he great Charles Darwin once said, “It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive, but those who can best manage change.” Somewhere deep inside of all of us, we know that...and yet in big decisions or small, we continue to procrastinate. Even when it comes to saying goodbye to our clunky, energy-guzzling, inefficient air conditioner, we hang on until the bitter end. Here are some developments that may cause you to reconsider. Watch out world, here comes Trane CleanEffects. And it is really shaking things up! What makes it different from regular air filtration? “It actually works,” explains Brian Jackson of Jackson Air and Heat, Sugar Land’s oldest Trane dealer. “Trane CleanEffects is a patented whole-house air filtration system that cleans the air like never before. Harvard researchers and EH&E have concluded that Trane CleanEffects filters can remove up to 99% of particulates in the air, even influenza viruses such as influenza B, influenza C, and the avian influenzas or so-called ‘bird flu.’ If you suffer from seasonal allergies, Trane CleanEffects filters down to .1 micron, which is 700 times smaller than

a human hair, and that’s what reduces the triggers causing your respiratory attacks. Trane CleanEffects gets top marks in removing spores, mold, dust, dirt, pollen, and pet dander. It prevents these things from entering your air and therefore your lungs.”

“Another big incentive is our 0% financing, instant rebates plus generous Centerpoint rebates.” “But there are other reasons to make the switch, not just to Trane CleanEffects, but to a state-of-the-art Trane XV20i Variable Speed air conditioner. Trane CleanEffects works best with variable speed systems. Without sacrificing any of its impressive power, a Trane Variable Speed is whisper quiet—no more listening to your old system rattle on and off. They also have Enhanced Humidity Control, which is an important feature for our tropical climate. You feel the difference immediately. Walk into a Trane home, and there are no hot spots and no freezing cold ones. Another big incentive is our 0% financing, instant rebates plus generous Centerpoint rebates.” Jackson Air and Heat has been installing

and repairing air conditioners for over thirty years. Back in 1982, Brian’s dad Johnny Jackson built the company by providing the best product, the best customer service, and the fairest prices. “We could carry any brand we wanted,” explains Brian. “But my dad and I only wanted the best product for our customers. That’s why we are 100% Trane. No one is better at manufacturing air conditioners than they are. Trane even gives you the ability to zone your own home. If your kids like to sleep in warmer conditions, no problem. You control each room from your computer or smartphone.” Why wait? Cleaner, healthier air is only one phone call away. Jackson Air and Heat will make sure you’re breathing easy for years to come! Jackson Air and Heat, Inc. Sugar Land’s Oldest Independent Trane Dealer License #TACLB29585 281-240-1037

rowing up, Luisa Toribio had the benefit of not only being born to a woman with beautiful skin, she knew how to take care of it. It was her mother’s practiced approach to skin care that inspired Luisa to become a licensed esthetician. She says, “Skin care is my passion. I love it when I see the changes in my clients’ skin. It makes me happy to see them happy with the results and changes they are receiving.” “All my life I like to help people. I’m always learning about new products and procedures, getting new certifications that let me share the latest techniques with my clients.” Luisa has been an esthetician for twenty-five years, and while she loves what she does, years of standing had taken a toll on her legs. The veins in her legs were becoming more noticeable and it was painful to stand for long periods of time, making it uncomfortable while she was working. With the encouragement of her oldest daughter, Luisa began looking for a vein specialist she could trust. After consulting with two other doctors, Luisa finally met Dr. Ulises Baltazar, and that’s when she knew she found the doctor she was looking for. Dr. Ulises Baltazar is a highly-regarded vein specialist. He has extensive experience working with conditions resulting from issues of the circulatory system and is a leader in his field. Board-certified by the American Board of Surgery in Vascular Surgery, Dr. Baltazar is a member of Houston Methodist Cardiovascular Surgery Associates’ Sugar Land Vein Clinic—a practice dedicated exclusively to the treatment of venous insufficiency. It was important to Luisa to find a doctor who could speak Spanish. She had a heart attack three years ago, and she needed a doctor who could really hear her concerns and be able to explain the medical terms in a way that was easy for her to understand. She says, “Dr. Baltazar is very professional. I felt so comfortable visiting with him and his staff. It was an amazing experience. He explained everything to me. I’m so happy. I had very good results. My legs look better, and I don’t have a problem standing while I’m working. Dr. Baltazar helped me. He listened to me and reassured me that I could call any time if I needed anything. I am very happy with the results and I have recommended him to a couple of friends.” With Dr. Baltazar’s help, Luisa can keep doing what she loves.

ave you ever wondered how companies come out with new products? Think about it: How did they decide which detergent scent was most appealing? Why did they select one new flavor over the many possibilities? Creative Consumer Research (CCR) right here in Stafford has been helping companies make these types of decisions for more than 42 years. President Patricia Pratt says, “I’ve always found research fascinating. Why do people do what they do? Companies need this information—consumer perceptions and behaviors—when they are coming out with new products and services. That’s the research we provide. Through focus groups, phone interviews, product tests, and more, we gather

the opinions of people like you. We’ve had people come in just to smell laundry detergent and tell us which they like best. Others test effectiveness of products like diapers. We recently completed a big study for a new company on Highway 6. We tested all of their new products. The list is endless, and every job is unique and different. Our facility here in Stafford is equipped to test large products like cars, small products, and everything in between. We do taste tests, product demonstrations, mock jury trials for attorneys, and more. As a respondent, you’re never on the spot. We’re just asking your opinion. Your fresh thoughts and ideas provide honest insight to our clients. I love what I do because it’s something different every day. This is what the creative process is all about!” Across more than four decades of success, large and small clients from around the country www.upclosemagazine.com

and the globe have collaborated with CCR— including Gatorade, David Weekley Homes, Chick-Fil-A, McDonald’s Children’s Festival, Samsung, Landry’s, Kimberly-Clark and the Missouri City government. CCR enjoys an unprecedented reputation for both producing results and protecting your information. “We do lots of studies,” continues Patricia. “So we need lots of people. This opportunity is completely confidential. We store all of your information internally. We never sell names, and we will sign any non-disclosure agreement. We’ve never had anyone not enjoy the experience! This is fun, it’s flexible, there’s no commitment at all, and you’re always compensated for your time.” Who can participate? “Anyone and everyone 18 and older!” says Patricia. “The criteria for every study is different, so the more people in our database the better. If you fit the criteria for a study, we will contact you and see if you’re available. It’s that simple. If you would like to participate in research at CCR, visit our website at www.ccrsurveys.com and fill out the form.”

Quality Cleaning That’s Flexible

I

by Amy Sharp n the wake of Hurricane Harvey, Chris D. and his family realized just how unhappy they were with their house cleaning service. “They just went ghost,” says Chris. “I understand hardship in an event like that, but I received no feedback at all. I also felt we were being nickel and dimed. For example, it was free to change the sheets on one bed, but additional beds were extra. I found a post on our neighborhood Facebook page about cleaning service recommendations. The overwhelming response was to give Mahoney’s House Cleaning Services a try, so that’s what we did.” More than two years later, Chris’s family is very happy with Mahoney’s. “No nickel and diming, everything is included in the price,” says Chris. “We even get little surprises occasionally, like a cleaned fridge. When I inquired about cleaning the oven, they said no problem. They come to our house weekly on Mondays, and they are very flexible. Sunday evening they text with the time they will be here. If it doesn’t work with our schedule, they find something that does. If we’ve been on vacation and need to skip a week, that’s not an issue either. They’re always right on time, and this is quality work. Back when we lived in Dallas we had a large service that we were very happy with. This is the same quality cleaning. They are good people and really take care of your home. They’re also open to suggestions. I asked if I could pay with Apple Pay instead of leaving a check. The initial response was they would look into it, and within hours they confirmed it would work.” Mahoney’s House Cleaning Services is locally owned by Imelda Mahoney and her daughter Casandra. Bonded and insured with company cars and uniforms, Mahoney’s is available to take care of your home on the schedule of your choosing. Weekly, biweekly, monthly, or a one-time deep cleaning...whatever works for you and your family!

ince 1996, EinStein’s Pub has been a popular hangout in Katy. Locallyowned by brother/sister Kristin and Greg Megan and their mom Linda, today they’ve opened a new location (and new concept!) right here in Richmond: EinStein’s Pub & Arcade. “Greg is really into barcades,” says Kristin. “And that’s what this is—a 6000 sq. ft. familyfriendly barcade. We have pinball machines, classic arcade games, card games, board games, and tons of TVs...and we are adding new games monthly! Every Wednesday we host bingo and Thursday is trivia night. We are smoke-free (Smoking is ONLY permitted on the patio.). Our goal is to make sure there’s something for everyone. Kids are welcome every day until 7pm.” There’s entertainment for all and the table-service menu is just as appealing. Fan favorites include the Avocado Bites (fresh avocado lightly-breaded and golden-fried, served with jalapeno ranch), Taco Tip Fries (chicken or beef tips over crispy fries, smothered in queso, jalapeno ranch and

pico de gallo), and the 44 Farms ChickenFried Steak Sandwich (quality chicken-fried steak with crispy bacon and mashed potatoes piled together to make the most delicious sandwich ever!). The kids’ menu is filled with their favorites, including mac & cheese and chicken strips. Open seven days a week 11am till 2am, EinStein’s Pub & Arcade features daily specials and happy hour runs till 7pm. DJs, VJs or live music are added to the lineup on Saturdays. Kristin says, “Our website and Facebook page are the best places to keep up with everything we have going on!” There’s so much to discover at EinStein’s Pub & Arcade...but there’s one thing you won’t find: Pests! Food establishments must adhere to strict building codes and inspections. One requirement of all establishments is regular pest control/extermination. Kristin says, “We had bad luck with pest control companies for the first 15 years at our Katy location. Several companies told us they needed to come every

two weeks. We really felt like we were being taken advantage of. Then we found BUGCO, and we’ve been with them ever since. They take care of the pest control at our Katy location, the new Richmond location, and at my house too. They’re dependable, reliable and honest. They’ve been our go-to company for almost 10 years.” Locally-owned and operated by Chris Millward and John Onofrey, BUGCO provides treatment options for general pest control, roaches, termites, fire ants, bed bugs, fleas, ticks and rodents both commercially and residentially. John says, “Summer is practically here, and with summer comes the mosquitoes. Here at BUGCO, we have strategies for controlling them...including installation and maintenance of mosquito misting systems, In2Care mosquito traps, and truck and backpack fogging. Give us a call anytime or contact us through our website to learn more about how we can keep the pests away from you and your family!” EinStein’s Pub & Arcade 832-532-0331 16733 W Airport Blvd #290 Richmond, TX 77407 www.einsteinspubarcade.com

Every Smile Makes You A Day Younger by Olivia Cane ou can let your smile change people, but never let embarrassment change your smile! If you don’t feel like smiling because you’re self-conscious about crooked or misaligned teeth, teeth with gaps, crowded teeth, your underbite or overbite, take a moment to think of the beauty you’re depriving yourself and the world. A smile is the universal language of kindness. Don’t let feeling ashamed prevent you from being the best and most beautiful version of you. Dr. Thomas Lomonte, D.D.S., has devoted his life to smiles. Every day, he transforms a whole lot of smiles using Invisalign clear aligners. Few dentists know more about Invisalign than Dr. Lomonte, who really appreciates the health benefits of properly aligned teeth. “An uneven bite often leads to temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMJ,” explains Dr. Lomonte. “It causes strain on the muscles in the jaw, so that even talking or chewing become painful. Not only do Invisalign clear aligners correct that, they can make you feel great about Come in smiling again.” as a patient So, what are Invisalign clear aligners? “They’re clear aligners, which means they’re virtually invisible,” says Dr. Lomonte. “Since there are no and leave brackets or wires involved, you can still eat all your favorite foods, stay active in as a friend! sports, and do the things you normally love to do. For best results, it’s a good idea

to wear your aligners about 22 hours a day, taking them out to eat, drink, or brush your teeth, and then putting them back in again. Depending on the complexity of your case, you could complete your treatment in as little as six months.” Better still, Invisalign is approximately the same cost as regular braces. Dr. Lomonte is proud to offer 0% financing. “What my patients love about Invisalign is how easy it is to use. The aligners aren’t painful or inconvenient. And you never have to feel self-conscious about smiling because hardly anyone will know you’re using them.” “No matter who you are, the most beautiful thing about you is your smile. F CUS “Medicine Only Helps When Your Child Actually Takes It!”

P

arents know that children can present several challenges when it comes to taking their medications. Some children may resist taking a liquid medicine due its taste. Some have difficulty swallowing pills. And many children have a fear of injections. Also, many medications aren’t labeled for children. If a medicine isn’t approved for use in infants and children, it usually isn’t available in a suitable pediatric dosage form.

Campbells Compounding has a Custom Solution for Children’s Oral Medication We can help your child’s medicine go down with less resistance, by compounding oral medications into many pleasantly flavored forms in a rainbow of colors that makes it more fun for your child to take the medication. At Campbell’s Compounding Pharmacy, “We’re always looking for ways to help the families of Fort Bend feel their best!”

One of my first pediatric patients was a little girl in hospice with a tumor in her mouth. Bleeding unsettled her stomach and made it hard for her to keep down any food. I was able to compound a formula to stop the bleeding. Once she could eat and her pain subsided, she was more comfortable until the end. She was one of the first patients that I ever treated by coming up with a different solution…even though it broke my heart. I’ll never forget her. Finding creative, effective ways to help patients is why I’m a compounding pharmacist.

We Care

About the Quality of Your Air S by Amy Sharp

ince 1989, All Cool A/C & Heating has been serving the families of Fort Bend County and its surrounding areas. Owner and President Bryan Bellamy moved here more than 40 years ago. He raised his sons, James and Cody, right here. Bryan got his start in air-conditioning and electrical in the early ‘80s. As his passion grew, he transitioned to focus solely on air-conditioning, opening his own company in 1989. This past February, his company’s name changed from All Out A/C & Heating to All Cool A/C & Heating to better reflect the services they provide. “We’re still the same great people you’ve come to know over the years,” says Bryan. “And our business philosophy remains the same: honesty, dependability, respect, gratitude and a tremendous work ethic. The very same philosophy I instilled in my kids.” Carrying on the family tradition, in 2009 Cody became Bryan’s right-hand man. A 2014 graduate of Texas A&M University, as Vice President Cody handles many roles at All Cool including: comfort advising, quality control checks, customer relations and administrative duties.

“Every call we go out on, every job we do,” continues Bryan, “we treat you as neighbors... because you are our family and we care about you. With the growing concern of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in our country, we have looked into ways to help our customers promote good indoor air quality. Here at All Cool, we offer ultraviolet sanitizing systems that can be installed to help combat air pollutants, odors, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), allergens and bacterial growth. The Air Scrubber by Aerus with Active Pure Technology, created in cooperation by NASA to help provide clean air aboard the International Space Station, has not been tested against COVID-19, but has proven effective in removing similar viruses from the home such as the H1N1 (Swine Flu) and the Influenza Virus H5N8 (Avian-Bird Flu). The Air Scrubber purifies the air and reduces particles that can irritate allergies and asthma. It’s low maintenance, and there’s no cleaning required. Cody and I both have it installed in our own homes. I myself have horrible allergies, and man...this thing works!”

Cody and Bryan also remind us that summer will be here before we know it. “It’s important to get your AC checked now for the season,” says Bryan. “A tune up can keep your air conditioner from unexpectedly breaking down, ensuring you and your family remain comfortable when outside temperatures start to climb. Neglecting your cooling system now can lead to costly repairs down the road!” For more information on the Air Scrubber or to schedule your spring tune up, call 281-2389292 or visit www.allcoolac.com. ASK MARGIE The Lawyer Who Cares

might not be able to make decisions. I feel fortunate that it didn’t come to that for me, but I watched my own cousin suffer a stroke and then pass away. Her husband and son didn’t know her wishes, or where any of her papers were.” As they say, little things can make a big difference...and Rose took action. “Many of my family members did not have these documents in place, so I asked Margie if she would come to a BBQ at my house to answer questions from my children, aunts, uncles and cousins. To my amazement, Margie didn’t hesitate. Her response was, ‘Sure! What time do you want me there?’” For hours on a Saturday, Margie sat on Rose’s porch answering her family’s questions. “I was completely overwhelmed with her generosity,” says Rose. “She looked right at home and never seemed rushed. There’s just no way to describe how patient Margie was. She’s now our family attorney!” Rose is the founder of the Rose B. Johnson Foundation. The mission of the foundation is to inform, educate and communicate with individuals and groups about colon cancer and its prevention, procedures, and treatments. “I encourage you all to check if you need screening. Screening saves lives.” Visit www.rbjohnsonfoundation.org for more information. Margaret McCullough Connolly, PLLC

ose Johnson knows well the importance of estate planning. Back in 2002, she was diagnosed with Stage IV terminal colon cancer and given six months to a year to live. “I made up a will really quickly... handwritten,” says Rose. “I didn’t know whether I was going to live or die, but I wanted my wishes followed through in the event of the unthinkable.” Fortunately, Rose’s story didn’t end there. After many years and treatments—and two recurrences—Rose beat the odds. In April of 2009 she was declared cancer free. With cancer out of the way, Rose called on Fort Bend attorney Margie Connolly to help her with proper documentation. “As I learned, it’s so important to have a will, medical 281-433-9488 • 346-309-4236 directive, and power of attorney in place. hen Lynn Tran’s dad fell in the bathroom and hit his head on the bathtub, she took him to St. Micheal’s Elite Hospital. “We walked right in,” says Lynn. “No wait. Dr. James Ferguson ordered a CT scan of my dad’s head, and blood work to make sure he wasn’t dehydrated. Dr. Ferguson’s bedside manner is excellent. He explained everything efficiently and helped me understand what I needed to know. We got dad’s lab results back about an hour later.” Ultimately, everything checked out fine with Lynn’s father. “Thank goodness!” says Lynn. “This was a very good experience. Everyone at St. Michael’s is very efficient, caring, professional and courteous. They did exactly what needed to be

done quickly and efficiently. Dr. Ferguson even called me the next day to check on my father.” “The St. Michael’s facility is spotlessly clean and well-equipped with the necessary equipment and labs to handle emergencies like this and more,” continues Lynn. “The best thing is we don’t have to wait in the waiting room for hours like we do when we’ve gone to the large hospital ERs. I went back to St. Michael’s with my mother for IV fluids when she was severely dehydrated. I recommend St. Michael’s and would definitely take my parents there again if another emergency arises.” As Lynn learned, St. Michael’s Elite Hospital’s 24-hour emergency room guarantees wait times of 15 minutes or less in a comfortable and cozy

environment. With on-site radiology and lab departments, necessary tests and x-rays are done in a timely manner. St. Michael’s also recently expanded to include inpatient care. Today they have eight emergency room beds, two triage rooms, and seven inpatient beds. Co-founder Dr. Shannon Orsak says, “We take care of everyone that walks through these doors like family. Thank you Lynn for allowing us to provide the best of care to your parents.”

bout eight years ago, 58-year-old Birgitta Flynn started slowly gaining weight. “I was always fatigued,” says Birgitta. “And the weight slowly crept on. I wasn’t sure how, given I don’t overeat. But over the course of six to eight years, I had put on 20 pounds that I could not take off. Nothing I tried worked. One doctor even told me it was a normal part of aging. I knew that was not the answer!” Birgitta received a card in the mail informing her of a free seminar with physician and founder of Balanced Body Functional Medicine, Dr. Julia Ward. “I’ve always been interested in the holistic natural approach to medicine, and that’s what Dr. Ward does. Instead of masking symptoms with prescription drugs, she treats the root causes. That card really spoke to everything that was happening to me. I knew I needed to do this for myself.” “I attended Dr. Ward’s free seminar where I scheduled a consultation. At my consultation, I signed up for her three month program. Dr. Ward discovered through blood work and dietary antigen testing that I had food allergies. My program involved food eliminations, detox and supplements to repair my gut. What a difference this has made! Food allergies are more common than we know. I’ve had constant bloating and digestive issues since I was 16. Today, I no longer feel these pains. And with the food eliminations, my extra weight came off fast. What a godsend!” “Dr. Ward is also helping me with my thyroid issue as well as bio-identical hormone treatment. Before starting my program, I was too fatigued to exercise. I had not exercised in more than eight years. Two months into my program, I started Camp Gladiator on a modified program (I was also recovering from a broken foot). I feel so good!” “I do recommend Dr. Ward and her nutritionist, Karen Looney. This is a very friendly team. Questions are always welcomed and explained...they really understand what you’re going through. This is the best I’ve felt in 15 years!”

No Knee Surgery and No Antibiotics

by Amy Sharp assandra Keen is very allergic to antibiotics. “My knee was getting bad,” she says. “I was hobbling around and in heavy-duty pain. When the orthopedic told me I needed a knee replacement, I balked. I want no more surgeries than necessary with my antibiotic allergy. A friend in another state had an alternative treatment done that really helped her become active and ambulatory, so I started researching alternatives.” “I discovered Regenexx is the pioneer company in the United States using stem cells in the knee. What I like the most is they use your own stem cells, so you know exactly what you’re getting. Dr. Ugochi Azuike with Texas Interventional Orthopedics and Regenerative Medicine in Missouri City was the closest Regenexx FREE Seminar doctor to me, so I scheduled a Using Your Own consultation.” “Dr. Azuike is very dynamic Stem Cells to Help and we really clicked,” Heal Your Body continues Cassandra. “What really sold me is May 2, 2020 that she has personal experience....she’s had the 11:00am - 12:30pm procedure done on herself.” An MRI confirmed Texas Interventional Orthopedics that Cassandra’s knee was in pretty bad shape, and Dr. Azuike believed the stem cell procedure and Regenerative Medicine would help. “There’s a misconception that older people may not have enough stem cells. But age Learn more about Texas has nothing to do with it. I’m 70, and Dr. Azuike Interventional’s unique stem cell pulled more than one billion total nucleated cells and blood platelet procedures. from me.” Those stem cells, spun down from bone Everyone welcome! marrow drawn with a needle from Cassandra’s hip,

were injected the same day into her knee using image guidance. Ten weeks after her treatment, Cassandra often has no pain. When she does, she reports it’s 50% of what it was before. “I’m excited to see what my total benefit will be after one year. I’ve improved so much already. For me, this was the best way to go: no antibiotics and no surgery. I definitely recommend the Regenexx procedure and Dr. Azuike. enerations of satisfied customers can tell you that our local hometown plumbers make house calls...especially when there’s an emergency that requires their expertise. Imagine Jennifer Burkhalter’s surprise when she answered the phone at Alan’s Plumbing and talked to a distraught woman who said her usual plumber couldn’t make it last minute because he lived in The Woodlands. “You should always use service professionals who live in your neighborhood,” says Jennifer. “It’s the kind of common sense that’s easy to forget. But when there’s a leak or flooding, it has to be fixed immediately. It’s the same thing as calling an ambulance for a medical emergency. You want one that’s right around the corner, not one across town.” Jennifer’s husband and Alan’s Plumbing owner Alan Burkhalter, her brother-in-law Chris, and son Luke are all master plumbers. Luke’s brother Beau is journeymanlicensed and studying for his master plumber license, and his brother Jake (recently engaged to Becca Long!) is an apprentice close to his journeyman license. Luke’s wife Chelsea and Katie Johnson join Jennifer in answering the Alan’s Plumbing phones. The addition of journeymanlicensed plumber Jeff Johnson and apprentices Jaime, Trevor and Christian make this the best-trained team to tackle emergencies and non-emergencies alike in our neighborhood. They are fully licensed to do plumbing inspections, leak detection, water lines, gas lines, sewer lines and garbage disposals. If you need a water heater to be properly installed, look no further. “A leaky toilet can waste up to two hundred gallons of water a day,” explains Alan. “That’s about $70 a month. A leaky faucet can run you anywhere from $20 to $200 a year. These are not things anyone can afford to put off.” Having a fantastic local plumber has less obvious benefits too. “We’re your neighbors,” says Alan. “My sons all graduated from Elkins High School. We care about this community and all the people who live in it. This bond holds us accountable to you, your family’s health and happiness, and all the things that make our Fort Bend County area one of the best places to live. That means we feel obligated to give you the best service at the fairest prices. That means we are responsive to your needs and questions. That means we continue to give Fort Bend residents the kind of service that a neighbor deserves.” No one knows this better than Alan’s kids. Beau says, “My favorite part of the job is hearing stories that customers share with me about the services performed by my dad or my Uncle Chris.” “Hearing the stories makes me grateful to carry on the legacy of the family business,” adds Luke. Don’t get caught with a plumbing emergency that your out-of-town plumber can’t handle. Call Alan’s Plumbing and know that your plumbing problem will be handled with courtesy, professionalism and respect.

ifty-six-year-old Lydia was finding it harder and harder to lose weight. “I would diet and exercise and maybe lose a little,” she says. “But even then, I never lost it from my belly. That made it harder and harder to work out.” Lydia read in UpClose magazine about “Ultimate Look” at Ultimate Beauty Skin Rejuvenation & Body Contouring. “I called to learn more. The owner Joslyn Johnson told me I could come in that day for a consultation. She told me if I was comfortable after the consultation, we could even do a treatment that day for immediate results. I explained to her my hesitation: I’m uncomfortable with people seeing my body. I’m overweight and out of shape. Joslyn was very professional and assured me that they’ve seen it all and not to worry about it.” Joslyn is a retired Houston Police Lieutenant who became interested in “Ultimate Look” after experiencing immediate results on her own body. She says, “The signature treatment, ‘Ultimate Look,’ is a three-step state-of-theart radio frequency, cellulite and fat reduction system. The three steps consist of targeted fat and cellulite loss with ‘Lipo Sculpt Lite,’ ‘Ultrasonic Cavitation,’ and skin tightening with ‘Therma-Lift.’ It’s perfect for stubborn bellies like Lydia’s. All procedures are non-invasive and absolutely pain free, with zero down time.” 20 ~ UPCLOSE ~ April 2020

Lydia did go in that same day and do her first treatment. She experienced immediate results, and then signed up for a package of ten treatments. Lydia reports that she often falls asleep during “Lipo Sculpt Lite.” “Ultrasonic Cavitation” feels like a massage. During these steps and the skin tightening, she feels no pain at all. The entire process takes less than 1.5 hours. And results? After eight treatments, Lydia is down 20 pounds and three dress sizes! “This program does require drinking lots of water and cardio after treatment. My experience is that the immediate results are extremely motivating to do even more. I actually want to work out, and that makes me want to eat better. I absolutely recommend Ultimate Beauty Skin Rejuvenation & Body Contouring.” Ultimate Beauty Skin Rejuvenation & Body Contouring 832-886-0700 Located in Tuscany Village Salons 4807 Highway 6 #17 Missouri City TX, 77459 Ultimatebeautysr@gmail.com www.ultimatebeautyskinandbody.com

hen Katie Elofson was ready to get rid of the carpet in her house, she stopped into local Lone Star Floors. “We drive by the showroom all the time,” says Katie. “They’ve been here forever! We got several other quotes, but Mohamed Naser at Lone Star Floors gave us the best deal, including the install with labor and materials. Lone Star Floors also guarantees their work...many others did not.” Katie’s “remove-the-carpet” project included installing vinyl flooring on the entire second level, and tile that looks like wood in the master bedroom. “I was surprised at how fast they got things done,” continues Katie. “The crew asked to store their tools in the garage, which we agreed to. I was in and out during the day, and the kids were at school. Every evening before leaving, the crew tidied up and moved everything to the garage. Time just flew by! The entire 2nd floor was done in just two days. The bedroom took a bit longer, but that was partly an error on my part.” Lone Star Floors is locally-owned and operated by Mohamed and his cousins Ziad Mukhaimer and Imad Mansour. As Katie learned, when you install with Lone Star Floors the work is

guaranteed. Mohamed says, “We always install according to the manufacturer’s instructions. There’s no cutting corners, no shortchanging on materials, and job preparation is done correctly. Everything by the book. And should you have a problem, give us a call and we handle it immediately. Ziad and Imad have both worked as installers, they understand both sides of the fence.” While Lone Star Floors opened nearly 25 years ago as a flooring store, today they’ve grown to include full kitchen, bathroom and home remodeling— including plumbing, shower glass, painting and granite. “We love our new floors,” says Katie. “They look great and feel great. I’m so happy to be done with carpet! We will be using Lone Star Floors again next year to replace the rest of our flooring. I definitely recommend Lone Star Floors. They are very competitive!”

Resident #1

ighty-seven-year-old Maryle Breaux had a tough few years. She survived a split aorta, stroke, three seizures, a lung collapse and a stay in rehab. Her Houston-area home flooded in the Memorial Day flood of 2015, and then again in Hurricane Harvey. After Harvey, Maryle was doing two week stints at her children’s homes. “Mom moving in is the perfect way to break up a marriage!” says Maryle. “So I looked online for a place to live and found Inspired Living at Sugar Land. It wasn’t yet open, but I made my daughter bring me here because I knew there would be a sales office. We learned I could be #9 on the list, and we put a check down that day.” When Inspired Living Executive Director Mario Gutierrez learned of Maryle’s plight, he offered her a place to stay at a sister location. She declined that offer, so Mario moved Maryle to the top of the list. On Maryle’s birthday, December 27, 2017, she got the call that the facility was ready. Maryle moved in as Resident #1. More than two years later, Maryle is happy with her home. “This is a safe place,” says Maryle, “with lots of programs. I enjoy Bible Study, walking, and doing puzzles. I also enjoy identifying birds and fish at the nature pond. I’m free to go out anytime. I could attend church services here, but I have my family pick me up on Sundays and take me. Housekeeping cleans my private apartment, my trash is picked up, and my laundry is done for me (except I choose to do my own delicates!). In the dining room, the chefs accomodate me...making meals that fit my many allergies. I also have a microwave in my apartment. The entire staff is extremely friendly and attentive. ain is frequently an indicator that there is a pre-existing problem or injury. At Sugar Land Health Center they look at the cause of the pain and offer treatments that promote long-term health. They offer natural treatments which address the problem area and all the areas affected by the injury. Sugar Land Health Center provides chiropractic treatment for people of all ages. Dr. Steve Harris opened his center in 1982 and last April he welcomed his son-in-law, Dr. Zack Brazzell, to the practice. Since coming on board, Dr. Brazzell has exhibited a gift for working with sports injuries. Dr. Harris has 40 plus years of experience as a chiropractor, he has developed his own methods and treatments for every layer of the body to promote healing. Together, they use a safe and holistic approach to offering a wide variety of chiropractic care modalities and associated therapies to help people with chronic pain and/or help improve their overall musculoskeletal function and health. The team at Sugar Land Health Center has developed a reputation for combining traditional chiropractic treatments with cutting-edge technology and products that have been carefully vetted. Recently, Ann Byers benefited from Pressure Wave Therapy, a new treatment that expedites healing by using high-energy sound waves that accelerate the healing process. Ann says, “I appreciate that Drs. Harris and Brazzell really listened to me and worked with me to create a plan that could minimize my pain, get rid of the swelling and help me be comfortable…” Another new product and office favorite is a Barley Maxx. An excellent source of vitamin K and chromium that is known for helping increase energy, and supporting a healthy immune system, Sophie Brazzell experienced another benefit from Barley Maxx. She says, “We traveled to Tennessee over Christmas, and every year I’m plagued with terrible allergies with asthmatic effects which makes it hard to sleep at night. I drank Barley Maxx right before bed and within minutes I could feel my symptoms going away. The whole trip I was able to sleep with clear sinuses!” Speaking of new things, Sugar Land Health Center is also expanding their hours to meet the needs of our community. Not only will the office open earlier, 8:00 am during the week; they are extending their hours until 6:00 pm Monday through Thursday and will also be seeing patients on Saturday mornings. The mission of Sugar Land Health Center has

always been to help people find natural healing and pain relief. Their gentle and effective methods promote relief from pain and help build the immune system. And now you can access their services at hours convenient to you and your family.
