T

he semester has finally come to a close, and 2017 is almost at an end.

Most of the students have already

Wonderland even having prepared a cloudy and fairy-lit exhibit in the EEE lobby to match the wonderful theme.

In commemoration of its 23rd Anniversary last February, the organization prepared for and held different events each day, having the celebration last for a full week. Circuit brought its members Surreal— pushing the boundaries for creativity, imagination, and questioning the perception of reality, like straight out of the fairy tale Alice In

Engineering Week 2017 brought about the hype and thirst for competition. With the different engineering organizations gathering yet again, Circuiteers wasted no time and efforts in preparing for the different events.

They were able to take their minds off of academics for a while and showcase their talents in the different events of sports and the performing arts, bringing pride to the organization’s name. The organization maintained to be a force to be reckoned with early in the competition— a formidable competitor that certainly had its rivals on their toes with their display of heart. The Smoker Team won 3rd place, having brought us Ang Probinsyano: Oplan Tokhang Edition making the college laugh out loud with their shade, acting, and storyline of the status Philippine Society today with the war on drugs. It bagged its 2nd Championship in Indakan: Karayapan having wowed the audience with a spectacular performance and music set of Brownman Revival. Things didn’t go

accomplished and submitted their final course requirements filled with high hopes knowing that they’ve given their best, while the unfortunate few are still at a crawl, merely inches away from the finish line. UP Circuit is in store for another year of reviews, partnerships, Wardrobe Wednesdays, Current Issues, IGPs, selling of merchandise, publicity workshops, and events. As the Christmas Season has already settled in and as it is only a matter of days until a new year arrives, before all is said and done, let us take a quick look back on what has transpired this 2017 for UP Circuit.

too well on the last few days of the competition; still, when all had been said and done, through the events where dedication and organization spirit were tested, the organization never failed to come through, deliver, and have fun as a family.

The fun didn’t stop during the midyear term. The OlympiCKTs JJ (June and July) Games have been a tradition of UP Circuit in order to maintain camaraderie and connection of the members among each other as well as form new ones. Different parlor and relay games were prepared by our very own Internals while everything was still on the low, and most of the work and preparations for the incoming semester were accomplished in the comfort of the members’ homes.

Another one of the many side events Circuit holds, and still present this year is AKBAY. The organization keeps its mission to provide a service of spreading and promoting

knowledge of our field to neighboring high schools and introduce them to our practice. This year, the participants were taught about the C programming language and it is proposed to start including basic circuit theory and construction on the next installment of AKBAY. The E-Waste Project, now in its 6th year continues to grow in coverage, reach, and capability as what started out as an event of UP Circuit to hopefully a Non-Government Organization in itself, seeking partners from all over the country. Its goal of promoting proper E-Waste disposal becomes more relevant as time passes in line with the progress and development of the technology of today.

Some others are InteraCKT and PalEEEtan; both had unexpected outcomes compared

to what Circuit usually experiences based on the years prior. The shift in the academic calendar and the curriculum took a toll on the turnout of the InteraCKT’s participants. Despite this slight hiccup, the core team was able to deliver well enough to ensure that everyone had the full InteraCKT experience.

PalEEEtan on the other hand had faced obstacles from the very start, particularly during preparations.

This year’s campus exchange had been cancelled due to the disapproval of the administration of De La Salle University. Manpower fell a little too short in the early morning given the scheduled exams taking place on the same day of the event.

Rainfall started with a light drizzle, and worsened into a heavy downpour, sacrificing the viability of the scheduled Amazing Race. In lieu with this, parlor games and fun-filled activities continued on within the indoor venue originally meant to be only for the first part of the event. The heads of the event were still able to manage and have a hyped crowd filled with students from different universities. They even had time to livetweet and share their posts of the ongoing event on their

Facebook and Twitter accounts. The PalEEEtan experience surely gave everyone the good vibes, times, and company which is why every year, a lot of students from different universities always look forward to joining UP Circuit in this adventure. Coming out strong with the members’ dedication, steady and well-thought-of preparations, and the well-handled events, InteraCKT and PalEEEtan surely did not fail to deliver and make a mark early in the semester.

As the year progressed, the organization continued to grow as the applicants from batches 16A and 16B transitioned into resident members. For the first semester of the academic year, UP Circuit has once again opened its doors to a new batch of applicants, 17A, with their Talent’s Night to be held next year, after the Final Interviews instead of before like in the previous application batches. This batch also might have just set the record for having the fewest applicants our organizations has had in a very long time with only 6 applicants to have taken the Final Interview. Despite the sudden drop in numbers, UP Circuit still made sure that this is not of great consequence, knowing that a true and devoted heart’s passion is worth more than what others suspect and is still capable of great feats.

This year also brought around the organization’s flagship event— now in its 21st installment, SquEEEze: Flux. With SquEEEze scheduled to happen in a span of three days, it made Circuit all the more excited and For months, starting as early as August, the core team has been carefully planning the theme, distribution of worload, and possible venues for the event. The Externals Committee had begun making calls and sending invitations to the different high schools and universities, extending their reach as far as possible. Publicity took on a new look, emphasizing the colors EEE uses to represent the institute. The procurement team took a trip to the Divisoria where souvenirs were collected, prepared, and silkscreened. Funding for the event was handled with the early selling of different merchandise like the usual shirts and food; moreover, proposals were finalized and sent

to be able to have potential sponsors.

The executive board took the necessary measures of carefully laying out the plans and simulation to its members during the General Assembly for SquEEEze. Each division became transparent with their progress reports of their preparations.

The heads of SquEEEze had gathered the night before the awaited event to manage and assist their subheads in building and completing the logo, having successfully

managed to design functioning lamps to bring out the colors of SquEEEze. The first day of the event ran smoothly, with the members running into minor problems.

The event had fortunately ended at an earlier time despite the sudden shift in the finals round schedule. The organization proves that the only way to go with this event is bigger, better,

than with SquEEEze Flux and there is no better way to wrap up this year than with a Circuit Christmas ParCKTy and After ParCKTy. Members from different batches were invited to celebrate at Jollibee for a simple get together with food, company, gifts, and the simple cherishing of the Christmas Spirit.

Its unending dedication to deliver in its projects and events is the defining characteristic of this organization, and will continue to prosper and grow in the years to come.

SQUEEEZE FLUX After months of preparation, and finally the time has come for t h e o r g a n i z a t i o n ’s a n n u a l f l a g s h i p e v e n t , S q u E E E z e . N o w t h a t SquEEEze was stretched to three days, nervousness and anxiety were inevitable for the heads as well as the members. Days before the event, members worked at full force as they wrapped up necessary preparations and polished last minute changes for SquEEEze Flux. The awaited moment was amidst and members w e r e s t i l l i n a s t a t e o f p a n i c . H o w e v e r, d u r i n g t h e e v e n t i t s e l f , h a n d l i n g t h e p r o g r a m b e c a m e m u c h s m o o t h e r. W i t h 2 0 t e a m s participating in High School, and 21 teams participating for College, SquEEEze Flux has finally come to life.

Due to the limited time provided, members from different committees all took part in conducting the checking session.

Discussion stirred among members as they carefully checked the papers, making sure that answers were indeed correct, or if some may be considered. After all the checking, the top 10 teams were then decided to face off in the Final Round.

Competition was tight between the teams that faced off in the Final Round, with each team catching up to the scores of the o t h e r s . E v e n a t t h e l a s t m i n u t e , t h e re s u l t s o f t h e I n t e r- H i g h Q u i z Bee was still unpredictable. But as in any other competition, one team had to be the Champion. SquEEEze Flux: College Day 1 was conducted at the second d a y.

The first half of the event consisted of sponsor talks from partner companies, namely Motolite, ADI, and Artesyn.

A D I ’s talk was entitled “Exploring the Hardware of Machine Learning”, while Artesyn on the other hand presented on the Introduction to Electromagnetic Compatibility of Power Supplies.

These talks became an avenue for the participating students to learn more and explore the different fields of EEE. The competition started on the second half of the d a y, as the Elimination Round and the Circuit Sprint occured.

In the Elimination Round for SquEEEze Flux: College, the top 20 teams who scored the highest were chosen to

participate in the Semi-Final Round.

Competition heated up in the Circuit Sprint as the participating teams raced to finish the given circuits. For the first time in the history of Circuit Sprint, the circuits were completed. Not only one team was able to successfully finish, but two.

T e c h n o l o g i c a l Institute of the P h i l i p p i n e s - Te a m A and De La Salle U n i v e r s i t y - Te a m B were both able to complete the given circuits, winning 1st Place and 2nd P l a c e r e s p e c t i v e l y.

De La Salle U n i v e r s i t y - Te a m A got 3rd Place, and was very close to finishing the given circuits.

SquEEEze Flux: College Day 2 was held on the last day of the event.

I could no think of a better word than proud to summarize my experience as a SquEEEze A c a d e m i c s H e a d t h i s y e a r. T h i s was the year that the SquEEEze Engine was completely overhauled. Much praise goes to the previous head, Boss Fred, for providing the necessary templates.

But even more praise goes to my team for its successful implementation.

In the Semi-Final Round, teams fought hard to gain a spot at the Final Round.

From 20 teams, they were down to top 5 teams that were to compete in the Final R o u n d o f t h e Q u i z S h o w. C o m p e t i t i o n was close among the teams battling for the championship. At the end of the Quiz S h o w , Te c h n o l o g i c a l U n i v e r s i t y o f t h e P h i l i p p i n e s - M a n i l a Te a m B b a g g e d 1 s t place, with only a 4-point lead. University o f B a t a n g a s - Te a m C w o n 2 n d P l a c e , w h i l e D e L a S a l l e U n i v e r s i t y - Te a m B came in 3rd. The Company Mixer was one of the hardest events to be handled by the heads and by the members. It was the first time to execute this event, and was crucial especially to the partner companies that the heads have invited. Despite the restlessness of heads, the panic, and the stress of the members, the event went well.

Aside from the participating students, the s p e a k e r s i n v i t e d a l s o s e e m e d t o e n j o y.

They were able to introduce their own companies and share their experiences as professionals in their field of work.

O v e r - a l l , t h i s y e a r ’s S q u E E E z e F l u x w a s a success. Although still far from being perfect, a lot of improvements were done, and the entire event stepped up to a new level. Indeed, the efforts, the tears, the sweat, and the heart poured in this event by the members were all worth it.

My 5th year to witness SquEEEze as an event and my 3rd year to have a headship for this e v e n t , b u t e a c h y e a r, S q u E E E z e n e v e r f a i l s to amaze me. How it brings the talent of all members and participants to make this event a success. Sobrang amazing ng lahat ng tao tuwing SquEEEze, kasi may mga naipapakita na “shet kaya pala to” Special mention to p u b !
