CRIMSON Laureate Society

Science and math drive technological and social progress, improve lives, and enable us to face the global challenges affecting today’s world. Much of this work begins right here at the College of Science, where researchers drive transformative discoveries in drug development, clean energy, data science, climate change, and astronomy, while training future scientists, doctors, business leaders, and more. In March, we launched the Crimson Laureate Society, a group dedicated to advancing science and math at the University of Utah. We now have over 660 members, making the contributions that drive outreach, education, and research in your College while gaining exclusive, member-only benefits like VIP event invitations. The holiday season provides an opportunity both to reflect on accomplishments like these, and to look forward to ways of making 2018 even more impactful for science and our students. That’s why I am asking you to join your fellow alumni and science supporters by establishing your Crimson Laureate Society membership. Sincerely,

Henry S. White Dean, College of Science, and Distinguished Professor of Chemistry

CRIMSON Laureate Society As the holiday season approaches, we are full of gratitude to those who have shared our vision. Your efforts toward enhancing the experiences and opportunities of all those who spend their time with us here in the Department of Chemistry are much appreciated. Whether as teachers, students, collaborators or donors, each and every one is a necessary component to our department, and we are grateful to you for your role in making possible this year’s successes. Thanks to the donations we have received from our exceptional friends this past year, we have been able to provide support and resources to our numerous faculty, student-oriented and research endeavors, as well as provide an effective venue for valuable and collaborative work. For many years, the Department of Chemistry has led the way for high standards of excellence in research and education. Our department also has the largest Ph.D. program on campus, and we currently train more undergraduate minors than any other department. We enroll thousands of students across campus, teaching the chemical principles that are critical to so many careers and educational paths. As we look to the new year, we are excited to continue our legacy. New programs underway will advance the frontiers of chemistry toward innovative materials for energy conversion and storage, new reactions to prepare advanced products, and a deeper understanding of molecular processes important in energy, in medicine, and in our world. As a member of the Crimson Laureate Society, you can help us tackle these grand challenges! Sincerely,

Cynthia J. Burrows Chair, Department of Chemistry

YES! I will join the Crimson Laureate Society and pledge my support for this fund: ☐ UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS (SC04635-40165) Scholarships enable us to offset tuition costs, reward high-achieving students, and improve students’ quality of education. ☐ GRADUATE STUDENT COMMONS ROOM (SC03291-40168) Renovating and furnishing a common space for firstyear graduate students and beyond will strengthen the community of chemists at the U. ☐ YOUR PASSION

☐ GARY E. KECK ENDOWED GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP (SC25171-40165) The Keck Fellowship, in honor of Distinguished Professor Gary Keck, will provide financial support to one graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. in Chemistry each year. ☐ CURIE CLUB (SC22551-40165) The Curie Club provides travel awards, workshops, regular community events, and networking opportunities to support women in science.
