CRIMSON Laureate Society

CRIMSON Laureate Society

Science and math drive technological and social progress, improve lives, and enable us to face the global challenges affecting today’s world. Much of this work begins right here at the College of Science, where researchers drive transformative discoveries in drug development, clean energy, data science, climate change, and astronomy, while training future scientists, doctors, business leaders, and more. In March, we launched the Crimson Laureate Society, a group dedicated to advancing science and math at the University of Utah. We now have over 660 members, making the contributions that drive outreach, education, and research in your College while gaining exclusive, member-only benefits like VIP event invitations. The holiday season provides an opportunity both to reflect on accomplishments like these, and to look forward to ways of making 2018 even more impactful for science and our students. That’s why I am asking you to join your fellow alumni and science supporters by establishing your Crimson Laureate Society membership. Sincerely,

Henry S. White Dean, College of Science, and Distinguished Professor of Chemistry

CRIMSON Laureate Society In the Department of Physics & Astronomy, we study the physical world, from fundamental particles to superclusters of galaxies. We also teach more than 2,500 students each semester, and present live physics demonstrations and lectures to tens of thousands of Utahns each year. These remarkable accomplishments would simply not be possible without your support. Your passion for physics and astronomy drives the Department forward, creating the conditions for transformative research discoveries and educational experiences. The Crimson Laureate Society, founded in May of this year, gives new meaning to these efforts. This society of science and math supporters, the first of its kind at the University of Utah, is a pivotal force that will drive physics and astronomy forward in 2018 and beyond. In the new year, we aim to expand our outreach efforts to reach at least 100,000 individuals. We want to offer more scholarships to current students, awarding excellence and easing the cost of college attendance. And we have plans to create a new opportunity for students to mentor one another: the Undergraduate Learning Assistant program. With your gift of $100—or more—to one of these projects, you’ll not only join the Crimson Laureate Society: you’ll join forces with hundreds of peers, working together to bring transformative change to the Department of Physics & Astronomy. Thank you, and best wishes this holiday season. Sincerely,

Benjamin C. Bromley Chair, Department of Physics & Astronomy

YES! I will join the Crimson Laureate Society and pledge my support for this fund: ☐ UNDERGRADUATE LEARNING ASSISTANT PROGRAM (SC03360-40165) This innovative program will let undergraduates serve as peer mentors in large physics lecture classes, giving students new ways to learn from and teach one another. ☐ SCIENCE OUTREACH AND DEMONSTRATIONS (SC22782-40167) By reaching out to our community, we create opportunities for education and science engagement throughout Utah. ☐ YOUR PASSION

☐ STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS (SC03366-40165) Scholarships improve students’ access to a physics education while recognizing their great academic potential. ☐ P & A DEVELOPMENT (SC03360-40165) Gifts made to the Department of Physics & Astronomy support the areas of greatest need in education, research, and outreach.
