ince its founding in 1990, East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry (EFBHNM) has been serving the basic human needs of families in our community in temporary financial crisis. Development Director Stacey Williams says, “We see at least one new family a day, and its often not who you would expect. So many in our community are affected by job loss, a change in family dynamics, and other unexpected life situations.” “We are not your typical food pantry,” continues Stacey. “In addition to the generous donations of individuals, churches and other groups, EFBHNM receives regular donations of meat, produce, bakery items, and milk from local grocery stores and gardens. Our enhanced supplemental orders have at least three to four days worth of groceries for three meals based on a household’s size. Families with children (ages 2-18) also received a ‘kid sack’ containing additional lunch and snack items for the weekends and after school. Laundry and dish detergent, vegetable oil, toilet paper, flour, and sugar are given throughout the year at various times.” During Thanksgiving and Christmas, EFBHNM distributes holiday baskets containing a full holiday meal. Stacey says, “We

also provide supplemental bags of groceries to help our families through the Christmas holidays.” EFBHNM participates in Houston Food Bank’s Backpack Buddy Program. The Financial Assistance Program provides help with mortgage or rent and utilities. EFBHNM’s resale shop, Tri-City Churches Resale Shop, has been voted “Best Bargain Shopping Store in Fort Bend” by Fort Bend Focus readers multiple times. One hundred percent of the resale shop proceeds go directly to support the EFBHNM programs. This year also marks the fifth year for the annual Outrun Hunger 5K Fun Run on September 24. In 2021, EFBHNM served over 9,000 families. The value of food distributed was

$1,842,832.39, and $165,516.22 was provided in financial assistance. This organization is dependent on volunteers. Stacey says, “Last year, volunteers contributed 22,995 hours. Please give us a call if you’re interested in volunteering. Monetary, food, and resale shop donations are always welcome as well.” Empty Bowls, EFBHNM’s largest fundraiser of the year, is coming up on June 10th. “Danny Ray & The Atlantic Street Band is returning for another fun evening out,” says Stacey. “Please join us to really see what EFBHNM is all about!”

Let Me Tell Your Story

T

by Amy Sharp

en years ago, I was at a playdate with the then-editor of Upclose Magazine (the publication you’re reading right now!). She was telling us other moms how the magazine could use another writer. For some reason, the words, “I could probably do that,” came out of my mouth. My before-kids career was in software. My only credentials were decent grades in high school and college English classes. Nevertheless, I was given five UpClose articles to write on a trial basis. Five stories about local, Fort Bend County businesses. In 10 years, the number of articles I’ve written is now easily pushing 1,000. Month in month out, I sit down with area small-business owners, and they tell me their story. We almost always laugh, and sometimes we cry. My job is to then tell that story to you, our readers. I can only hope the resulting articles reflect what I heard and felt in the interview. At times, our business owners trust me to contact one of their clients for an article. This is generally a short phone call, and in nearly every instance the individual can’t stop talking about their amazing experience with one of Fort Bend’s businesses. These “testimonial” articles are easy…the stories write themselves. I grew up in a small dot on the map called Nada, Texas. It’s located in

MEDICAL DETECTIVES She Takes a “Big Picture” Approach To Your Health by Amy Sharp

A

great detective doesn’t take a single clue and jump to a conclusion. She studies the puzzle until she understands the bigger picture. Dr. Julia Ward, founder of local Balanced Body Functional Medicine, says, “Unfortunately, the trend in traditional medicine isn’t great detective work. Often one clue (or symptom) is looked at, and then it’s patched with medication. There’s little investigation into the bigger picture of why a person feels the way they do.” Weight gain, fatigue, irritation, dull skin, hair loss, blood pressure fluctuation, and any number of other symptoms can be indicative clues to underlying health issues. Dr. Ward knows, she’s been there. “A few years ago, I was very fatigued and run down. Functional medical tests uncovered that my fatigue was in part due to an MTHFR genetic mutation...where I process B vitamins less efficiently. By treating this condition

and utilizing hormone replacement, I feel 100% better.” At Balanced Body Functional Medicine, Dr. Ward and Roxanne Camden, RN use a series of functional tests not typically administered in traditional medicine to get a better picture of a patient's “whole health.” Then they create a custom curriculum specifically for the patient. “These tests provide us with health clues and a deeper understanding of underlying causes…why patients aren’t feeling like themselves,” says Dr. Ward. “Many health complaints are rooted in hormonal imbalances, inflammatory diets, poor intestinal health, environmental toxicity, and lifestyle-related problems. Once we know the issues, we take a natural approach to everything, using herbal and natural remedies where we can.” Some of the more innovative treatments in Dr. Ward’s arsenal of options are bioidentical hormone replacement therapy,

ozone therapy, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. “Bio-identical hormones mimic the molecular structure in your body,” says Dr. Ward. “We always deliver the hormones estrogen and testosterone as either a pellet inserted under the skin or as a transdermal cream. Regular blood work ensures we’re on the right track to balancing your hormones.” Ozone therapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy both use pure oxygen to heal the body. “Oxygen is one of the most effective therapies available for a wide array of conditions,” explains Dr. Ward. “Oxygen and ozone (a form of oxygen) stimulate the immune system, reduce inflammation, and help our cells use oxygen with the most efficiency. It’s extremely safe!” It’s a vicious cycle. Make a diagnosis, prescribe a drug. Wouldn’t you like someone to look at the bigger picture…a “health detective” interested in knowing WHY you keep getting sick? That’s what functional medicine is all about. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Ward today!

ECN tutoring sessions are one-on-one and customized to meet each child’s educational needs.” Betsy’s bringing back the little red school house with a modern twist. “I want this new campus to be like a sanctuary for youth. Drinking and

by Amy Sharp

A Local Mom’s Perspective

S

hortly after halftime on Super Bowl Sunday, United States Representative Troy Nehls was involved in a motor vehicle crash on FM 359. His wife Jill was a passenger in the front seat, and his daughter, nine-year-old Tori, was in the back seat. It’s a moment Jill won’t soon forget. “I was looking down at my phone,” says Jill, “when Troy started saying, ‘Oh no. Oh no.’ Immediately after, I felt the impact. A vehicle had pulled out directly in front of us, and Troy had less than seconds to respond. He turned the wheel, and we clipped the front panel of the car at about 55mph. Tori was crying in the back seat. Troy made sure we were both ok and not seriously injured. Then in complete law enforcement mode (Troy is the former Fort Bend County Sheriff ), Troy went to check on the occupants of the other vehicle. The driver was still in the car, and the passenger was out. Troy could see open containers in the car.” The driver of the vehicle refused a sobriety test at the scene. She was arrested for driving under the influence and booked into the county jail later that evening. “We all seemed ok, and we didn’t want to scare Tori,” continues Jill. “So we refused medical care at the

scene. But I also knew my body didn’t feel good. My brother and Troy’s brother arrived, and took us to St. Michael’s Elite Hospital to get checked out. We always use St. Michael’s because we know we’ll be in good hands. The quality of care is extraordinary and professional, and there’s never a wait. Thankfully, we were all fine. Just sore.” Inside the emergency room at St. Michael’s Elite Hospital, Dr. Shannon Orsak and CEO/CNO Jessica Rivas have seen the damage done by drunk driving over and over again. “These tragedies are heartbreaking and senseless,” says Dr. Orsak. “In this particular instance, there were no fatalities or serious injuries…but that’s not always the case. Innocent families are often forever impacted by someone else’s decision to drink and drive.” “For me, the emotional part is the hardest,” explains Jill. “I can still smell the air bags and hear the impact. After the accident, Tori and I were waiting in the ditch. She was bawling and shaking in my arms. To this day, Tori still has anxiety about getting in a car. We remind her that God protected us. The bottom line is: The driver of that vehicle should not have been behind the wheel. If you are drinking, have a designated driver or use a ride sharing app like Uber. Let our story be your wake up call.”

After years of working in a variety of healthcare settings both academic and private, Dr. Likhari moved home. “One of the first things I did after opening my office was approach the pharmacists at local Campbell’s Compounding Pharmacy,” says Dr. Likhari. “We use compounding a lot in dermatology. It’s fun… it’s chemistry where we make a potion to address a patient’s individual needs. I commonly use compounded formulas to treat skin hyperpigmentation (melasma), rosacea, and resistant warts. The pharmacists at Campbell’s Compounding were very receptive. In the past, I’ve had to work with an out-of-town pharmacy to do my compounding, and then the medications were shipped to my patients. It enjoyed lots of drive by traffic, and many families had seen it on the tour. “I was trying to get it all staged for an Open House Memorial Day weekend,” explains Diana. “Sapana worked with me to prepare the Open House. She sent the broker invites, handled it all while I was out of town. That was a big weight off my shoulders. We listed it two days before the Open House, and had a contract beforehand with a 2nd buyer really interested. The offer came in at full list price. Sapana negotiated for higher. She’s very confident and aggressive. It’s what I like about her…she doesn’t give up. Things moved quickly, and Sapana kept us updated throughout the negotiating process. Ultimately, we sold at above list price. It was well worth hiring Sapana!” “In nearly every aspect, having Sapana sell the house for me was easier than doing it myself. Buyers seem less comfortable when the seller is the agent. Randy and I were very pleased with Sapana and the service she provided. She did a really great job.”

Your Lawyer For Life, Not Just Court by Amy Sharp

ominique Nwajei always knew she wanted to become an attorney. “Funny story,” says Dominique. “I was about to graduate from Clements High School when I attended an orientation at the University of Houston. It was organized by major, and I couldn’t find the line for law. They explained to me that you can’t get a Bachelor’s in law. I had no idea! I was a first-generation college student.” A call that same day changed Dominique’s fate. She was awarded a full scholarship to Prairie View A&M, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 3.5 years. Dominique earned her J.D. from Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 2012. “During law school, I worked as a criminal defense law clerk for two years. I realized that’s what I wanted to do…I wanted to be on the ground, hands-on, talking to people, and going to court.” Since 2013, Dominique has specialized in criminal law and family law, including divorce, custody, adoption, and CPS cases. “I’m passionate about it,” explains Dominique, “because I’ve dealt with it. ummer is the season of weddings. If you’re involved in the planning of one, you’ve no doubt made sure that every last detail is perfect. But what about the dancing? April Muller, co-owner of Arthur Murray Sugar Land with her husband Chris, says, “There’s a lot of options when it comes to taking the dancing up a notch at weddings. We can teach the bride and groom’s first dance, the mother/son dance, father/ daughter dance, and so much more. It’s two minutes of the night that everyone’s staring at you, why not do more than just the junior high sway? We can teach a few simple steps to get you by, or we can create elaborate choreography that makes you look like Dancing With The Stars. The possibilities are vast…a traditional waltz, a fun hip hop, and everything in between. I promise, whatever you decide, you’ll look natural and effortless.” Take the dancing to an even higher level by involving your bridal party. “We can bring the bridal party into the studio and teach a dance to use at the wedding,” explains April. “Chris and I have also attended rehearsal

ASK MARGIE The Lawyer Who Cares

Are You Over 18 Years of Age? by Amy Sharp

f you’re at least 18 years of age, it’s time to make sure your legal paperwork is in order. Fort Bend County attorney Margie Connolly says, “When someone dies or becomes incapacitated, it can become a legal, financial, and emotional mess. I can help you avoid that.” Think you’re too young? Think again. Margie says, “When a child turns 18, parents can no longer make decisions for them. If that child is involved in a car accident, it can become a legal hassle if the child is unable to make medical decisions. Medical and financial power of attorney paperwork is VERY important for anyone that is of legal age.” Many parents with young children don’t want to designate guardians. They’re afraid of asking someone to take on that responsibility. “Trust me,” continues Margie. “Asking an aunt, uncle, or friend to take on guardianship if the unthinkable happens is far easier than the legal, financial, and emotional roller coaster that could result if the need arises. Remember, guardianship

could become effective in other situations besides death. If both parents are involved in an accident and unable to parent, children may be placed with a guardian. If no guardian is named, Child Protective Services may get involved.” Margie graduated law school and passed the Kentucky bar exam 30 years ago. In 2013, she passed the Texas bar on her first try. Her Fort Bend County law office provides family law, estate planning, and probate services. “Things happen,” explains Margie. “And you should be scared if you’re not ready. My job is to make sure you’re in tip-top shape legally. We want no surprises if something happens in the future.” To learn more, Margie encourages you to visit her website at www.mmconnollylaw. com. “It’s a wealth of information, and I promise you’ll learn something. up,” says Jason. “I started seeing him when I was about 11 years old. Why have I stayed with him? Because no one I know likes going to their dentist…and I do! Dr. Lomonte is so easy to get along with; I’ve even played in his Optimist Club softball tournaments over the years.” “Dr. Lomonte does my regular cleanings, of course,” continues Jason. “I’ve also had a root canal, a crown, and he pulled my wisdom teeth. I’ve always felt very comfortable, in good hands. Dr. Lomonte knows what he’s doing, and his technology changes with the times.” Most recently, Dr. Lomonte fitted Jason for his second night guard. “I wear the guard at night for teeth grinding,” explains Jason. “My first one had broken, and I needed a new one. This time, Dr. Lomonte used his new digital scanner to fit my guard. It was so much better than the nasty goop that was once used to make a mold of my teeth (traditional impressions). It was easy, and the night guard fit perfectly right out of the gate!” The digital scanner Jason is referring to is the Itero Element Scanner. Dr. Lomonte says, “This is cool technology. We use the iTero Element Scanner wand to capture images of tooth surfaces and gum tissue. The patient and I can follow the scanning progress on the screen as the model is digitally built in real-time. And as Jason said, no more goopy impressions that make you gag.”

n this day and age, a home remodel demands a great design. Should the floors be waterproof? What’s the color scheme? How should the lighting illuminate the surfaces? Should they turn on automatically when the room is occupied? Can they be dimmed or timed?. “It’s overwhelming,” says Mohamed Naser, co-owner of local Lone Star Floors. “That’s why when we do remodeling work, we always start with a design consultation. Our designers help guide you through the selection of products and materials. We’ll put together something you’ll love.” Full bathroom, kitchen, and outdoor area remodels are all in the scope of what Lone Star Floors does, including flooring, lighting, countertops, paint, shower glass, and plumbing. Want to take your smart home to the next level? Mohamed says, “With the latest in lighting automation technology, we can brighten landscapes, outdoor and indoor living spaces with high-performance distributed AV, smart lighting, and LED lighting installations. Not only are they beautiful…energy-saving LED lighting installations can save you money.” No Texas outdoor living area would be complete without an outdoor grill from Lone Star Floors. “Here again, it’s all in the design,” explains Mohamed. “Gone are the days of a standalone pit on a concrete slab. We offer a wide range of outdoor grills and accessories to complete your outdoor cooking area. For ultimate convenience, we can add a sink and

fridge. We’ll help you choose the perfect materials, creating a vacation destination in your own backyard.” Founded more than 30 years ago by cousins Mohamed, Ziad Mukhaimer, and Imad Mansour, Lone Star Floors enjoys a long-standing reputation for “doing it right.” “Cutting corners during a remodel never pays off,” says Mohamed. “That’s why we’re by the book, every time.” Begin your 2022 remodel today by calling Lone Star Floors.

All-Vegan Restaurant That’s Close To Home by Amy Sharp

J

aime and Roozi Avokhani met while working at a Galleria-area luxury hotel. Jaime says, “In 2014, we made the decision to go vegan for the animals. After the transition, we felt that our best form of activism would be to open a 100% vegan restaurant.” In 2018, the couple started doing occasional pop-up events around Houston. “We did breweries and farmer’s markets, offering grab-n-go sandwiches, burgers, and pizzas.” The pop-ups were doing well, but the plan was always to launch a full-service, all-vegan restaurant. “In 2020, we were pregnant with our daughter Rosha and looking for a new place to set down roots. A friend suggested Sugar Land. It turned out to be the perfect spot to start our family and open our restaurant. Pythagoras is the only all-vegan restaurant in Sugar Land.” Pythagoras finally opened their doors in January of 2022, after a year-long renovation. The freeze that hit Houston in February

of 2021 severely set back the open date and impacted the work that had to be done. Jaime and Roozi expanded the kitchen and completely redid the bar in the process. What will you find at Pythagoras? “We like to put a vegan twist on the normal stuff people eat,” explains Jaime. “Roozi was born and raised in Iran. Growing up, his favorite dish was kabob koobideh. We knew we wanted to create a vegan version of this classic kabob. In addition to the kabobs, our pizzas are on the menu, as well as wings, gyros, and appetizers like fried cauliflower and fried mushrooms. We are growing the menu monthly. Burgers and tacos will be landing soon.” The 100% vegan fully stocked bar at Pythagoras is amazing. Jaime and her dad made the epoxy resin bartop themselves, and UFO pendant lights are a cool nod to Roozi’s alien obsession and the restaurant’s space theme. Happy Hour prices include $2 off cocktails, $1 off bottles, and $3 drafts.

Brought up in the hospitality industry, providing quality food, quality service, and a quality experience are all very important to Jaime and Roozi. “We care about you, the animals, and mother earth,” says Jaime. “Even if you’re not vegan, I encourage you to join us at Pythagoras on our conscious food journey. We hear the words, ‘This really isn’t meat?’ all the time. We can’t wait to introduce you to our food…one of us is always here!”

Shilpa Chandiwal, DDS was born and raised in India. She says, “I attended dental school in India and moved to the United States when I got married. A dental license from India does not transfer to the United States, so I needed to attend dental school here. I was admitted to the Ivy League schools, but I had no way to finance my dental education. I had no family in the United States. Through a friend, I met a couple that willingly cosigned my loan. They wanted to help me with my education. Because of their graciousness, I attended Columbia University in New York City.” At Columbia, Dr. Shilpa’s professors were pleased with her enthusiasm, work ethic, and knowledge. She graduated with honors and was awarded a pediatric residency at Columbia University. She continued her post-doctoral training at New York Presbyterian Hospital. “My husband and I decided to move to Houston for our first jobs and call it our home,” continues Dr. Shilpa. “The struggles continued. With the moral support of my husband, I decided to open my own practice. Starting a practice is a huge undertaking and a financial burden. I was nervous. I didn’t know if I would be successful and if the community would accept me.” The community responded positively. Dr. Shilpa opened Healthy Teeth Pediatric Dentistry in Sugar Land in 2012, and she opened the Katy location in 2015. Last year, the Sugar Land location relocated to a bigger office. She has added three doctors: Dr. Cindy Hurd, Dr. Chanica Veranunt, and Dr. Gail Joiner. “It’s all because of the love of this community,” says Dr. Shilpa. “I am a proud owner. orn and raised in Ohio, Wendy Wheatley worked in bars and restaurants through college. After deciding careers in teaching and then forensics just weren’t for her, Wendy was ready for a fresh start. “One day, I got in the car and drove down to Texas for vacation,” says Wendy. “I never went home.” Wendy ended up in Houston and landed a nanny gig in Richmond. When the kids in her charge didn’t need a nanny anymore, Wendy took jobs serving and bartending in the area. In 2018, she jumped on the opportunity to buy the bar on US 90A between Richmond and Sugar Land. Wendy renamed it The Oxbow Tavern. “I was working 90 hours a week,” says Wendy. “Doing the books and bartending. I slept in a chair here. The first COVID shut down was kind of a blessing. I got free advice from the Small Business Administration (SBA), which I definitely needed. I was about two weeks away from bankruptcy when I got to reopen in September of 2020. Then 2021 went better than I could have ever imagined. I credit my phenomenal staff. Many have been with me since the very beginning. They

are the backbone of this place.” Earlier this year, Wendy doubled the square footage of The Oxbow Tavern. “We took over the place next door…knocked down the wall and added two pool tables, three 82 inch TVs, shuffleboard, a dartboard area, and a small stage where we host DJs and karaoke on Friday and Saturday, and acoustic live music on Wednesday and Thursday. Tuesday night is BINGO night.” The Oxbow Tavern is open every day until 2am. This is your homey, neighborhood dive bar with a wide selection of very reasonably priced liquors, frozen drinks, and craft beers. Happy Hour runs 3pm–7pm Monday through Saturday, with specials every day and industry discounts on Sunday for bartenders, kitchen staff, servers, managers…anyone that works in a restaurant or bar. “Because I know how hard it is!” says Wendy. CINCO DE MAYO MEANS FIESTA TIME!

L

by Amy Sharp upe Garcia grew up in a family of 11. She’s been cooking for a large crowd for as long as she can remember! “The very first thing I remember cooking is mole,” says Lupe. For 22 years, Lupe cooked for a well-known Tex-Mex chain...a restaurant still benefiting from her authentic family recipes. She then spent another five years cooking for other restaurants. Nineteen years ago, Lupe took the plunge into business ownership with her husband Jaime. Lupita’s Mexican Restaurant was born. At Lupita’s Mexican Restaurant, you’ll find the same mole that Lupe learned to make fresh more than 45 years ago...served hot on the only mole enchiladas you’ll find in Sugar Land. The salsa is made from scratch every day using roasted tomatoes, and it’s served warm. Both the corn tortillas and flour tortillas are handmade. All ingredients are always fresh. Jaime says, “No one makes food as good as Lupe. She’s picky, and everything has to be just right!” Hear that? There’s no need to go inside the loop for the best Tex-Mex. It’s right here in our backyard! Even better? For the month of May, Lupe’s original margaritas are $4, and flavored margaritas, including strawberry, watermelon, mango, and raspberry, are just $4.95. May also brings lots of reasons to celebrate. “Join us for an all-day celebration on Cinco de Mayo,” says Jaime. “Graduations and Mother’s Day are also coming up. We can deliver fresh fajitas and margaritas to your parties. Give us a call to discuss all of your catering options. We’ll help you throw a really fun fiesta.” It’s been a rough couple of years for restaurants. Lupe and Jaime feel blessed to have survived it. “You, our community, have kept us going.” says Jaime. “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. We are still here because of you.”

“ SO FOR THE ENTIRE MONTH OF MAY, OUR WORLD-CLASS MARGARITAS ARE JUST $4.00.”

DENTAL Health: Pro Tips for Parents

Kick Off The Summer Surfing...Without Water

by Marie Page hen you’re a kid, you just can’t wait for summer. It’s time for pool parties and playdates, summer camp and sleepovers. How about a surfing trip? At Grand Parkway Pediatric Dental, Dr. Faisal M. Khan, DDS turns a trip to the dentist into a day at the beach. This office is a playground paradise for kids of all ages. There’s a movie theater to enjoy while you wait. Fish, octopus, turtles, and sharks— plus character favorites like Ariel and Sebastian, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, and Moana— colorfully adorn the walls. Kids lie on orange and white surfboard examination beds with games and TV screens to distract them for cleanings and procedures. Children that do well during treatment are rewarded with tokens for prizes. A father of three, Dr. Khan really “gets” the whole kid thing. He says, “Parents ask me all the time to give them dental advice. There’s one thing I always recommend: Start them young. That’s why the American Dental Association strongly urges parents to get ‘well baby checkups’ with a qualified pediatric dentist as early as six months but no later than a child’s first birthday. Besides checking for tooth decay, we can show you how to clean your child’s teeth properly and help you ward off bad habits such as thumbsucking. Most importantly, your child will be familiar with me and the office...not scared and timid when he or she comes in for a visit.” With a lazy, flexible schedule, summer is the perfect time to take the kids to the dentist. Dr. Khan has more than 20 examination surfboards and two additional doctors on staff: Dr. Aalia Farukhi and Dr Priyanshi Ritwik. Parents with multiple children can have them all go surfing (that’s code for getting their teeth cleaned!)

ixty-one-year-old John Dorman had chronic back pain for years. “The pain was about a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10,” explains John. “No matter what I did, I couldn’t get rid of it. My father-in-law had seen Dr. Steve Harris at Sugar Land Health Center back in 2017. Dr. Harris actually helped get him out of a wheelchair and back to walking more again. To be honest, I’ve never been really high on chiropractors. I’d seen five or six over the years without much luck. But given my father-in-law’s success, my wife talked me into scheduling a consultation at Sugar Land Health Center.” Dr. Harris opened Sugar Land Health Center in 1982. In the summer of 2019, he welcomed his son-in-law, Dr. Zack Brazzell, to the practice. Together, they offer a wide variety of chiropractic care modalities and associated therapies to help people with pain find relief and improve their overall health. Through his 40 plus years as a chiropractor, Dr. Harris has developed his own methods and treatments for every layer of the body to promote healing. “My x-rays revealed that some discs were compressed,” continues John. “Dr. Harris told me I was a perfect candidate for what he does. This was in October, and I decided I didn’t want to start anything before Christmas. In January, the pain was still there, and I couldn’t sleep. I had to do something about it.” John’s treatment plan included spinal decompression, adjustments, and laser therapy. “The results are pretty remarkable,” says John. “Now, most of the time, my pain is down at 0-1. I’m sleeping at night. I still know the pain is there, but it’s not constant like it used to be. It’s interesting too. When I arrive for treatment, the pain is 0-1. When I leave, it’s 2-3…Dr. Harris says that means we’re actually moving something. Soon after, I’m back to 0-1.” “I know there’s a stigma out there about chiropractors,” continues John. “I was one of the skeptics! But Drs. Harris and Brazzell have taken care of my problems. Last week, I canceled my appointment because I had a bad case of vertigo. When I told Dr. Harris this week why I

had missed, he called Dr. Brazzell in. He explained to me that Dr. Brazzell could better help with vertigo. This team aims to heal what ails you. I definitely recommend Sugar Land Health Center.”
