

The jury’s out on whether we’ll also see camera enhancements or any design tweaks.

That same rumour also indicates that the OnePlus Nord 2T will stick with the 4500mAh battery capacity of the Nord 2 before it. Given that staying power was one of the few limitations we encountered with the Nord 2, here’s hoping OnePlus will implement

STEP 1 Check the fish for bones and, if needed, remove with tweezers. To make the cure, put the lemongrass, 125g sugar, the salt, lime juice, zest of 1 lime, 1 tbsp rice vinegar, 1 garlic clove, the coriander and half of the dill, including stems, into a food processor. Blitz until the lemongrass is finely chopped, then stir in a quarter of the sliced chillies.

STEP 2 Cross two large pieces of cling film in a roasting tin and spoon on a third of the cure, then top with the fish. Cover the fish with the rest of the cure. Wrap tightly and leave for 36-48 hrs, then scrape off the cure, rinse the fish in cold water and pat dry. The fillet will feel firm.

STEP 3 On the day of serving, start the other elements of the recipe.

Shave the turnips into very thin slices using a mandoline, then plunge them into iced water with a dash of the vinegar. Leave for an hour, then drain well. Thinly slice the onion and mix with the turnip slices, 2 tbsp vinegar, 2 tsp sugar and a pinch of salt. Cover and steep for at least 1 hr, or chill for a few hrs.

STEP 4

Ingredients 550g salmon fillet , skin on 2 sticks lemongrass , roughly chopped 125g caster or granulated sugar , plus 2 tsp and another 2 tbsp 150g coarse sea salt 2 limes , zested, 1 juiced

Finely chop the remaining dill leaves and stir most of them into the crème fraîche with the remaining lime zest and a little seasoning, then chill.

STEP 5 For the dressing, stir together the remaining 2 tbsp sugar, 2 tbsp vinegar, another quarter of the sliced chillies and the crushed garlic and leave until the sugar dissolves.

STEP 6

5 tbsp Japanese rice vinegar , plus a dash 2 garlic cloves , crushed small bunch coriander (half of 28g pack)

Slice the fish into approx 20 slices, taking the knife down to the skin, then easing the blade underneath each piece to remove it.

It’s not too far from Johannesburg, and its location along the scenic Highlands Route will allow for plenty of beautiful views.

Lots of interesting little galleries and restaurants, with spectacular scenery, all around make Clarens a great batterycharging weekend getaway.

4. Langebaan Lagoon, Western Cape About an hour and a half’s drive north of Cape Town, Langebaan’s lagoon is a treasure if just for its warm water (a great boon along SA’s west coast, which is more known for its icy ocean temperatures). The lagoon possesses sheltered, gorgeous white sand beaches, beautiful rock formations, and swim-friendly shallow waters.

During flower season in August-September, it can be busy, as the reserve erupts with color and pulls crowds in, but the little beaches along the lagoon tend to remain quiet and calm. It’s great fun to kayak here and take part in other water sports on the calm lagoon water. Rent a beach cottage or just do a day visit; either way, remember the sunblock and beach umbrellas.

5. Sterkfontein Caves, Gauteng

Sterkfontein is a World Heritage Site, and the perfect spot for amateur archaeologists. One of the most important fossil sites in the world, the caves are an active excavation site and a fascinating place to tour. A short walk through the lush fynbos from each parking site will reveal clean white dunes and impossibly blue ocean.

You’re almost guaranteed to get stretches of the rolling dunes to yourself, and this is one of the best places to spot southern right whales in the bay from July to November.

Take a picnic and spend a lazy afternoon enjoying the warm sun and amazing scenery.

7. The Owl House, Eastern Cape Anyone interested in the strange and mysterious should not miss a visit to the masterpiece of a famous recluse, Helen Martin. The Owl House can be found in the Eastern Cape town of Nieu-Bethesda, and its enormous range of sculptures, multi-coloured glass interiors, and bright paint is the result of Martin’s desire to bring light and colour into her lonely world.

Divorced in the 1940s, with her parents dead and no family to speak of, Martin returned to her hometown and began a project that became an obsession. She began creating sculptures of owls, mythical beasts and sun faces with a labourer, Koos Malgas, and over 12 years transformed her home into a world of hundreds of sculptures, crushed glass walls, and coloured windows.

The Owl House has a mystical edge to it, if not entirely creepy, with its strange sculptures and a fascinating history.

To some, it may be incredibly inspiring – either way, it is a truly original place, and one not easily forgotten. Some say the ghost of Helen Martin still resides here; she committed suicide in 1976 by drinking caustic soda.
